Fuck I'm surprise my team has been able to go .500 or above

I'm surprised at all the injuries my Mets had the past few weeks. It seems like the team's lost 2/3rds of their players due to injuries, and I'm surprised they're still in 2nd place. It shows how much of a shit show the NL East has been this year besides Washington.

Cubs are mediocre this year and I haven't watched a single game this season despite watching/listening to every game of the Quade/Sveum era because nothing can top Game 7 of the World Series

Man, I didn't even recount to you guys my Game 7 story

I watched the NLCS from a hospital bed due to cirrocis of the liver if you believe the kiwi rumor mill (I had a heart infection) and it was straight out of Major League 2 when the Manager is trying not to scream at hte game. I was out by the time world series rolled around.

as many of you know, I live in China so the game started at like 7:30 am. My friend owns a bar (well, until they got evicted in Feb for being a public nuisance) so I convinced him to open it up and a bunch of Cubs fans converged. A couple of them said they weren't even baseball fans, but their dad was and their dad only had a couple months to live so this was his last chance. Fucking brutal.

Since my friend owned the bar and is an unreliable fuckhead, I kept going behind the bar to refill my beer myself and drank for free. I was pretty fucking wasted by the time it looked like the Cubs would win it. One of the fans, also super wasted, got really serious. He's a little bit older than me (I'm guessing late 40s, early 50s), so he's seen way more meltdowns than me. Like, I wasn't born yet when the Leon Durham thing happened. He kept repeating "ok, we need to get serious, this is when they fuck it up" and THEY FUCKED IT UP. ALEX GONZALEZ LEON DURHAM AND MANNY RAMIREZ'S STEROID INFUSED RAMPAGE ALL OVER AGAIN

Then they won. I immediately ordered the most expensive thing on the menu (some $40 steak thing that I barely remember eating because I was wasted), smoked a joint, bought an 8ball, and then partied for like 12 more hours because it was only noon.

It was the greatest day of my life (don't tell my wife) and I am not sorry for double posting.

I've been trying to understand the appeal of baseball since, kinda like cricket, it seems to be a very sedate and slow-paced (dare I say "boring"?) game. Still, millions of fans can't be wrong, so I figured I must be missing something. I have been watching Ken Burns's seminal documentary on the sport, and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Still, it mostly seems to be focusing on baseball as a cultural phenomenon, a kind of pillar of Americana, rather than as an exciting game in and of itself.

I'd like to ask you guys what you find appealing about the sport of baseball. What's the hook? What are the most enjoyable aspects of a given match? And could you recommend any particularly noteworthy historic matches for me to watch?

Thanks in advance.

You're right, it's boring. I played in college, even got a small scholarship to do it and I will tell you AT BEST it's Latin America's version of golf as it requires pricey equipment (for the region), a ton of skill to make contact with the ball and ultimately the least exciting thing on TV unless you have some level of Stockholm syndrome for a particular team. And at worst America's excuse for binge drinking before sundown. The reason baseball has any popularity here is because you can get royally shit-housed on cheap beer, eat a package of hot links and still be able to follow the game while your spastic uncle can rattle off meaningless statistics from the fucking 20s. Sure, the Japanese love it, but their cultural autism also makes them love pro wrestling and cartoons about little girls who drive WW2 tanks, so take from that what you will.

It's opening day guy's

Predictions, prognostication, forecasts? What are you looking forward to seeing this season? Can juiced baseballs melt steel beams?

Phillies already pulled a loss.

But, I was working on my deck, smoking a cigar glass of bourbon grilling listening to the radio. I ain't even mad. Baseball is back!

20-1 and two grand slamimis in one game.

The season can end now or I can die, either or that felt good.

At our home opener, we booed out GM and then went to win 5-0 shut out. I take pride in being such shit fans.

Sorry to double post but they are already 2 bench clearing fights in the BOSvNYY game tonight.

I <3 baseball fights.

Two fights in one game. That was incredible. I love a baseball brawl but the one I'm most upset with is Tyler Austin slugging a coach.

Speaking of that, with out too much power level my nephew has this sick AAA team hat its got a very trippy polka dot lay out and tried to give it to me since he knows I love baseball. What a sweetie. He's only 4.

I spent an hour this morning in batting cages.

Ugh weather stop keeping me from watching the twins they're actually playing good now

I'm jinxing myself here, but, HOLY CRAP, me Buccos are 11-4

Yes, half those wins are against the Cincinnati "We're a real baseball team, honest!' Reds, and Miami "Fire Sale" Marlins, but they count! And they won their first series against the Cubs, the NL central is a Murder's Row if you are subpar, the Cards and Crew will eat you alive and that was BEFORE the Cubs ascendancy.

EVERYTHING had to go right this year to not fall off a cliff to start the season.

Marte and Polanco would have to step up and not only be the hitters they were supposed to be, but BETTER to make up for the loss of Andrew McCutchen, Cory Dickerson would have to start producing immediately and not be another young prospect dumped on our gullible GM for eight bucks and a sack of baseballs.... and the starting staff would have to not only replace departed ace Gerritt Cole, but, be consistently good enough to stay out of the bullpen early since it is, and will always be, a liability, painfully so since only 2 years ago it was one of the best with the Watson-Melancon shutdown unit....

EVERYTHING had to work, not once piece could flounder, or they'd be 3 - 12 right now and 5 games off the pace.

And waddaya know, the madmen are making it work!

It could all (and probably will) go to Hell in a handbasket after All-Star break, or when they hit that stretch in July where they lose 12 of 15 and fall into the basement, but until then, nobody pinch me.
