Berserk Series Discussion - RIP Kentaro Miura

Well since Miura takes a very long time to release chapters. I bet we will see Griffiths new Kingdom and i hope not for too long.
I wanna see this damn island guts and co. are sailing to.

I'm guessing at least a volume or two in the kingdom, and then HOPEFULLY we'll see Elfheim finally.

Right. So a bit more of Falconia and some other shit. Anyone want to guess why Miura wasted a few chapters for some boyhood flashback with Guts and the fairy? I think it may have to do with something coming up in Elfheim.

Also this thread should be in Multimedia. The Berserk series is not a video game. I have no idea why it's here.

hey sorry to bump the thread, but i've been really getting into the berserk series. i heared that Miura is releasing the chapters at a slow pace, almost 4-8 months for a new chapter to come. but i'm enjoying the series.

so casca's memory and mind have finally been restored but when she looks at and talks with guts, she starts remembering and reeling from the traumatic experience she went through when the eclipse happened, watching her friends die and getting raped by Griffith/Femto.

if anyone is interested. some guy uploaded all 27 episodes of the engllish dub of the 1997 anime of berserk to youtube.

you can ask a mod to have this thread moved to multimedia, or you can keep it here to talk about the berserk games like the warriors game Berserk and the Band of the Hawk and those other berserk games for the dreamcast and the DS and make a new one in multimedia. whatever works for you

Since this thread is in the Games subsection, I thought this was what the thread was gonna be about. Feel free to imagine my confusion and disappointment.

I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard some recommendations since I do like Goblin Slayer. I've heard the two series are pretty similar, and that one character in GS is practically inspired by the protagonist in Berserk.

People are complaining about Duranki, in that it's taking attention away from Berserk, and while I don't care for the story, what they fail to understand is that the series is an exercise for Miura's assistants, so he can rely on them more and more to MAKE Berserk faster.

Hating it and getting on his case about it is only having the opposite effect of what you want, you spergs. (Not you guys here, just them)

That moment when you realize that the best adaptation of the series aside from the 97 anime is a PS2 game that was never released in the west

That game is still a sore spot for me. We got the two most mediocre games and not the best one.

I emulated that when I got my gaming PC and I loved it. I almost threw away 200+ dollars for a modded PS2 JUST to play that one game again on my TV with a controller.

Fucking Sony.

There’s a fan-translated ISO out there. It’s well worth the download and getting a FreeMCBoot memory card bought or made to play.

Sony had ZERO to do with it not coming over. The show wasn’t licensed yet when the Dreamcast game got localized, and the rights holders for the show didn’t include video game rights, and the publisher of the Japanese release of the PS2 game weren’t willing to license it out and had no North American or European branch.

They still won't re-release it now though.
The Japanese publisher went under, so the game is in limbo. Sony wouldn’t be able to get it re-released. Shuhei Yoshida tried to get the Shadow Hearts trilogy released as PS2 on PS4 a few years back, and the Japanese and American publishers, as well as the developer, have all gone out of business after bankruptcies and it made it impossible to even find out who might have any rights to it now.

Bumpin' up the thread. A few years ago I finally sat down and finally watched all of berserk 97' and 2016 ( yea don't get me started ). Only stared gettin' real into it this year when I bought the delux edition of the manga when it was on sale. I can say this is the only manga I can watch/read over and over again without getting tired of it besides Dorohedoro. I've official joined the other struggler's in the hope I'll live long enough to see the end of the manga.

Also going to leave this here:

Rewatching the 97 series and Im at the point right before the rematch between Guts and Griffith. So what are your all's thoughts on the omissions made by the anime?

The '97 anime did what it could. It obviously had a limited budget and not nearly enough time or free license to leave in all the explicit stuff from the manga. It's the best anime adaptation imo, even if it's just the first half. I actually saw it before I even read the manga and it hooked me in just fine. Yeah, it sucks that it's not fully fleshed out but it's solid for what it is.

The movies are when shit starts to go downhill. They're sometimes pretty to look at and I'm happy they got the old dub cast back but they're very rushed and not nearly as gratifying. It only really starts to find its footing around the third film.

And the less said about CLANG!: The Series, the better. I'll never forgive them for omitting the Lost Children Arc.

Funnily enough, the movies were my introduction to Berserk. I knew vaguely what it was and I kept hearing good things about it. Plus they were on Netflix and at the time it was the most accessible Berserk media to me.

The first two are rough, especially the CGI that sometimes just looked like PS2-era FMVs. That and even I could sense they were condensing a shitload of material for the sake of fitting it into three movies. That said, I enjoyed the characters. I immediately got attached to Guts and the movies did a fine job showcasing his relationship with Griffith and the rest of the Band.

The third movie though I thought was amazing. For all the trilogy's faults, the third movie stuck the landing for the Eclipse, which was emotionally devastating in a way I just wasn't expecting. I went into Berserk expecting extreme violence, and I got that, I just wasn't expecting that level of tragedy. The climax of the third movie was the moment I fell in love with the series, which in turn inspired me to start reading the manga (which I've slowly been getting through but it's incredible, and I don't doubt all the added details will make the Eclipse hit that much harder).

The movies are okay as entry points if you want to dip your toes into Berserk, but I do understand why fans wouldn't like them as much considering how much they had to condense to fit into three movies.
