I have come forward to ask a very heretical question:
The 2D6 are easily replaced with a D12. Any experience with that? Yay or nay?
Here's a comparison of probability curves:
Assuming a Gunnery of 4, minor penalties for movement for target and shooter and medium range, you end up at a to-hit value of 8, which is incidently where both D12 and 2D6 have a chance of 41,67% for rolling that number or higher.
The chance of rolling a 12 is 2,78% with 2D6 and 8,33% with a D12, so it's easier to get a hit even at higher to-hit numbers, while the 2D6 heavily favors numbers between 5 and 8, making hits at a to-hit above 8 harder and harder with every additional penalty.
I feel high to-hit numbers feel somewhat too hard to roll, so I was wondering if switching dice out for a single D12 would do the trick. Would also streamline shooting phases, since you can then literally just throw a fistful of color-coded D12 and sort them by result...
I'm fine with 2D6 for hit locations, though. Crits and Headshots should be rare.
