Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

BF1 and BFV tho? Yeah, that's just stockholm syndrome talking, I don't care that these are the most active entries. Halo 5 and Halo Infinite are also more active than fan-run servers for Halo 2 or 3 but I doubt any Halo fan will tell you they're superior or even worth the money. If I had a gun held to my head, I would unironically play 2042 over these two since at least there was some experimentation done with 2042 that you don't see in BF1 or BFV, BF1
What was wrong with Battlefield 1 (from your experience?) I cannot speak for PC; I know EA doesn't maintain their own PC titles after their lifecycle has passed. I thought it was a great Battlefield title in its own regard, when it was active. Yes, it takes creative liberties with its WW1 setting for preserving its gameplay loop (anarchistic automatic weapons available in multiplayer, that female cover art for its premium edition) but DICE executed its authenticity well for a oft-forgotten world war to blend it into Battlefield.

BFV are good and are on sale? The games were fine at the end of their life span, and most people who played V specificially thought it could have thrived if given an extra year of content like 2042 was.
If V wasn't buggy, I'd say it was a good, not GREAT Battlefield title. That fortification gimmick to build, not destroy, added a wrinkle of depth to the Battlefield formula. That Pacific War update added some life to it, but EA/DICE still stuck with their historical inaccuracies from their comically loud Japanese infantry and operator bundles.

I do own it on the 360 tho(being given away for free years ago) so I might give it a shot.
BF3's console servers have been axed a while back, so most you'll have is the campaign. (Well, unless you have a PS3, I believe somebody is working on a revival project for that title as well.)

What is it with battlefield community servers and being run by the most extreme control freaks on the planet? I just left a BFV server where the rules were:

No Satire
No Political Speech
No Tea Bagging

It's not just one game either.

BFV is fun but I can see why Hell Let Loose and MW2019 stole their lunch in the next year.

I'll go ahead and buy hardline as well since I heard the dead space devs made it. Edit: nvm, it's really not worth it.

ngl looking forward to the open beta, based on everything I've seen if they deliver the game in a finished, optimized playable state they may have caught lightning in a bottle again the way they did with bf2, bc2 and bf3

Again, I want to re-iterate that this is the exact same "hypetrain" people gaslight themselves into for Battlefield 2042, and they even coped about it for a little bit still after the beta bombed. At least wait until you buy the game and all the ugly features you thought were removed are back, but you will still get in your hamster wheel and grind out the battle pass and buy the microtransactions. It happened before, it will happen again, especially with the COD hate train going like with BF1, possibly the most overrated game in this franchise.

If you don't like Battlefield, that's cool bro, myself, I have always enjoyed the franchise. Personally, I have never given two shits about Call of Duty, I liked Modern Warfare 1-3, that's about it. If you buy microtransactions in an EA game you probably have brain damage, ditto for pre-ordering a game lol. There is no incentive beyond cosmetics, which gives you no tangible in-game benefits, because you cannot see your own guy and all the weapon skins you could ever want you can just earn by playing the game. It's a fun, casual game that I can play after work for 30 minutes after dinner before I go to bed, which is great. I have no idea why playing a free open beta to sample the game would make you irascibly angry, I'm not saying you have to, you're free to skip it, or never buy another FPS ever, you can spend your time and money however you like.

BF1 was a fantastic game, if you didn't like it, idk what to tell you, takes all kinds to make a world I reckon.

The bass section reminds me of this:
Sick dude, I don't really play COD but I'll have to check out that OST, I like that track

The MW2 OST had some bangers composed by Hans Zimmer

I get that they're shooting for a BF3/BF4 derezzed high distortion vibe with this one, and I dig it. Looking forward to hearing the main theme for BF6 and the rest of the OST

It was an awful WW1 game, you cannot argue this. Hell, most people run around with automatic weapons like in any other Battlefield, when automatics were either extremely heavy and temperamental HMGs or prototype SMGs used by lucky few who were issued with them. This was the one time you could make Bolt Action Rifles and similar weapons the meta and create an interesting experience, but nope, same exact game as the previous several modern era games except it looks like it's set in WW1, just barely. You liked it because it is just more of the same, that's exactly my point, it could have taken place on the moon and you would have still liked it because it is barely any different from BF4, and that game was barely any different from BF3. Most overrated game of the last generation in my opinion, only casuals who have no taste were obsessed with this game in experience. Oh, and let's not even go over how many fucking niggers are in that game, I'm not considering that fact when judging the game because it is about as historically accurate as COD Vanguard(altho that game might win out some in the accuracy department) but it does re-iterate that the people who play this game are brainless nigger cattle who don't even see that as a problem(or they're genuinely that stupid and uneducated and really think every other soldier in the trenches of Europe was a pajeet). Let's not talk about the girlboss mission in the campaign either or many other really fucking stupid decisions the devs made in that regard(like, say, relegating a major faction of the conflict, Russians, as fucking DLC) since the nigger cattle who plays this game clearly don't care.

