One of the saddest parts of the (admittedly good) recent game is seeing the new Stalker. It was my signature Mech as a kid, the weird ass egg on legs. Now it looks less like a Stalker and more like a svelte Catapult.

It still looks strange and distinct IMO.One of the saddest parts of the (admittedly good) recent game is seeing the new Stalker. It was my signature Mech as a kid, the weird ass egg on legs. Now it looks less like a Stalker and more like a svelte Catapult.
Its a B-52 Cockpit section on legs. I always imagined that the 'Heavy Stalkers " aka the 3 century ones were made with the B-52 Cockpits that had 100 years of service and were just infused with the 'Refuse to Die" spirit from the BUFFs.One of the saddest parts of the (admittedly good) recent game is seeing the new Stalker. Wouldn't shock me if they used parts from those. Considering that XTRO: 1945 rated the Ma Deuce as the equal of a 31st Century IS Support MG I guarantee you those are still around and in service, and not just in the Periphery. Its a B-52 Cockpit section on legs. I like the awkward blimp-nose of the old Stalkers, but the sidepods are just really ugly.I'm fine with the new Stalkers. At least they look like they can walk without falling over. The original Star League Battle Blimp looked like it would fall on its ass in a stiff breeze.
I'm fond of the "missile launcher shoulders" of the original Macross design, but this is pretty amazing, too.I love the design of the new Crusader. The whole concept of "I'm shooting missiles outa my fists" tingles my brain meats.
I know, right? The damn thing has the raw chonk of an Assault, but it actually weighs the same as a Catapult.I am completely flabberghasted that the Crusader is a 65 ton mech. I always thought it was an assault class mech. The more you know, I guess.
It goes without saying, hip-blasting randos into smithereens is a welcome feature on the mech as well. How can none of you mention the lulzy SRM-6 launchers in the legs? One of the few 'Mechs to put weapons there.
I'm not sure I'd go for it. If that's the one I think it is, they saw the complaints about MechWarrior RPGs being too crunchy (they were designed by simulationists, after all) and WAY overcompensated in the other direction. So this just arrived at my store.

I think someone earlier in the thread already wrote a scathing critique of it. I think its one of those "narrative" RPGs designed to be run without a GM, or something like that. If you want a Mechwarrior RPG, just get A Time of War, its splats, use the info in it to set up your game, and attach your own system, either homebrew or another game system, on to it. But even if you use A Time of War right out of the box as is, it's still probably the better game.So this just arrived at my store.
I just searched for it. It was actually me. So let me reaffirm what I said back then: avoid it like the plague.I think someone earlier in the thread already wrote a scathing critique of it. Correct. Plus, if you're adjacent and fire, you can't kick either.Yeah, something to that extend. If you got the room to spare, there's still better alternatives, like heatsinks.
Putting weapons into the legs limits their field of fire, much more sensible to cram them into the arms.
