Mike Yastrzemski was traded to KC. Homered in his first at-bat as a Royal.

ETA: Am I the only one rubbed the wrong way by 2nd and 3rd generation players? I understand like any other job, it's less about raw talent and more about who can vouch for you. But there's a fine line between networking and nepotism.

This player really was not given a chance at first and wasn't a rookie till age 28. He's league average.. not really like his grandpa. The nepotism would help with getting signed and scouted but after that there has to be results. Maybe they get more second chances than a nobody. 2nd/3rd gen players have an advantage in getting taught how to play and being immersed in the game for their whole lives. From the 80s/90s I remember Cal Ripken Jr, Ken Griffey Jr. the Alomars, Barry Bonds, the Boones, Brian McRae, Stottlemyres, Ozzie Virgil Jr... so it's really a part of the game at this point. A few of those far out performed their dads, some did not.

Not really. If anything I think you're putting too much weight into any potential nepotism at the pro (I know you've talked about it before regarding amateurs) level; if anything, I think it makes sense in sports that a lot of guys would be second or even third generation athletes. For one, they'll often have the genes for it from their parent(s), as well as the advantages of growing up in an environment where they've already got an in house expert as well as the financial resources from the parent of whose footsteps they're following.

The only instance of a second generation player that rubs me the wrong way is LeBron James' kid, Bronny (good one, LeBron) James, who literally was drafted because daddy told management to do it. Realistically he's a kid who likely wouldn't have been drafted if he had grown up in Arkansas raised by a nurse and a pipe fitter.
 
I enjoyed watching the Jazz Chisolm get thrown out at 1st on a motherfucking infield pop-up. I mean, there are dumb plays and then there are nigger dumb plays.

Given the Clase and Ortiz situation, I actually would not be surprised if this is related to some gambling shit. I mean, that's how incredibly stupid that play was.

Speaking of which, I'm reading that Clase and Ortiz had their lockers cleaned out in Cleveland. It seems as though they may be banned for the rest of their lives from the MLB.

I agree with banning any players who are found guilty of partaking in gambling, although given how prevalent gambling sponsors are these days for all sports, it's a weird situation. I'm not sure if the league will ever be able to fully stop players at the very least sharing confidential info with their cousins or some shit, but it's a start I guess.

Also, given that both players caught are niggers, you know that the NPC crowd is going to be bleating about how RAYCISSSSS it is.

My luck the one pack of cards I bought this year had Clase's card. This is another thing I could really go off on related to baseball. The price of packs and cases is outrageous right now and it's all because of people who pack rip and break on youtube and tik tok and shit, motherfuckers. Scalpers too. It was like $8.99 for one ordinary pack of Topps and I got nowhere near that worth of cards in the thing.

Mike Piazza was the greatest nepo baby in MLB history. His family was rich and friends with Tommy Lasorda, so the Dodgers drafted him (in the 62nd round, mind you) as a favor..

The Yankees coaching staff has to be retarded. 3rd graders in Little League know to go back to the bag. It seems like they're making blatant defensive errors or baserunning blunders every week. High school JV players would get benched for that shit.

If you're throwing games or point shaving, you should be banned, but the league partnering with sports betting is completely hypocritical, I'll agree. There have been players that have committed all sorts of crimes and not received lifetime bans, though. Steroids? Suspension. Beat your wife? Suspension. Gamble? Too far for the upstanding MLB. Lifetime ban.

IMHO disciplinary action is administered selectively. Who gets in trouble and who gets a free pass is usually a small-p political decision.

Guarantee you if the Yankees or Dodgers had been caught doing what the Astros were doing, they'd be praised for strategic innovation instead of vilified. Even if cities like Houston are big, their teams are still supposed to be the league's whipping boys, and thus will be made an example of when things don't go according to plan.

Yes, I did just say the Astros did nothing wrong. Blow me.

It's bad when Jeter and A-Rod openly voice their questions on why no one is getting benched when they would have rode the pine back in the day.
 
Walking Tub of Lard Joc Pederson hit a game tying homerun in the bottom of the 9th off of Devin Wililams. The Rangers would later win in Extras on a walkoff HR. This was only Joc's third HR of the entire season. Devin Williams is so buck broken by Pete Alonso it is crazy. Joc wins an ounce of good will from me for now, no doubt he will squander it.

It happens less now that the draft has been shortened to 20 rounds & more NDFA get signed right after the draft. But MLB clubs used to use late round picks like you mentioned to draft courtesy picks for nepo babies of coaches & former MLB players that weren't good enough to cut it but wanted to still be able to claim they got drafted.

If they are just going to keep him DHing like they did last game I honestly wouldn't be too upset. The Rangers have had god awful DH production 3 years in a row at this point so might as well, lord know he will hit better than Fat Fuck Joc. (Or not, maybe Joctober started early this year.)
