Biggest bullshit in a video game

Well, after four or so hours of grinding and save scumming (playing the NSO version), I finally got the Sword of Kings in Earthbound.

Poo's guaranteed to have a full equipment list, I didn't over-level too much (I'm at level 73 now), and I can finally move on.

I'm not going to bother grinding for the other 1/128 items as there's even more RNG bullshit involved.

The 'fight you're supposed to lose' bit reminds me of the early fun you could have in Nipton in Fallout New Vegas. You're supposed to talk to the Legion fucker there and listen to his spiel about degenerates and whatnot.

Or, you can just lay down some land mines and try to kill him and his little crew, which is very satisfying (if difficult, since that early on you probably don't have good skills or gear).
You can cheese this if you somehow have 70 speech before Nipton. Use terrifying presence on Vulpes when he forces you into dialogue and when he starts fleeing kill him and the other legionaries won't react or turn hostile.

*this is possibly a bug so if you're using the unofficial patch or any other bug fix mods your result may vary.

I don't think it's a bug. I've pulled that off before, and his reaction seems tailor-made for the situation.
The encounter with Vulpes in Nipton is interesting in that it has several checks for other things, like if you're already in good standing with the Legion or if you've met him in The Strip, before going back and activating it.

World at War on Veteran difficulty. Apparently, the Japanese and Nazis have heat seeking vision and infinite grenades.

Don't even get me started on Heart of the Reich.

Big open area, limited cover, swarm of enemies, scarce checkpoints, and the grenades...

Who programmed that difficulty?

Speaking of which, Final Fantasy VI has a situation near the end where you have to choose between forging the Ragnarok into a sword, or an esper. Choosing the sword gives you the second best sword in the game, which can be wagered in the colosseum towards the Illumina, the best weapon in the game, and that's the only way to obtain it. But you'll miss out on the esper, you'll have a slot missing, and it's the only esper to teach Ultima. Choosing the esper makes the top two swords in the game completely inaccessible. Sort of a strange design decision for FFVI, a game that otherwise gives you just about everything and lets you turn almost any character into a ridiculous killing machine.
Ultima is the way to go. Then farm economizers.
Genji Glove + Offering and Ultima Weapon + [can't remember] was THE op sword technique for me.
Plus, as Earthbound (Mother 2) tanked in the US, Nintendo probably felt it did not want to take the same chance on the series outside of Japan again, particularly as Mother 3 was released on the Gameboy Advance as the system was nearing the end of its lifespan as the Nintendo DS was on its way.

Nintendo probably assumes that the people that are clamoring for a stateside Mother 3 release are just a niche market of fanboys which are insignificant in the grand scheme of players as they probably feel that zoomers, their current target demographic, do not even know or care what Earthbound or Mother 3 are.

Now, it is these sorts of attitudes made by companies that result in them shooting themselves in the foot, yet they do it all the time.
I think there's more people that really, really like Earthbound than there are people that have played Earthbound so the customer base might not actually be there. That's the problem with fandoms.

Funny story, I managed to get Paula's best ribbon from the third Ghost of Starman in Earthbound's final dungeon.

Wasn't even trying to grind for it like I did with the Sword of Kings, the RNG in that game is kinda asinine.
the Skate Punk at the beginning of the game has the same odds as the Sword of Kings to drop a pizza, and I've gotten that several times without trying

Switching to Trevor in GTA V and realising he is on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere and it's going to take you 5 minutest just to get to the nearest road to get a vehicle and then trek to the mission marker.

It was funny the first time you switch to him and he is drunk naked in the middle of nowhere, not so funny when it keeps happening and you just want to get to the fucking mission.

I mentioned this in the what are you playing thread but it was just so god awful i had to bring it up here; I'm trying out the avenger's game FREE thanks to gamepass, and almost as soon i started the game there was this "arachnophobia sensitivity warning on the startup screen, how sad is it that I couldn't tell if a "sensitivity warning" on the startup screen is meant to be a joke or if the devs at square were serious about it? Like they legit think people playing video games are so overly sensitive they have to be given "trigger warnings" as if this was fucking twitter? (or berkley college)

You mean it's not normal for multiple grenade indicators to be on screen constantly?

Nah Konami were justified. Metal Gear Solid V was already running hideously over budget and missing deadlines and suddenly they discover he's been working on another game on the sly as well? Kojima absolutely deserved to get cast aside. I've said this before but eventually Kojima Studios is going to run into a brick wall and Kojima is going to start working on something else because it's more 'fun' and ending up killing the studio by spreading resources too thin.
It's hilarious to think that MGSV's production was such a shitshow that it basically made Konami shy away from ever making games again. Thanks Kojima! :stress:

Drakengard 3 and its true ending very definitely final boss you get on the 3rd (I think?) playthrough is actually just trying to fuck with you.

Its a hack n slash game, but the final challenge is... the most absurd bullshit rhythym game ever devised. Basically these rings travel out from these moving statue bitches with sound queues and you have to hit those a few seconds later when they reach you. The camera is panning all over the fucking place to really throw you off and at certain points the rings are completely offscreen just to fuck with you some more. There is zero margin for error, you need to hit every ring. As a final fuck you, the screen fades out, leading you to think youre totally done for several seconds, then sounds off a final ring to hit totally blind.

In Onimusha 1 and 2, the R3 button open your map. L2 and L3 buttons do nothing.

In Onimusha 3 if you want to read your map, you need to open your menu, scroll down to map, then select the map you want. We know you want to see the one you're currently in, but you still need to select it. If you don't have it, we won't even show you the room you're currently in (as opposed to the previous games).

Also now R3 is used for transforming. Not only is this stupid because L2 and L3 still do jackshit and could have been used instead, but it's fucking retarded because muscle memory is going to make you waste your transformation when you want to open your map. Seriously how do you mess this up for fuck sake?

So, the E ending from the first Drakengard, only worse?
Sounds about right.

Not allowing players to remap buttons to whatever the fuck they want should be a crime. It's Current Year, software doesn't have to be hardwired to hardware like that. Doing so is a choice.

Apparently the only way to beat it.

Was using aim assist every 2 seconds and running to the next checkpoint.

Once you get to the next checkpoint, your allies catch up.

I have heard COD4 is worse but COD MW2 Veteran mode was a breeze compared to WaW.

Treyarch fixed some of the insanity in Black Ops 1 but the hardest level is the tunnel sequence and one other part of a level as well iirc.
