What's the state of porn like in the rest of the galaxy? I know Canopus is known for its porn, and there's several porn-worlds dotted around the IS, but is porn legal in the Great Houses? Is there some galactic moratorium on porn (and gambling, and drugs, and cage fights) that makes Canopus particularly attractive to people living elsewhere? I know a lot of the fluff was written back in the 80s and early 90s, when porn was still considered "taboo" - something your uncle bought in a seedy shop in the bad side of town - rather than just something you pulled up on the internet before you went to bed, but it still seems weird that in a vast space frontier of quasi-Dark Ages planetary societies, most of which have been semi-isolated from one another for centuries, Canopus would be treated as the odd one out.
Also, that was another thing which rubbed me wrong about the HBS game: Canopus is one of the major players in the storyline, yet you get basically NO flavour from it. The only thing they really bother to tell you is that the Magistracy is run by feminists - but they leave out that it's run by sex-positive, ultra-libertarian feminists who've turned 80% of their economy into Space Las Vegas.
Like how HBS only ever mentions religion once, despite religion being a major element the setting (and that one mention was just Space Islam, not Christianity), and how they never show Mechwarriors wearing nothing but their underwear, because Mech cockpits get too hot for clothes (it's a real thing! It's in the fluff!). It's as if HBS deliberately decided to excise everything even remotely "controversial" from the Battletech Universe except black Polish trannies with they/them pronouns.