So yeah, when I think of goyslop or fast food of video games or whatever, I think of several games in particular but BF1 is the one I think of most often, as it is a turd covered stale half eaten cheeseburger of online FPS games, only hyped up because "it is not Call of Duty". I don't think it is a bad game, I don't even care if you had fun with it, but to call it a "fantastic game" means you don't know what that means. Of course "it takes all kinds to make a world I reckon" but even I won't pretend that some of the games I like are "fantastic" if they're not, because I actually played enough games to have a point of reference for what that means. Most BF1 fans don't have that if they're chomping down on that shit covered burger like it's the second coming of flavor town, but I guess that gives you a point of reference as to why DICE thought they could get away with shitting on their fans even more blatantly with BFV(and they were right, since it only took a few updates towards the end of the game's lifespan for them to come crawling back).

Minor point: I meant to say in my last post "At least wait to try out the beta before you buy it" but it ate that part when I was editing it. You should definitely wait to actually play it before you get excited in any capacity, especially after the disaster that was the 2042 beta. That should be obvious, tho.

Ignoring that 2042 was hype up until the beta, and then people started coping, going "well, they'll make it good in time."

This was from a content creator during the beta for 2042. If you watch any of the Battlefield 6 event gameplay, you can already see how much more excited people are playing this game than they were for 2042. DICE knows that this is probably their last shot at a successful Battlefield title before EA decides to can them, so they're trying their best not to fuck up.

You can blackpill all you want, but I'm choosing to be hopepilled.

I absolutely will lol, not every game has to be ultra-realistic to be good, they do have WW1 sims if that's what you're looking for. I have played Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo, if you're looking for a more 'authentic' milsim experience, I recommend those. Battlefield and COD are casual games for regular dudes who don't have the time to play something like Arma or Tarkov, there is plenty of space in the market for both types of shooters. I liked it because it was a fun, casual game.

If you want more 'authentic' milsim WW2 experiences, I would recommend playing Red Orchestra or Rising Storm, if you want a more 'authentic' milsim modern experience, play Squad or Arma, EFT if you want a good milsim extraction shooter. It's unreasonable to get mad at a franchise for being what it has always been and trying to deliver on that experience for its players. I have more legitimate gripes with other choices in BF game design than with the casual nature of the game. It's a wonderful game that to this day retains a large playerbase. I would even argue that mechanically BFV was good, obviously neither BF1 or BFV is delivering on hyperrealism unless you think that there were legitimately black snipers in the imperial German army or that the British sent women with prosthetic arms into front line combat during world war 2.

To your last point, I skipped BF2042 based on my experience with the open beta. Last month, I picked up BF2042 for like 2 dollars during the summer sale, I have played it and it is a much better game now than what I played, I don't get why they decided to chase trends with BFV and 2042, but clearly BF6 is a make or break game for the franchise and they have been intensively developing the game with extensive player feedback and playtesting, which gives me a degree of optimism.

This is what ended up happening with me, I tried the beta, it bricked my computer, so I didn't end up getting the game until a year after it's release on a deep sale, had fun with it for 40 hours before something else caught my eye

You forgot to actually argue how BF1 is a good "WW1 game", you just said that it is a Battlefield game, and therefore you like it.
See, there you go, the IQ level of your average BF1 fan. What an overrated shitheap that game is, I forgot how much that game pisses me off since it's been irrelevant for years.
"milsim"
as if you know what that even means if you like BF1 so much. Like it all you want, but it will never be a WW1 game, it is reskinned Battlefield 4. I couldn't care less if BF5 is a WW2 game either since BF1942 exists and will forever overshadow that piece of shit, unless you're also the same nigger cattle that has to consoom the latest product only and exclusively and can't enjoy old(better) games.

lol, lmao even. Never heard of that game bricking anyone's computer, maybe it was a sign.

I'm being overly generous with how it "bricked" my pc but the game ran like shit and it crashed my computer once. Anyway, I don't understand why you're in the Battlefield thread, only to then shit on people for being hopeful for the next Battlefield game.

The single biggest problem with Battlefield ever since 1 is they went balls-deep into Current Year nonsense about "centering the experiences of women and people of color." It was a massive turn-off and made everyone who was sick of being browbeaten of how important women and niggers are just ignore them.

"But in the actual gameplay..."

It's too late, your marketing already turned me off. All they need to do to steal COD's thunder is make a game that isn't brimming with gay shit. Just don't rub people's noses is gay Current Year shit, and it will sell like hotcakes.

The second thing to do is just don't participate in the Fortnitification/Overwatchification trend infesting the FPS scene like a cancer. No Nicki Minaj skins. Let us play as real countries. No operators. Just be normal. Let us have a normal goddamned Battlefield game, PLEASE.
