I started playing it a couple days ago. Initially I was put off by the character creation. It defaulted to female she/her character portraits which is fine but it seemed like the gender pronoun change option was kind of hidden. It wasn't a good first impression, especially when there were they/them pronoun options.
After completing the character creation that i had no idea what I was doing, the first mission started. I had just come off Xcom 2 and Wasteland 3 so I was not ready for mech combat. The strategy was so much different. It's more about the best way to tank damage and regulate power rather than utilize cover and positioning. Once I figured out the flow of combat, I started having a great time.
The strategic aspect of the game was definitely designed by an autistic tranny and it's great. There's a lot of mech micromanaging. I fucked up my blackjack because I didn't know how repairing mechs worked. There's a lot of trial and error with the game but it's pretty forgiving, until you get your best pilot killed facing an enemy that outclasses them.
Honestly I've been having a lot of fun with it. I don't know fuck all about Battletech except for Mechwarrior games that I ignored the story for. It's proof that disgusting nutless freaks are capable of creating something good instead of just destroying like a plague of locust.
