Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Would love to, but apparently 2 matches is the limit for me it seems. The game suffers from a several year long issue (it resurfaces every now and again because the devs break shit every patch from what I read) that causes you to be disconnectioned to the mechlab after the match loads and you'll never be able to rejoin the match. Trying to find a new match incurs a growing penalty that prevents you from playing as well for a set time, combined them together and now I have a 10 minute penalty and I'm pretty sure the next one might be 20+. Yeah, if this continues tomorrow I'm uninstalling. Again, several year old server issue that they have not been able to fix properly so it resurfaces, and from what I can tell they pray to the Omnissiah that it fixes itself rather than doing anything themselves. I'll probably submit a ticket and maybe email their support but I won't waste much time on a Freemium game.
Sorry to hear that happened to you. That goes away after an arbitrary time limit or what?

Speaking of the King Crab: what would be a better assault mech for a unit commander to ride second seat in? I imagine it'd have to have some fire support ability along with decent mid/short range firepower along with good armor, decent mobility, and electronics that would help out the whole company.

Battlemaster. Literally the mech for that purpose, no? I also wouldn't want my commander right on top of the enemy (nearly within AC 20 range) most of the time anyway.

My primary exposure to the Battlemaster is in Mechwarrior 5
Completely fair. In my experience MW5 plays different than how one would run Battletech tabletop and how stuff is described in the books. Having only one lance and very limited options like one does in MW5 makes it pretty different from how it would "practically" work in any other environment.

The penalty? Yeah it's a timer, but I'm not sure it completely resets or it'll continue to increase even after you played x amount of games without disconnecting. The game doesn't have a system that can tell whether the player disconnection is a server issue or a user issue so it just assumes it's your fault. Maybe after a few games it'll reset back to 5 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, or something. As for the actual issue, some had it fixed after a while, some never replied back if it was fixed it not. I hear it's causes my alt-tabbing, which lines up from when the issues started. How retarded is that? Also, the fuck is this post?

A Quickdraw variant and Cataphract variant are also built for that purpose I believe, if we're talking fluff at least.
ride second seat in
Oh, second seat. Yeah just Battlemaster I believe. Mordel.net seems says there are others though.

Cyclops. It was even originally designed as a mobile unit for field commanders, complete with special computer, and there's the Capellan CP-11-A-DC with command console. There's also the Atlas AS7-D-DC which was designed with a command console.

Marauder II, Atlas, Thunder Hawk, Highlander and quiet a few others.

Though I just saw a new Mech I haven't seen before and I kinda want it.

Behold the Trebaruna. 90 Ton assault mech equipped with a Gauss rifle, 3 Light PPCs and movement profile of 3/5/4.

That thing is an abomination. This is why I stick with the classics

The Victor with the GR from TRO 3050. I can't remember the model right off the top of my head, but 4/6/4 with a GR to keep enemies far away and the ability to get out of trouble if it comes down to it by jumping away is huge.

Abominations makes the best mechs.

I think I'm just too old for the new stuff. It seems wrong to my brain.

I started way back before the unseen were unseen, back when it was BattleDroids and not Battletech so I got used to the more Jap mecha style mechs and since then all the new stuff just rubs me the wrong way for the most part. Some of the clan mechs are good but a lot are not. While I get that a lot of new players don't like the old classics because they look less like robots and more like funky armoured suits.

I like the bushwhacker, love the Timber Wolf and Mad Dog but that's really it. So many of the new designs just don't get my fusion reactor running if you get what I mean. Anything past TRO 3050 is really just not my jam.

Ain't nothing wrong with liking the new stuff mind you, it's just not my thing.

The Timber Wolf is aesthetically a really good looking design on its own, almost certainly top 5 bare minimum for the whole series. What do you think of the Warhawk or Dire Wolf designs? Those both have the snout sort of thing going on as well similar to the three you listed, although both have that uncircumcised look going on.

too boxy. It's a big square torso with a cockpit on the front looking out of place and stubby little arms on the side. I do like the cantilever style legs though.

I mean the DW look great for a big fighting robot but not what my brain says a mech should look like. I always felt mechs should be rather humanoid in appearance. I guess that why so many of the new designs are a miss for me.

My perfect mech is probably either the Warhammer or the Marauder. Both are iconic for a good reason. The Phoenix Hawk/Wasp and Locust are close 2nd's.

And yah I know the Marauder and Locust ain't really humanoid looking but I still like em.

I also tend not to like the designs past 3050, but there are some good ones here and there. I was looking through the art for 3055 Upgrade recently and quite a few stood out to me as better than I initially thought. The Penetrator, Hitman, and Daimyo are quite cool looking. This is purely aesthetically speaking, of course.

I really like (most of) the 3050s Omnimechs. They have a good design language and the repeating design elements they have bind them together and distinguishes them from the Inner Sphere 'mechs visually; a great complement their distinctiveness in game mechanics. IMO they are the peak of Battletech's mecha designs, not counting the original unseen for obvious reasons. My favorite among them is probably the Koshi.

I love the 3025 original designs, in spite of or just because they are amateurish and goofy looking. Supreme 80s jank that is made all the jankier because they had to stand next to Okawara's solid Dougram designs, and some masterwork early Studio Nue designs. They have an appealing cyclopean look to them, particularly the Hunchback and the Cyclops (natch). I feel like this look suits the early lore quite well.

God I really want to play Roguetech but of course BT is unoptimized shit on seemingly the most unoptimized Unity engine version so adding an huge and unoptimized to fuck mod on top of that is a death sentence for my PC.

Play Megamek instead.
Funny I mentioned it a while ago. Janky and stuck in Java Hell as Raptor said:
I still play megamek with some friends. Shame its stuck in java hell.
I do use it occasionally, but I mentioned Battletech's (the video game)Roguetech specifically. Has most of what I want except playability beyond an hour without needing to restart the game, optimization, and other things I mentioned...I think.

Fair enough. I will say it's been getting less janky all the time though. UI design has sharply improved as well. I dunno what the last version you tried was but if it was the old """stable""" release they kept on the website for way too long, it's moved way on from there. I feel like any amount of jankiness it has is outweighed by the depth of the campaign system, especially with stratcon.

Might be good for a forum game, honestly. I would definitely run one here if there was interest.

It's a death sentence even if you have god's own PC. I have a 7950X3D, 16 gigs of ram, big fucking SSDs (multiple), and a top of the line Nvidia GPU... and I can barely run Roguetech, and have to restart it every few missions cause of memory shit.

I've peeked at Megamek but it seemed to just be tabletop stuff, so 1 player vs another, yeah? I'm more interested in a campaign like the PC Battletech game + all the random content added to it from Roguetech than a tabletop simulator, sadly.
