Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I also love relatively 1-to-1 Lostech upgrades for 3025 designs, not going crazy with weight saving tech. Sometimes just switching them over to double heat sinks makes surprisingly solid designs, if not exciting or fancy.
Yeah, I messed around with that when I whipped up my homebrew Discount Victor/Bigger Cent in SSW. DHS, FF, and an LB-10-X go a long way. Went from 15 tons of heatsinks to just 10, and the armor went from 11.5 tons to 11 tons, and wound up with a few more points to allocate. And replacing a basic AC/10 with just about anything else is almost guaranteed to be a net gain in efficiency.

The only change I would have made to DHS is A) the HS already in the engine are only SHS and B) all DHS have to be mounted in crit spaces. DHS alone made flashbulbs possible, but if putting in ten DHS required thirty crits, it might not have unbalanced the game as much as it did. I could even have lived with Clan DHS only taking up two crits each, but with the same rule about all of them have to be mounted.

I don't think there is a BAD wraith tbh all of them are pretty brutal IMHO.

I have a love hate with the first advance time line mechs so many put on new toys because new toys. I can see that both in a lore and fan service point but so many mechs are like hey let's put an XL on this because...NEW! Or slapping ER onto shit with shs (im looking at you drac fags legitimately we all know what panther I'm talking about).

It's fun they gave us so many more options but some are just wew lad mode.

That being said if you're a campaign player IS XLs aren't the worst thing ever.. a close 2nd but not the worst.

Friggen Wraiths. Even with Gunner 1 pilots I'm usually needing a 8-10 to shoot one down.

Nah, the Wraith is a great, if a specialized backstabber. That's why they took it from the League and gave it to the Cappies, because Writer Fiat. They didn't have a staff writer for the League until Dark Age shit, which is part of the reason why the League got the short end of most TROs between 3055 and 3145. With some improved variants snuck in here and there. Lots of Fed Suns, Wolf, and Cappie fans though, although I think the Cappie love was to balance out how hard the Fed boys shit on them.

I used to talk to one of the freelancers who worked on the 3145 Marik TRO.

I remember when TRO 3055 first came out in 1992ish and I thought the Wraith looked like a cockroach but looking at the stats I could see right away it was going to be brutal in the hands of a good gamer, especially with a good Mechwarrior in the cockpit. Give it a MW with G2/P3 stats and watch it backstab any and everything.

The Wraith is proof positive that you don't need a huge weapons load to make it count. 21 potential damage to the back, rolling at only +1 even after a jump is juicy.

Mediums in general tend to benefit greatly from specialization, since they're so easy to ignore when the mainstays in most games are the heavies and that gives them a bit more time to get into a good position before they start drawing too much attention. Personally, I have a soft spot for the Dervish. It's the polar opposite to the Wraith, but the LRM-15 variants are basically cheaper, more annoying Archers. Lots of fun for rounding out left-over BV or tonnage.

Along the same lines is the Wasp 1W. Six SL on a bug sounds like a joke, until you consider A) no one really cares about bugs when there are far bigger threats out there and B) a potential of 18 damage to a rear arc plus, depending on terrain, kick or charge damage since the SLs are all in the arm and torsos. And it's really cheap BV wise so it costs nothing to put in a good gunner.

Along the same lines is a favorite of mind: the Dasher H. Nine HSL is a whopping 54 potential damage plus kick or charge damage. Again, it's fairly cheap so it's not a huge cost to put in a hot gunner.

You have no idea how cheese builds like this are in the vidya also.

I have a Nova with 12 Heavy smalls, it runs about same hot as stock even with the freed weight into HSs, but it's called the knee capper for a reason.

So apparently for a while you where able to pick up the Inner Sphere Battle Armor Force Pack from Amazon for a while and several people got there hands on one.

One person in the Official Discord denied these claims and when showed proof of them still denied them. Dave responded but got timed out because of repeating pings.

Apparently CGL's manufacturer isn't caring about the quality of those things, either.

Lots of complaints and people posting similar pictures of the Inner Sphere BA they received.

Amazing. They managed to ship models that scream THIN YOUR PAINTS even before they're painted.

Same vibes:

Could it possibly be that those are chinese counterfits?
There is that possibility. But several pictures are making the rounds on social media. Naturally seeing it on Reddit is immediately met with "You're just hating on CGL."

It's been like that since the official forums on the CBT website when FanPro got the license. They helpy-helper and mods just said anything that wasn't genuflecting to the writers and producers of all things BattleTech was simply naysaying and hating and they just banned and banned and banned. And none of the people at the top cared because they were in an echo chamber and surrounded but sycophants who kept telling them they were doing God's work and anyone who didn't agree needed to no longer be BT fans.

It was really no wonder the sheer number of people who cared about the game just quit after FASA closed its doors. It wasn't just the insipid Jihad, but also the culture of FanPro and then CGL.

It was in the June monthy article.

Alpha strike has fans?!? I assumed the cards that came with my mechs were there because CGL hated trees or something.

Battletech is a crunchy complex game and that's it's greatest strength in the market. I can have a satisfying back and forth fight with 8 minis. I genuinely don't understand why I would pick Alpha Strike over other skirmish game slop out there? Does anyone here play it?

Sure. It's currently my group's main variant of BattleTech because it allows us to go through 3-4 scenarios in a single afternoon and we're going through a bunch of old scenario books one of the guys found at a used bookstore last year. Sometimes you just want a little less autism, or to have a company vs. company game that doesn't last the entire weekend.

Tried it. Was fun enough. I prefer the original by far but it's not too bad and I would play it again.
