Battletoads 2020 - Chug my dumptruck you stinky wimps, BEEP BEEP, GARBAGE BUTT BACKING U-U-U-UP!

I just want to say Chug my Dumptruck" and "Garbage Butt backing Up" sound like incomplete insults.
She already said "suck my frigging butt" which they should have axed and reworded it so it would read "SUCK MY DUMPTRUCK BUTT" because you're at least identifying the body part since Dumptruck by itself is not a proper description. "Garbage Butt Backing up" sounds like something the Battle toads would say to her with another one going BEEP BEEP imitating the noises. Saying it in reference to herself sounds just really awkward. Having three butt related phrases in a row also is very redundant, Mike Judge had this as a rule in Beavis and Butthead where they explicitly would switch up toilet humor so it didn't come off as redundant, so they never put 3 butt or dick jokes/references in a row and would mix it up with boobs or vaginas. Even with Cornholio who had one catchphrase of needing TP for his Bunghole did not reference his bunghole more than twice before you had a break between the first two and the third time he says it.
Also is it that fucking hard to throw in some sort of racial slur in so her anger sounds genuine? Like geeze Battletoads are just a few steps removed from Orks/Orcs look up a Warhammer compendium or old school Warcraft and try to find a word.

Well, no, but curiosity got the best of me and I did find this.
She at least looks like a villain and not somebody's aunt in a Harry Potter cosplay.
Also, the art on the official redesign just looks...messy to me. It looks like fan art. Her face looks fucked up, especially.

Seriously, toilet humor has been around in media since the 80s made it okay, but what is up with the increased scatological shit in media being presented not as being funny but as something cool and edgy that characters aren't ashamed of? Even the fucking Garbage Pail Kids movie had the disgusting ginger kid be ashamed of his peeing antics. Even Ace Ventura did talking butt jokes with more class than this. Now they're just crapping and pissing themselves with pride.

It seems that the game is aimed at a broader audience including children age 12+. The art style is something you see in a childrens cartoon. Since Dark Queen looks like a bdsm whore they changed her design to be more family friendly.

The whole enjoyment of Beat Em Ups is that they're simple mechanics wise and very replayable. Plotting is supposed to be very minimal.. Shoving in a whole fucking cartoon into a Battletoads video game shows that the studio behind this game didn't understand what the hell they were making.

I was watching a friend play this game a while ago and surprisingly a few scenes made us laugh. Not like a "shit this is bad" kinda laugh a ""damn that was unexpectedly entertaining" kind of deal. Luckily I found an upload of a good one so I don't have to timestamp the thing in the longass video of all the cutscenes thats out there.
Gotta say I feel the need to be punched through the brain finding out most of the talk about the game online is the scat shit instead of the actually smooth looking frame by frame animation of the gameplay that isn't the nutshack-esque animation level cutscenes.
I still have no clue why they changed the dark queens design again after the initial trailer and made her have fucking HANDIA proportions of all things rather than just spud head proportions. Maybe it was to try and spite the people upset about the spud head, meaybe it's the fact they realized the redesign didn't exactly fit the aesthetic of the rest of the game and tried to make it fit better. The fact they gave her a visibly shapely ass compared to the initial trailer where there's just nothing there makes me think it might be the latter, though there might be some of the former there too.
The game's humor feels a lot less battletoads and more earthworm jim in terms of vibes. There's hits and misses but overall from what I've seen it's not the worst thing ever. I'm glad they just kept with the space defender mercenary toad aliens background instead of the weird "kids become toads" one that was in the TV show pilot. Ironically, some of the shit in this game, as people have said before FEELS like a TV show Pilot rather than a video game.
I'm guessing the response to this game is probably gonna end up becoming just an insufferable "battletoads was never good" type of narrative from people that never played the original games. I've already seen the beginnings of that in several places, this thread included. Shit sucks because the original games are actually all really fun. I actually bought some used a few years back and tried them for myself.
Those projectile enemies in this new game can go fuck themselves though for real. I haven't even played this thing and just watching my friend deal with that shit I could feel his pain. WHo the fuck's bright Idea was it to take a game where all the combat is focused on left/right hitboxes and you just make all projectile enemies just lock onto the player character no matter where they are, causing un-counterable and in some cases unavoidable DIAGONAL attacks?

I'd think this game would've done better if they ditched the plot. Yeah it's a generic good vs bad story, but it's better than "clever" self aware humor.

Let's go over the target audience and see how that holds up.
- Children. They have no knowledge of the source material. They might like the scat humour and simplistic gameplay? But then I'd argue they did a piss poor job over all since it's not a "kids game" story, but it also doesn't treat them with respect like Gargoyles, Batman Beyond, and other classic cartoons. That also makes the scat references all the more suspect, and it doesn't explain the scenes where the Battletoads know the Dark Queen or reference old fans being entitled. I'll give them a maybe.
- Teens, young adults, and adults with no nostalgia for the games. No nostalgia for the old games. Aren't going to be entertained by scat "jokes" without any kind of wit or cleverness. So fail.
- Adults who remember the original game. They're going to hate seeing a childhood favourite ruined. So another fail.
- Tumblr SJWs. Desexualised Dark Queen, insults old fans, calarts art style, resembles the originals in superficial ways. Check, check, check, and check. All it needs is "representation" to complete the woke bingo card.

Just think if they hired people who cared about the series they could have had something on par with Sonic Mania.
Sonic Mania had new fully original animated sequences, kept the original gameplay and art style of the originals, had both physical and digital releases, and quickly became a beloved classic.
It even included the & Knuckles meme ending if you used the secret codes. So it's like it had all the bases covered and it was a good game.
