Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Yes, diverse as in ‘Japs in this part, Chinese in that part, Germans in that part’ not necessarily the ‘multicultural society free from hate’ we see in HBS BT.
Sure, there are minorities in each of the successor states, but HBS seems to have made minorities the majority for some reason. You go to the hiring hall on Tharkad and it’s 100% black and 80% women and you just have to wonder.
Lorewise the Periphery states are actually pretty close to the "we like you all" mindset. BUT the Periphery also requires that everyone does their part. For example the Magistracy the only matriachry in the BT universe (and ironically the biggest producer of porn) offers you citizenship when you can proove that you are persecuted somewhere else. But you also have to do something for the Magistracy as a whole which most likely means joining the military or the civil corps. Also the Outworlds Alliance is a nation with a huge Islam population (I think Islam might be the biggest religious group there) but it also has huge roving groups of Jewish traders.

So i got my hands on the Audiobook on Decision at Thunder Rift and I am actually quiet enjoying it, going to finish this saga hopefully before Tex's audiobook on Blood of Kerensky comes out.

So don't usually double post unless its warranted, but if you haven't heard Roguetech pulled the online portion of there mod and well the pictures im posting better explains it.

So... instead of going after the person who supposedly made the remark, they're just giving everyone the middle finger because someone's feelings allegedly got hurt?
Sounds like there might have been more going on but they're using that as an excuse.

Such a lame excuse, too. I was expecting the team losing their minds at some edgy boys LARPing as Space Nazis or Space Rhodesians, not just hurt fee-fees.

Hopefully they'll get rid of the file integrity check bullshit now that they don't have an online component. I assume they added it to prevent online players from cheating.

RogueTech stutters like mad on my machine due to the ridiculous amount of logging they have enabled by default. If you try to disable any of it in the config files, the launcher reverts any edits made every time you launch the game. It also prevents you from fine-tuning mod settings to your preference. DRM like that in a video game mod is just obnoxious, especially since I only play offline mode.

If you use ProcessMonitor to track what the launcher does it's fairly easy to figure out how to disable the check, though.

Did someone play as Amos Forlough and couldn't take it that someone used an insult that exactly described him? I never actually played this mod or even heard of this Online server but still. That's a bit harsh. Sepecially if you consider that a lot of player would somehow act shitty in a RP scenario.

Doesn't sound like an excuse to drop the online thingy, more like the straw that broke the camel's back. You don't pull the plug on something like this out of the blue and you don't pull the plug when it's an individual person that did something fucked up.

This looks more like the whole thing had systemic issues that grew bigger and bigger and instead of trying to tardwrangle a community with a bunch of idiots inside, they called it quits and made it invite only. Sounds reasonable to me to be honest.

Disclaimer: I have never played Roguetech and I frankly don't intend to.

Still sad, the concept was pretty neat and the RP shit sounded a blast.

Too bad the mod is beyond poorly optimized for any sort of PC rig. Besides the most hardcore BT fans with the best PC rig I think they just ended there own mod by doing this.

The base game is poorly optimized as it is. Any mods working on top of it would be basically hopeless.

I tried with even the most vanilla of the big three content mods, the one that allows for campaign play, and it did not like running. I cannot imagine RogueTech. Say what you will about MW5, but even with an outdated PC I can get it running 60 FPS with medium quality and a bunch of mods.

Speaking of MW5, have you guys seen this?

Haven't had the time to give it a try yet (had to uninstall a bunch of games in order to open space for a huge temporary file), but this look interesting at least.

I've seen it around, heard good things about it in various places. Not sure how well it plays with other mods though due to its changes. But if that's not a concern of yours, give it a shot.

Finished the battletech game. While it was a better experience than MW5 man that story sucked. Kind of surprised a sequel hasn't come out though. It should be a easy mark to just go the MW2 route and make it a Jade Falcon/Wolf centered story set during the clan invasion.

BTA3062 runs pretty well considering the sheer volume of stuff crammed into it. Also massively improves the overall game without ubersperging like RogueTech.

I've been dabbling in it. Probably going to be doing a tank only game.

Tough Choices.jpg

Well, I think we can all agree that's the best choice you can make.

Yeah, but again, running well is relative. Looking back I think what made me actually quit was a stupid-ass convoy raid I took where I had to chase down a motorized convoy faster than my mechs, and with a headstart, and fight past their light mech escorts. All before I had even gotten the Argo. That and the insane space the CAB took up.

The horrifying irony of it all is that BattleTech has always been a very diverse game, lore-wise. There were a lot of different ethnicities on display, and both male and female characters doing a lot of shit both good and bad (hello, Katherine Steiner, Sharilar Mori and Natasha Kerensky, just to name a few...).

Sure, none of the Successor Houses are headed by a family of coal-black Africans but... it's probably for the best, considering how much every house has to play the role of asshole. It's easy to have the Kurita and Liao being utter bastards, no one cares about unflattering depictions of Asians these days no matter what the #stopasianhate crowd says. Imagine if House Khartoum, head of the Sudan Association, had to pull off shit like even the Davions do on occasion? Wars of aggression, underhanded tactics, sabotage, body doubles... we'd be hearing the twitter brigade's rage all the way out to Strana Mechty.
Without diving too deep into minute/obscure pieces of Battletech lore, "everyone" was pretty well represented already without HBS trying to cram every ethnicity but white into 1 ship.

  • Lyran Commonwealth: German, Irish, Scottish, Pakistani.
  • Draconis Combine: Japanese, Swedish
[*] Azami Worlds: North African Muslims.
  • Federated Suns: English, French
    [*]United Hindu Collective: Indian.
  • Taurian Concordat: English, Spanish, French.
  • Capellan Confedeastion: Chinese, Russian, SCUM!
  • Magistracy of Canopus: Cultural melting pot where everyone looks ambiguously ethnic-ish
  • Free Worlds League: Literally everyone the other states didn't want.
[*] Southwest Trinity Worlds: Dpace New Mexicans.
  • Nueva Castille: Spaniards.
  • Umayyad Caliphate: Umayyad Caliphate...in space.
  • Khwarazm Empire: Space Persians?

The only persistant forms of discrimination are:
  • Lyrans hate poor people.
  • Dracs hate those who lack honor.
  • Free Worlders hate cyborgs.
  • Canopians "hate" men.
  • Everyone hates Capellans.
  • Comstar fucks toasters. My cousin heard it from his bestfriends sisters brother in-law, so it's pretty reliable.

I never understood how the battletech setting had a weeb like myself hate both Asian factions. Those two groups are such dumpster fires.
