I’m wondering if the Mets have the chance to make it to the Wild Card this year.
I think the Mets could win the division. They've played 2, 4 and 2 games fewer than Washington, Atlanta and Philadelphia, respectively. They've got a 5 game lead over the second place Nats at the moment (although that will likely shrink to 4 as the Mets look like they're going to lose to the Phils while the Nats look like they'll beat Miami today as of writing.)

They've done this with Francisco Lindor hitting well below his normal production, but he's been coming on a bit recently. Jeff McNeil has also been producing well below what's typical for him, while also missing significant time this year. The pitching has been really good for them even with David Peterson (who has looked a lot better in his last three starts, the first two coming against the Cubs and Nationals) being a weak spot in the rotation so far, and not having Noah Syndergaard or Carlos Carrasco even throw a single pitch.

If they can remain relatively healthy (especially deGrom who has been nothing short of scary this year) and see Lindor and McNeil return to hitting like they should be, a division title isn't crazy to think about. Assuming they don't suffer a massive collapse between now and the end of July they'll probably add to the team, too. The next month will be really telling as they've got a bunch of games against Atlanta, a series against the Yankees and a series against Toronto. They do, however go into the All-Star break against Pittsburgh, and then also come out of the break with a series against them which should lead to some easy wins.

tl;dr - I think they can with the AL East which looks like it's easier to win than a Wild Card spot considering how good the records are for the Giants, Dodgers, Padres, and whichever team doesn't with the Central between the Brewers and Cubs.

Uni-Watch went into an autistic fit of rage about them, too. (To be fair, they are hideous.)

They're nearly as bad as the futuristic jerseys from the 90s.

But fuck that guy. I'm a total autist about unis and logos too but his whole crusade against Chief Wahoo was one of the gayest and most obnoxious things I've ever seen.

The 2021 All Star Game jerseys have been revealed and they're absolutely hideous.

The uniforms will also be worn in the All Star Game itself instead of the Home Run Derby.
Why does the Blue Jays jersey have the American flag on it?

Not nearly as gay or obnoxious as his jeremiad against people describing themselves as "blue collar".

Josh Naylor suffered a hideous leg injury against the Twins today. He's definitely done for the year.

If the Indians manage to stay competitive throughout the entirety of the year, Terry Francona deserves a goddamn Medal of Honor.

Germán Márquez of the Rockies came three outs away from no-hitting the Pirates at Coors Field. Ka'ai Tom broke it up with a lead off liner for a single to start off the 9th inning and then got erased on a double play.

Trevor Bauer of the Dodgers is facing an investigation for an alleged assault by the way.

I'm not going to bother signing up for an account to The Athletic to view the article in full, but they've released some details about this restraining order against Trevor Bauer. I'll quote the part that can be seen:

Content warning: This story includes allegations of sexual assault that may be difficult to read and emotionally upsetting.

A domestic violence restraining order filed against Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer and executed on June 28 includes multiple graphic images from the woman who filed the request. The woman, in the 67-page ex-parte document, said that Bauer assaulted her on two different occasions. Together, the woman said those two incidents included Bauer punching her in the face, vagina, and buttocks, sticking his fingers down her throat, and strangling her to the point where she lost consciousness multiple times.
If this shit is true he's done with baseball, at least MLB. Considering that a lot of people don't like him to begin with based on his personality, that hammer would be dropped on him hard.

I read the whole article, it gets way worse.

The woman, who is 27 years old, provided multiple pictures as part of the request to the court. In those photos, the woman's face is visibly bruised and swollen, including under both of her eyes. She also has a swollen jaw, bloodied lip and scratches to the side of her face.

In the woman's declaration, signed under penalty of perjury, she said that her medical notes states that she had "significant head and facial trauma" and that there were signs of basilar skull fracture.

So there is photographic/medical evidence that somebody beat the shit out of this girl. And the cherry on top:

The Pasadena Police had her send a text to Bauer stating that she'd like to talk over the phone and that, in the course of that recorded phone call, she asked Bauer: "What did you do to me when I was unconscious?"

Bauer admitted to punching her in the buttocks repeatedly, but when she said that she did not consent to that and did not consider it a “free-for-all,” Bauer then tried to change the conversation.

He is beyond fucked. On audio, admitting that at minimum he beat her while she was passed out...unless there's some constitutional issue with the police trapping him with the phone call, he'll be lucky to not go to jail.

IIRC Trevor Bauer is a good little leftist, so he's not going anywhere.
What? Bauer is a hardcore Trump guy, he tweeted out "MAGA" after the '16 election, posted Obama birther conspiracy theory stuff, etc.

Missed it yesterday since the Farms kept crashing, but Happy belated Bobby Bonilla Day everyone!

For the most part, starters are the correct choice. Trout being a starter is an absolute joke, though.
I don't know if you watch baseball, but the fans are the ones who vote for the All Stars. Trout is a very popular player and would receive a large amount of votes regardless of his on-field status. Obviously, he won't play in the game, but you can't stop people from voting.

My point was that fan voting is largely AIDS, especially in a game that determines home field advantage.

To be fair, baseball has better success with it in comparison to shit like the godawful NBA All-Star process but I still wouldn't be that sad to see fan voting dimished to 25-50 percent of the vote or removed altogether.

Home field advantage hasn't been determined by the winner of the All-Star Game since 2016. I agree with you mostly about fan voting sucking though.
