Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

One of the saddest parts of the (admittedly good) recent game is seeing the new Stalker. It was my signature Mech as a kid, the weird ass egg on legs. Now it looks less like a Stalker and more like a svelte Catapult.

Its a B-52 Cockpit section on legs. I always imagined that the 'Heavy Stalkers " aka the 3 century ones were made with the B-52 Cockpits that had 100 years of service and were just infused with the 'Refuse to Die" spirit from the BUFFs.

Wouldn't shock me if they used parts from those. Considering that XTRO: 1945 rated the Ma Deuce as the equal of a 31st Century IS Support MG I guarantee you those are still around and in service, and not just in the Periphery.

If you feel bad about stalkers just remember what the stalker 2 is.

I'm fine with the new Stalkers. At least they look like they can walk without falling over. The original Star League Battle Blimp looked like it would fall on its ass in a stiff breeze.
I like the awkward blimp-nose of the old Stalkers, but the sidepods are just really ugly.
The missile throwers are just way too puny looking.

Doesn't help that the miniature looks like it is desperately trying to hold in its pee.

The new version on the other hand:

It does look like an overfed Catapult, but in my book, that's a good thing. I especially like the little gunport-covers that now actually work.
But it's a shame they didn't go with the round blimp-shaped nose, that's a realy bummer. I'll have to buy at least one of the new Stalkers, though, cause I bet they look fucking dope with WWII-style sharkteeth on the nose.

On a sidenote: The IS Direct Fire Lance hit my favored online-store and I ordered one right away.
Atlas, Orion, Crusader and a Marauder II.
Now that's fucking awesome, Can't wait to get all the other Lance packs.
mountain of unpainted minis? What mountain of unpainted minis? ;_;

I love the design of the new Crusader. The whole concept of "I'm shooting missiles outa my fists" tingles my brain meats.
I'm fond of the "missile launcher shoulders" of the original Macross design, but this is pretty amazing, too.

I am completely flabberghasted that the Crusader is a 65 ton mech. I always thought it was an assault class mech. The more you know, I guess.

I know, right? The damn thing has the raw chonk of an Assault, but it actually weighs the same as a Catapult.

I much prefer the new design for it, too. The original LRM fists looked way too bulky to be practical.

How can none of you mention the lulzy SRM-6 launchers in the legs? One of the few 'Mechs to put weapons there.

It goes without saying, hip-blasting randos into smithereens is a welcome feature on the mech as well.
The Wasp has a hip-mounted SRM2 and the Viking has 4 knee-mounted MGs. Other than that, I can't seem to remember Mechs with leg-mounted weapons.

Yeah, not a lot of room in the legs given the needs for actuators and all that. Its just what, two crits each?

Yeah, something to that extend. If you got the room to spare, there's still better alternatives, like heatsinks.
Putting weapons into the legs limits their field of fire, much more sensible to cram them into the arms.

The Wardog has leg mounted one shot Streak SRM's. But most Mechs have either nothing or A or B-Pods mounted in the legs.

So this just arrived at my store.
I'm not sure I'd go for it. If that's the one I think it is, they saw the complaints about MechWarrior RPGs being too crunchy (they were designed by simulationists, after all) and WAY overcompensated in the other direction.

I think someone earlier in the thread already wrote a scathing critique of it. I think its one of those "narrative" RPGs designed to be run without a GM, or something like that. If you want a Mechwarrior RPG, just get A Time of War, its splats, use the info in it to set up your game, and attach your own system, either homebrew or another game system, on to it. But even if you use A Time of War right out of the box as is, it's still probably the better game.

I just searched for it. It was actually me. So let me reaffirm what I said back then: avoid it like the plague.

Correct. Plus, if you're adjacent and fire, you can't kick either.

The Fafnir stows heavy gauss ammo in the legs, but it's hurting for crit space anyways, and there's no chance of an ammo explosion with gauss rounds.

A/B pods are somewhat situational, though they're REALLY effective if your opponent/GM throws infantry at you. I kinda wish they were a modular add-on you could stick on Mechs, but such is life.
