And now Vegas has two baseball teams, and only one is a JV team
Not unheard of for Major and Minor League teams to be in the same metro area.

The Twins have the St. Paul Saints, the Astros have the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the Gwinnett Stripers are in suburban Atlanta, and Kansas City has an unaffiliated outlaw league team on the Kansas side called the Monarchs (formerly the T-Bones).

Minor League Baseball is a fun autistic rabbit hole to jump down.

Interesting news. It will be the 4th city in the Athletics history.

Also NYC has the Mets and the Cyclones and the Yankees and Staten Island Yankees.
The Las Vegas AAA team is the bitch hot potato of minor league teams. Nobody wants it. It's supposedly a really bad environment for baseball but the new park will maybe be enclosed in some way.

A lot of teams started localizing their minor league systems about fifteen years ago, probably so it would be easier to make roster moves. Cleveland switched their AAA affiliate from Buffalo to Columbus, they already had Akron at AA, then Lake County at Low-A.

Exactly what I was thinking when I mentioned the Las Vegas 51's. It was a Mets AAA farm team, they bought out the much closer Syracuse AAA Franchise in 2018. Who got the AAA Vegas franchise? The Athletics. They are called the Aviators now. So the notoriously cheap A's will not be paying much in travel costs to call up players!

I previously introduced you to the one and only the people's champion the Baseball Hut last year on page 58 but with the hot stove heating up it's time to share this gem again. The Hut is a grocer from Queens who first burst on the scene as The Comic Book Hut and his exploits have been chronicled in the #Comicsgate thread where he was first pro then anti then pro-comicsgate. He still does have a Comic Book Hut channel but it has been wiped several times and the current oldest video is only 2 months old.
He had a political channel also The Patriot Hut where he covered stuff like the Bud Lite controversy but google reveals this channel became the current Comic Book Hut channel. 1701473783221.png

Here is the Hut in his classic appearance on Ethan Van Sciver's podcast.
1701472711710.png

In recent years he's had more success with NY Mets content.

He has a new channel called The Prospect Hut focusing on Mets minor league prospects

His other channels are The Baseball Hut with Mets news clickbait and rumors

and The Baseball Hut 2 more Mets stuff often focusing on WFAN

plus the Football Hut covering the Giants and Jets and more WFAN

Check out this beautiful mug, he was around for a few years before he started showing his face on videos but the KINEMASTER watermark still remains as he still doesn't know how to get rid of that.

The baseball Hut 2 seems to be the most unhinged of the channels where he a-logs WFAN sports radio and goes a bit more off the rails. Christopher has had some blowups and spergouts over the years and he can be pretty entertaining when he goes off.

I don't know if anyone will appreciate this guy the way I do but if you want your Mets news delivered by a munted lolcow this is your #1 source!

It's pretty fucking based that Ohtani is telling teams that he'll hold it against teams if they blab to the scum media about their negotiations or any pertinent details.

I remember the cringe-fest that was "The Decision" when LeBron moved to Miami.

Ohtani seems to be all about Baseball and cares little for celebrity or wealth. I remember that GQ video where practically all of his "can't live without" items were Baseball-related...compare that to players of "certain persuasions" who are all about jewelry and other meaningless shit.

Apparently the Rangers and Mets are out by the way, which leaves the Dodgers, Cubs, Blue Jays and Angels.

I don't see him staying with the Angels or moving to the absolute shit pile that is Canada, so it will likely be a showdown between the Dodgers and the Cubs.

One podcast was saying that the Giants are probably also watching silently and will try and offer the most money. The problem is that their park is apparently bad for left handed batters.

Also, fuck San Francisco.

According to my source (a fat grocer from Queens) The Mets would rather sign RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

I maintain convinced that Ohtani will turn out to be the largest free agent bust of all time when it turns out that his pitching's gone to shit after another Tommy John and another 1.5+ years off the mound. Anyone can overpay for a decent bat in the outfield, why pay a historically large amount for it? We are watching in real time why teams have avoided letting players that both pitch and hit - injuries are catastrophic.

There is no other 2 way guy like him but I would look at DeGrom and Bryce Harper as similar. He could end up like Bryce, a great hitter but the arm is fucked so only a DH or first baseman at best. Still a great player. Certainly next year he will be this. Or like DeGrom brilliant pitcher for like a handful of games a year before injured. Very high risk signing. I would only give him DH money. High risk and I don't think he will be signed until after the other Jap pitchers posted are off the board because they have a better upside.

