Biggest bullshit in a video game

I don't understand why anyone would use melee combat in GTA though unless you're just messing with unarmed pedestrians.

Was it ever actually a requirement in the 3D era games? Even when that Triad dude challenges you to a sword duel in San Andreas, you can just shotgun his ass.

System Shock 2.

Played the original patched retail from the original Home of The Underdogs back in the day. It says a LOT about how good the core gameplay was that SS2 still has a big cult following despite:

  1. Some of the permanent upgrades (you only get 4 per game) are worthless.
  2. A couple of the Psi-Powers are duplicates, and some are useless.
  3. The 3D models for the NPC's look like ASS because the decision was made to ship SS2 to work on video cards with 4 MB VRAM. Not a typo.
  4. The final 1/5th of the game has no automap & a rapidly noticeable decline in map quality, because the game was rushed to shipping.
  5. The final boss is a lame-ass cage fight and the ending cinematic is a facedesk-inducingly lame sequel hook.

The Capcom Arcade Stadium version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts adds in 4 times the checkpoints and it completely ruins the difficulty. Sometime you will die before a checkpoint and it will push you ahead of the checkpoint. Without the added checkpoints Ghouls 'n Ghosts is still the easiest Makaimura game so I really don't get the point.

Apparently the latest FIFA and soon to be the last in the series.

Doesn't have Brazil as a regular playable team lol, outside of one major DLC that was added later on.

The most important team in all of soccer, not playable though they blame it on licensing issues.

When in previous FIFAs when the Netherlands wasn't licensed, they set up some Dutch team with fake names that loosely resembled players on the roster.

I think it depends on the rom version and/or region. It might have fewer checkpoints if you switch to the Japanese version.

I wish that was the problem. The Japanese version has only one check point in the middle of the stage. The US version in addition has one right before the boss. The stadium version adds many more than that. Four times was probably an exaggeration, but it's more than enough to not want to play.

cbf to check but I really doubt they actually personally bothered to hack the rom to add in checkpoints just for stadium. They might have used a weird nonstandard revision or something - they made some other snafus with stadium along those lines. Anyway, what I meant is that stadium itself includes a JP rom, did you try that?

I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Switching to the Japanese version fixed the problem. I hadn't realized you could switch to the Japanese release.

Insane crafting requirements, the idea of crafting/upgrading should be an organic way for the player to have his weapons upgraded for new zone after showing mastery of the previous zone. Wanting the player to get dozens of drops is just padding.

Secondly, having no way to use superior crafting materials as substitute for their low level counterparts. It's just forcing the player to go back to grind and can cause the player to be locked out of items if the game doesn't allow to fight the same type of enemies again.
Know what game was a step in the right direction for upgrades? Dragons Dogma, see if you had the materials to upgrade say two or three ranks but not the materials for the previous upgrades it wasn't a no problem because the game would let you bypass those previous ranks free of charge.

The only time when J was using melee in a game somewhat similar to GTA was when I played Postal 2 at the harder difficulties: some melee weapons like the axe or scissors are pretty much a one hit kill and bullets are scarce when everybody wants you dead, with the only alternative (albeit dangerous) being fire, but eventually I had to made a run to Tora Bora shortly after getting my hand on a few bullets and explosives, so that I could get my hand on the machete as early as possible, solely for the boomerang throw attack.
