Baseball Thread

Three little words: "double play depth". And this was after all the media fawning over the Yankees being in the WS after 9/11.
I boycotted that 2001 World Series because of the 9/11 shit the media was laying in so thick, it felt rigged as fuck. When I found out about Byung-hyun Kim, who had been amazing that year, completely fall apart in Yankee Stadium, I felt justified in my boycott.

Rangers lineup will be too much for Dbacks pitching but the Rangers only have two solid pitchers in Montgomery and Eovaldi. I expect them to struggle when it moves past them. As a result I say Rangers in 6.
Looks like we're both about to be wrong in terms of games played. Guessing the party in the DFW area will be epic.

Really makes you think.

Y’know as an Astros fan I’m lowkey glad the rangers finally got their first World Series title. Imagine, two Texas teams winning back to back in the 2022 and 2023 world series

Admittedly this World Series was kinda boring this year. I kinda wished that the Phillies were in the World Series, they would have provided more entertainment and competition to the Rangers.

Been seeing a lot of nigger cattle bitching about the regular season meaning nothing with infographics like this:

It's like people forgot that in the 40s there were still only 16 clubs and 20 by the 60s. So yes in a format where it's League Championships then World Series of course big win teams are most likely to win it all.

If people want only 100+ game winners to win the series then you'd need to downsize back under 24 teams and two divisions but no one wants that.

I thought it was a fun playoff. Not sure where all this bitching is coming from.

That graphic leaves out the 1973 Mets, who won the NL pennant with 82 wins.

Just found out the last time the D-Backs were in the World Series was back in 2001 when they faced the NY Yankees. For some reason, it made me remember the fact this game also existed:

The coincidence comes in when this cover star is also a player for the Arizona Diamondbacks by the name of Luis Gonzalez. I remember that the series used to be called Triple Play, before it changed into MVP Baseball.

Now I’m wondering if anyone played this one, because to my knowledge, this is the only time I’ve ever seen a Diamondbacks player on a baseball video game cover since then.

I took a look at my old games, this was the one I had.

Nice!

I played that game so much as a kid, and as luck would have it, I want to update this thread to tell all of you that Diamondbacks legend Randy Johnson was in fact on an MVP Baseball cover:

It’s a cool photo since he shared the cover with Miguel Tejada when he was on the Athletics. It makes one wish games like this were made again.

Congratulations to the Hanshin Tigers for winning their first Japan Series since 1985 and breaking the curse of Colonel Sanders.

The Cubs going all made man on David Ross to hire Craig Counsell as their new manager was a ballsy ass move.
2 championships breaking massive droughts/curses in one year
