Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Some people just like Lurms. And as @TFT-A9 said, you can load some pretty nice ammo into those.

Fill one bin with Thunder LRMs, chuck those at a chokepoint and give the other team the good news. Or use one of my favorite alternate ammo ever, the Semi-Guided Lurm. No penalty besides cost (and who's tracking that?) without a spotter, and with a TAG lock you get to ignore all target movement penalties, spotter movement penalties, and the indirect fire penalty.

Sure, you don't need to mount it on an 80-ton 'Mech, but look on the bright side: anyone getting within minimum range of the LRMs still has at least one Large Laser (depending on the model) and a 8-point battlefist to deal with, plus all that armor. That thing is no helpless support-fire 'Mech up close.
I've also been using alternate ammo for AC. I see people complaining about ACs and they keep forgetting they can slot alternate ammo to make em more deadly. AP or Precision Ammo with AC/5 People scoff at it until they realize every shot I hit with it makes me get a chance to blow something tasty in the armor.

It's amazing how a mech with one Inferno bin can almost cripple most mechs, yet people dump the SRM launchers so fast.

In Succwars play Infernos are fucking terrifying, to the point where infantry with man-portable Infernos can make themselves a serious fucking problem

Inferno rounds don't hit as hard because of double heat sinks during later eras. Now for eras when heat is a major resource yah they can make or break games. Majority of the time I forgo normal SRM ammo and stick to inferno since over heating is a major blow. OH that MAD-3R fired both its PPCs and AC5 ammo? Let me hit it with an inferno 6 SRM.

AC/5s and AC/2s have the advantage of carrying so much ammo the round count is still reasonable even if you only have one ammo bin. The problem is that -3/-4 penalty to the Crit roll. You get a +1 penalty to hit, and even if you hit you get a crit only on a 11+. That's rough. Sure, it's something you can do if you're stuck with a Dragon or want to do more with your Marauder's massively oversized shoulder turret, but still doesn't make those ACs anywhere near good.

Infernos, though? Those things are just a whole bucket of fun. Bring a couple of Commandos or Javelins and gang up on a heavy. If the ammo cook-off doesn't destroy it, there's nothing more humiliating (and hilarious) than a shutdown 'Mech being wailed on by a couple of Javelins, 3 damage per punch and fishing for headshots.

KICK CIRCLE

BULLY THE FAT KID

I still don't know why 'Mechs need skill trees. Pilots, sure. But 'Mechs? It's just busywork to keep people playing even after they built their 'Mech up to the most powerful meta build available.

Also if you haven't heard MWO did a massive rework on the skill tree while its still pretty hefty they made it a lot more manageable and made it so you can invest points in the skills you want.

It still looks like overcomplicated shit. They should have kept the original or scrapped it completely.
the fact that they touched it at all is incredible really

that said the original without the stupid Rule of Three would be nice

And another bug pops up with MW5M. Finally got through rooting through all the mods, reinstalling, ensuring everything's updated. Start a new campaign. The usual shit, I skip the tutorial because I fucking hate the dialog and it's braindead as fuck. Talk to Ryana. Blah, blah. Talk to Fahad (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHGHGH). Blah, blah. Repair the Centurion.

Now, being that I already know exactly what I want from the chassis for config with the parts I have, I go through repairing and rearranging armor levels, dropping excessive ammo and shunting what's left into head and legs while maxing armor and making tonnage shaving the empty shield arm. I also adjust the Javelin while I'm in there.

And now it won't acknowledge that I've put in the work order for the Cent and advance the stupid fucking tutorial-after-the-tutorial so I can get on with it. I roll my eyes. Load the wake-up save. I do it how the stupid fucking game wants me to, I figure I'll just rescind that order and redo it after I trip the quest trigger.

Nope. Still won't advance.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT RUSS

So, uh, still playing through Mechwarrior 4 here. I've gotten a bit into the depths of it, like mucking around with weapons and armour, Just wondering, when building up a lance if I've got the wrong mix, I've got 3 hulking mid-range mechs and 1 lighter one (a jenner) I'm deffo a bit slow in manoeuvring in my centurion at times. Are there any preferences for this timeframe in the battletech universe at all? Again, I'm a noob, this is my entrypoint,

It'll kind of depend on which variants you have and what you have available for equipment. The Jenner's biggest issue is that it's very fragile and bad at managing heat buildup. If it's the Jenner that comes with the one lancemate (Freeman) that's the D. Best thing in Vanilla for that is to take out the SRM4+ammo and the jump jets, use the freed tonnage to max armor, and allocate any spare tonnage to extra SHS. For the Centurion the stock loadout is pretty ok, but you probably don't need 2 tons of both AC10 and LRM ammo. Drop a ton of LRM ammo and use that to pack on more armor. As soon as you can get one, an LB10X Solid Slug autocannon is ideal for replacing that AC10, and at that point you can probably add back that ton of LRM ammo. As for piloting the Centurion, the trick to using it effectively is to shoot with your AC and then turn your torso so your left arm faces the enemy and catches any return fire. It's slow, there's really no way around that in Vanilla.

Speaking of MW4. How the fuck do I get it to run on Windows 11? Everytime I try to boot it up it automatically closes itself.

Not just a noob, I'm a console hoe that is playing this on ps4.

Can the pollution goblins please get their shit together in Shanghai. I've been waiting for half a year now for my AGOAC box ffs. A few packs of Wave 2 haven't even yet hit the market in Germany, that's how bad the delay is.
