Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Always remember to spay or neuter your Canopian in case it escapes into the wild.

The Atlas is noted for having an exceptionally roomy head area on account of the oversized Death's Head. The obvious downside is that you're an Atlas pilot and therefore even by BattleTech standards you're considered far, far more expendable than your machine is. You may also be part of the Lyran Commonwealth and therefore cursed to a life of endless scouting missions on account of your battalion's Commando pilots thinking a couple of SRM launchers meant they could take down a Dragon if only they could get close enough.

Some of it was better than others, but it was all distinctive, which counts for a hell of a lot more than anything else.

True though I never liked the Atlas or really any slow hulking mech. Their armor only does so much and a lot of the time since they are easy targets and threats they tend to get focused fired. Sure I guess you could say having most of the enemy's shots go to one target is useful, but losing such a high cost unit was never worth it to me. Funnily enough I've had Commando's last longer than Atlas' thanks to their speed + narrow profile. Though my personal favorite thing to do is get Wasps and or a few Stingers and slap rocket launchers on them as periphery jank is cheap and effective. Honestly the heavy rifle in certain eras is actually very decent since you can give lighter mechs a big punch and it's so cheap.

I think slow assaults truly shine as fire support platforms. The Longbow, the Marauder II, the Stalker, the Thunder Hawk, all of them are great for standing back and dishing out swarms of PPC, LRM or Gauss shots at enemies while your more more nimble frontline keeps their attention, but still able to defend themselves up close should light skirmishers try to flank them.

The Atlas was pretty much designed as a literal assault platform though for places where smaller things wouldn't cut it. It can do limited fire support and suppression with that LRM-20 and then when things get close there's the AC/20, SRM, and medium lasers.

And of course the ability to pick up a Commando and break it over its knee like Bane with Batman.

Of course, if you want fire support, a bunch of the variants strip out the AC/20 for a Gauss rifle for obvious reasons, and the FedSuns even have a version with a PPC in each arm on top of that, and the AS7-RS downgrades the missiles and autocannon to replace the medium lasers with an LL in each arm. There's even a couple with a RAC/5 for those who love dakka and overheating.

I fully agree, as a long time player I often wanted to rush in with my big guns and just slap bitches.

Stand back wither the fire and pop off. I'll take a long bow over an Atlas 85% time.

Now if you play city games assaults are absolutely amazing double so if blind games. Legit pass bricks when a Zeus even is now three hexes away but when something like an atlas rounds corner you're beyond fucked.

My play style favors big hits and moving with a decent wall. It's why I actually love the grand dragon despite not being a drac. I do like a bit of trooper feel so while it's a hoot to play I'm it fond of say the blitzkrieg. Only fire support is ok at one trick pony because alt ammos.

A long bow for example can do mines smoke anti air etc. while erll/ppc just zap direct only.

God that sarna shit boiled my blood. Unless you're worshiping trannies 24/7 your a Nazi
MAYBE some of us just want to play with tiny robots and meme the house/clan even if we dislike their political views?

I really quite like that variant. Never played tabletop but it seems to work pretty good in the videogames.
Yeah, but I'm addicted to that 64.8kph you can get with the lighter assaults since anything slower just makes MW5 a slog. I made the mistake of taking the Annihilator into that one end-game mission where you assault the ComStar relay, and even though its a relatively short mission you still spend way more time walking than killing.

And this was before modding took off in the very early releases, so its not like I was using any sort of ultra-absurd loadout, just the standard basegame weapons.

I took a Nightstar into that one with the Yet Another Mech Lab mods when they were still early on and didn't have crit slots. I was able to fit 4 HAG 40s on that thing somehow and was just sandblasting cockpits

Well, now there's a setting in YAML for one slot for all weapons, and another one for one ton for all weapons, so now you can do that again.

That said, I honestly dislike the Nightstar because at the end of the day I like being able to have at least one of each type of slot on a 'Mech since its hard to beat some of the expanded missile choices mods have added, especially ATM's and MML's, and its hard to say no to the Ultra AC/10 or LB-10X.

The anny is flat too slow for fun but i don't mind the "3/5" mechs. As long as your aren't with our fire support it feels very thematic trudging along firing at shit soaking a random light autocannon shot sensors trying to pick something up firing ppc at movement.

Is it meta? No also one of my most OP vanilla mechs has been a Beemer so squad mates just tear off and get wacked around.

The only thing that can stop an Awesome is another one, or so they say.

Of course, anyone actually familiar with BT knows there's something no MechWarrior can defeat: a basement.

Actually my game group were all into sports as a hobby and all married. We eat damn well and drink fancy beer . We're hopelessly nerdy with our tiny robots lots of laughs and memes but we break the momma's basement stereotype.

@Grayson Death Carlyle haven't had a lot of time on MWO it's no rush the H-ween event looked dope tho! Missed out on the smoke jags camos. We'll get some games in.

Maybe some of us nerds can do mega mek? Only thing I dunno how to setup java on my pi I use because Mrs never shares the TV.

I forget if I've volunteered or not yet but I know enough to set up a server and forward ports and all that for a couple of games. I feel the biggest hurdle is coordinating shit. Maybe make a group DM for all interested parties.

What about the hero one though with the 4 missile hardpoints? They're above the cockpit too and close together, it honestly feels cheap running a Wolf Phoenix with 4 SRM-6A and 2 ERPPCs. You just peak over and you can dump an alpha and then back up.

Unfortunately its lacking the ballistics slots. Its not so much the firepower as it is the options with me, since I'm terribly indecisive on loadouts and can't help but rejigger my designs every so often. I'm sure Fahad hates my guts since I'm got him stripping perfectly good loadouts for experimental ones, but thankfully for him one of the 'Mechs I do that with is a Dragoon, and don't ask how I picked up a Blood Asp several decades before its introduction while I'm currently counting down the years until the Kestrel campaign kicks off.

EDIT; Here's a thread in a waaay different forum than what we're used to where a guy ran an AtB campaign in MegaMek. First mission was a base attack against pirates. On a moonless night. In heavy urban. Against a player lance of 2 Awesomes, a Manticore, and a Hetzer. Things inevitably go badly for the pirates even before the first shot is fired.

O see the Wolf Empire seems to be doing great so far what with mobs and supposedly going into it with Capellians. I wish we had more news on the new Jade Falcon Khan and his desperate attempts to keep their territory together.
