Berserk Series Discussion - RIP Kentaro Miura

People rightfully praise Miura for his art, but he gets too little praise for his writing. This was a guy who had a strong understanding of storytelling fundamentals. It takes real skill to handle a big cast of characters (as he did in the Golden Age arc, for example) and to get the audience attached to them.

Think about the gut punch that is the eclipse and how unexpectedly you react to the deaths of even a character like Corkus. On paper, you should dislike, if not despise, him. But still, when that final scene comes... it just makes you sad.

Rest in peace Miura. Berserk had some of the biggest impacts on my life more than any other media I have consumed. His writing and art is invaluable really. This is so sad but I'm glad he's able to idolmaster in heaven now. Jokes aside, it seemed like he's had health issues and overworked himself so much. The hiatuses were frustrating but ultimately worth it to see bits of the story come out. What a fucking legend, I feel lucky to have found Berserk when I did and I'm glad he left behind something so amazing for people to read.

Fellow Berserk Spergs come here.

So any of you guys want to speculate the future in Berserk? Like what the future new releases may yield out?
Hopefully none. We let it die with Miura. Keep it unfinished. That's the only way we dont get a shitty ending. Make up your own head canon ending and remember the good times. Thread theme

Clownfish TV committed suicide in one of their worse videos in history about how Japanese people work harder to release manga than American comic artists because......

A Japanese man died of a heart burst?

Yeah, I'll wait for 4Chan to pick this up.
To be fair. The Japanese Mangaka work ethic is legendary with how much they overwork themselves. Kinda fucked but here in the US it is the exact opposite.

mmhmm at least Americans have laws to prevent overworking. Just Japan is way behind.
Overworking is bad, yes, but a lot of media unions (Actors/Writers/Artists guilds) treat expecting regular releases and/or production schedules like slave-driving. Crunch is treated as pure evil, which makes it easier for workers to dick around and push back releases instead of ever putting their noses to the grindstone. Miura working himself to death is tragic, but it still shows more resolve than a lot of his western counterparts.

I’ll never forget the time when the 2016 CGI series of Berserk was hilariously criticized online, and yet I still don’t remember the same people actually taking time out of their day to watch the original 1997 version of the anime.

Either way, just like Evangelion and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure before it, the 1997 Berserk series should be up there as the best anime to come out of the 90’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if it weren’t up there in popularity now since Dr. Miura passed on.

The outtakes are something I’ve watched multiple times. Every cast member had so much fun dubbing it.
