Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

The second thing to do is just don't participate in the Fortnitification/Overwatchification trend infesting the FPS scene like a cancer. No Nicki Minaj skins. Let us play as real countries. No operators. Just be normal. Let us have a normal goddamned Battlefield game, PLEASE.

The main villains for this game are some PMC group, but you do primarily play as NATO for the "good" faction. People who have played it have already said that the devs are focusing on taking it back to it's battlefield roots, they don't want to make OW or Fortnite like they tried to do in 2042. They also already came out and said no crossover skins or anything silly like that. so again, i'm choosing to be hopeful

If they will really make France and Ukraine the villains of this game, I just can't take it seriously. It's even more cringe than the "Ex-Pat" shit from 2042 or whatever the fuck that was. Russia VS US has been so overdone by this point, but if you can't think of anything better, for fuck's sake just do it again. Especially if you're going "back to your roots".
In my opinion, 3 had the best intro
One thing I hated about BF3 and 4 is how they turned the iconic orchestral theme of the franchise into synthetic fart noises. I actually had quite a few problems with the artistic direction of those games, but I just can't forgive them for that in particular.

Incredibly faggy lore. It's like they plugged in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare into ChatGPT and asked it to make it legally distinct. I'd rather them make up a fictional counterpart to NATO and have it be like BRICS or something instead of a literal stateless faggy PMC group that's stronger than NATO nation states combined.

3's adaptation of the theme is phenomenal. One of the best ways they could have handled it, entirely different but so similar. BF4's was a bit too harsh I do agree but I didn't think the soundtrack for either game was bad at all.
All that said BF6 looks like it's going to be shit, compared to the greats obviously. 2042, 5 and "One" are parts of a downward trend so obviously it'll look way better by comparison.

So from what I can tell, NATO in this story is falling apart with member states leaving left and right, Pax Armata is basically a PMC Group formed and supported by those former NATO member states.

Don't insult Atlas like that. Worldbuilding is one of the stronger aspects of that game, and it would be one of the best factions in COD history if it wasn't for that stupid face heel turn Sledgehammer made Kevin Spacey do in the latter half of the campaign(it's shit, don't bother, play zombies instead)
This is going to be the ex-pat shit 2.0 all over again, except with *insert politically relevant countries that aren't controversial picks in 2025* this time around. There will be precisely zero risks taken with the setting, especially if they are forgoing the single player again.

Stonemountain's explanation of movement in the game doesn't look too insane. Unlike other games with a slide, you can't just slide out of a sprint here; trying to do so will make you crouch sprint instead. No omnidirectional movement. Jump shooting is a thing, but it's inaccurate as far as he can tell. Drop shooting has a massive delay, so if you're going prone and trying to shoot while doing it, your character won't start shooting until their gun is level on the ground when the animation for going prone has ended. Crouch Sprinting also apparently negates Recon's motion sensor since it doesn't detect crouched or prone players.
fucking wow, if there are no hardcoded limits then it won't stop people from exploiting the fuck out of it, people will try all of the tricks in order to get it working and devs will probably cop out with that "oh yeah it was intentional so we are patching it up" excuse and break it even more.
Will you niggerfaggots stop speculating and just play the beta this weekend and then make up your mind.

i don't think they have the HDD capacity for that :smug:
me? i don't like spywares disguised as anticheats, it won't stop the chinks, a Total Chink Death + Total VPN Death is the way as it will only leave a few proxies alive and they can be banned to filter out the bugs.

I don't get it. When was the last time the French were an adversary? Not counting MW3 multiplayer.

I might, next weekend. However this is the era of Cattlefield we're talking about. It's still looking a little sloppy even if it looks a bit more palatable than the previous two entries.
one is minimum and the other is recommended, i think the extra 25GB is gay battlepass shit and paypiggy preorder crap.
As far as modern AAA games go I think 55GB isn't awful. Although something tells me it will expand itself into the latter 80GBs anyways.

I think the complaint here is that France and Ukraine as adversaries to former NATO countries in a near future game is absurd. I will say both nations are heavily unused in most games. Even Squad hasn't added France or Ukraine yet. At least the Project Reality mod for BF2 had France.
Pax Armata is basically a PMC Group formed and supported by those former NATO member states.
I'd rather they just cut out the middle man and said it was a coalition. The PMC angle is what every game does now to get around having to pick a country to be the bad guys. Personally I think throwing in the current or former camo patterns of (now former) NATO adversaries would be a hell of a lot better than the shit Pax Armata is wearing. They can still manipulate their color palette a la BF4 so they're distinct enough.

Playing BF4 over the last couple weeks reminded me of why I gravitated towards BF to begin with. You can play a match, end up with a sub 1:1 k/d ratio and still feel like a net positive to the team. Specifically in conquest and the other capture the point/objective game modes, sniper shitters are annoying but you can mostly ignore them and win through a basic level of teamwork. That's something I can't say about most of the other popular modern military shooters or adjacent games 13 years ago when I played BF3 for the first time. If the beta can capture that feeling without being too nu-COD-like in movement/shooting, I'll be interested.

Unfortunately I'm locked out of my old origin/EA account with my copies of 3 and 1. I refuse to pay EA a few bucks to get Steam copies of the games I already own.

I'll wait until I play the beta to reserve my judgement; however I do wish they'll do some more open type maps; ala op firestorm; I do like getting into tank battles at long open ranges (Silk Road in BF4 is stellar), but I do understand the need and want for smaller maps too.
The launch of the game will probably be better than 2042, but it's hard to say how it will go until the public gets it hands on the game.

I thought when they said Firestorm, they were talking about BFV's failed battle royale mode. I didn't know there was a map called Firestorm from BF4.

If you take the lead producer at his word, he apparently said that Bad Company 2 was a massive inspiration for BF6 design-wise.

"When you look for excellence in our legacy, [Bad Company 2] is where you find it," Chubb said.

"That game particularly delivered on a level of fidelity and a sort of intimate destructive experience," Chubb continued. "Blasting out a single wall, bringing down a partial building, or entire buildings. It was comprehensive, and it felt like the identity of that game more than anything else.

"We know that was kind of missing from our last game, and we really wanted to go back to that."

I wonder how that'll be implemented. It worked in BC2 because the structures and designs were fairly repetitive. They built a handful of buildings and then built the maps mainly out of them with the different topography and unique settings.
