I pretty new to BT as a 40k refugee, and I'm pissed that my hobbies get ruined by these weirdos. That said, there is hope as BT fans are not as hopelessly tied to the parent company like 40k fans are to GW. As such, this is my thoughts on what needs to happen.
Boycotts don't work. The whales will keep the company afloat, and Blaine himself said in the Razorfist interview that we all say we won't buy, and then the new products come out, and then people cave and get that new shiny box set. So there is really no point in a boycott. That said, raising a bunch of
apolitical support for Blaine will go a long way. If Blaine was telling the truth about his lawsuits against his stalker, he needs to hit as hard as he fucking can and make an example out of this terminally online weirdo. And it can't be a "the woke mob is trampling me" argument (even though that's what it is) because then that just polarizes people into Anti-Woke and the Sick of Anti-Woke mobs, who then fight themselves and shit up the fandom, while the people who make these problems go unaddressed.
Which leads into the other aspect of community change. There needs to be a mantra of "When at the table, shut up." This applies to all politics, and we righties have to be the first to do it (coughcough Mage Leader). When spergs start bringing political takes into the hobby, people get pissed off and then it leads to drama, which leads to autistic grudge holding that boils into instances like BLP getting harassed by his stalker. If this had been met with "stop shitting things up, you weirdo" this might have been avoided. Tex knows this, which is why he keeps his politics a little closer to the chest, and you actually have to go looking for them. If we can drill it into the heads of a few autists to just shut up at the table and play the game, I think that the worst of the drama that plagues these communities might pass over BT. I hope that Pardoe gets back into writing for BT, but ultimately that's up to him and catalyst and how they move forwards. The best the average hobbyist can do is make sure their communities adopt a policy of silence.
Does this seem servicable, and if not what would you change?
Well you could stop being a stupid fucking Clanner for starters. If you want actual advice, Clan mechs suffer in AS if you don't bring Elementals. At my local game group, the only time I have ever seen clans win against inner sphere is with Elementals, and they did so handily. I didn' t play the game, but tl;dr the Elementals can get up close and felt a mech by doing auto heat damage, and doing an auto crit to the mechs. They can be countered by having your mechs cover each other, but that limits your fire power, and numbers, which is what clans want.