The absolute malding by the scum sports media regarding Shohei Ohtani has truly reached lolcow levels.

The zeitgeist has now turned on Ohtani because of the effective gag order that he’s placed on teams and other “convenient perceptions”.

Let’s examine the reality of what the scum are complaining about.

Motherfuckers are all up in arms regarding the “missed opportunities” in not turning this into a media circus. They specifically talk about losing out on the hype and “engagement” that such a signing should bring.

Ohtani doesn’t care about hype. He’s an extremely private person with a practically insignificant social media presence. He’s simply all about Baseball and that’s it. Beyond binding media responsibilities and commercials for brands that he’s affiliated with, the guy is a ghost.

So that specific grievance is very much in the style of current year consoom product, measure worth by clicks and subs. It’s a microcosm of effectively everything that’s fucked up with the world now.

Dave Roberts due to half of his genetics probably couldn’t help himself and apparently droned on for 20 minutes about the content of their meetings with Ohtani. This was followed by their GM Gomes having to clean up the mess and refuting everything that Roberts said.

Some would say that Ohtani is being unreasonable. I would say that like most geniuses, he’s probably a little eccentric. Is it really that much to ask, for teams to follow some simple instructions so that you make the guy feel as though you’re a serious organization ?

I really don’t think it’s that hard for Managers or other personnel to make neutral comments to the media scum along the lines of “We meet many players in the offseason and are always looking to improve our roster”. Your job is not to be famous or to be a lightning rod. It’s to fucking win games and championships.

Take Bill Parcells, who may have the most prolific Coaching Tree in NFL history. He was famous for giving the media absolutely nothing. Called them fucking commies for trying to “subvert from within”. Damn, Parcells was pretty based now that I think about it.

Before you say, “Well who the fuck is Ohtani to dictate shit to teams and keep the media in the dark ?”, let me remind you that this same media is the group campaigning for more forced diversity mystery meat genderspecial dangerhair shit in video games, movies and TV. They deserve to be tarred, feathered and laughed out of their “profession”. Medieval torture also comes to mind.

I also see people haranguing about how “one player isn’t worth all this money”. Hey now, I’m inclined to agree to a certain point, but money isn’t what is holding these negotiations from being completed.

Ohtani has demonstrated that he doesn’t really care about money, especially from his Baseball salary. He’s already given up tens of millions by coming to the MLB early. You also would have noticed how quickly his salary arbitration with the Angels ended.

He’s not some ooga booga literal shitstain wearing chains and flossing all the time. His GQ video was all about Baseball and recovery gear.

I would argue that the structure of the deal is more likely the complication. Ohtani probably is looking for flexibility based on how long he thinks that he can be a 2 way player.

Dave Sansom had probably the best insights into the situation by drawing parallels to his negotiations with Ichiro. Ichiro was much more interested in the day-to-day Baseball operations of the club, the Spring Training facilities; essentially, how well those facilities and operations gelled with his own preparations and routines. This adds to the negotiating complexity.

Ohtani is likely following suit and I applaud him for doing so. He’s the best investment any team could make and is literally the reason why Baseball has any relevancy in this day and age, for all of the right reasons.

Even in the likely scenario that part of the way through the deal, he’d have to give up pitching, I’d argue that he would be a brilliant offensive player. He’s clearly able to hit for power and average and his base-running is fucking elite for his size. On a good team without dead weight like Rendon, opponents would not be able to pitch around him. He’d be a legit Triple Crown Threat for many years.

I wish him the best and hope that he ends up in a great situation.

Lastly, fuck the media scum.

Alright boys, time for some schizo posting.

Intrepid Twitter users using weaponized autism have discovered the following:

A flight has popped up from John Wayne Airport (the closest airport to Ohtani) to Toronto. The last time such a flight between these 2 airports happened was in 2022.

The private jet in question is a Bombardier Global 5000, which is a model that Ohtani has flown before. It's also operated by a company that apparently provides FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) services to non-US citizens.

Yusei Kikuchi who is currently on the Blue Jays has placed a 50+ person reservation for tonight at an upscale sushi restaurant near the Rogers Center.

John Morosi from MLB Network who apparently has a history of calling moves expects that Ohtani will announce his decision within today.

Betting markets now have very close odds between the Dodgers and the Blue Jays, so it does appear to be down to these 2 teams.

More intrigue: apparently Kikuchi and Ohtani are childhood friends.

Shit, is it really going to be Toronto ?

Update:False alarm apparently. Ohtani is at home in Southern California.

The wait continues !
