Lolcow Bill Norton Olsen Code Red DVD - Plus David DeFalco Dark Force Entertainment.

Latest Dark Force live stream. Not a whole lot going on TBQH, DeFalco does flex and zoom in on his legs while challenging a troll to a fight. Then claims he beat someone down last week with Bill (Banana Man) as a witness. At one point he shows Bill's phone number (nice). All while showing off his expensive West Hollywood apartment and his various decorations:

dark force dog.JPG

That apartment goes for about 5-10 grand per month. That and his purple Lamborghini purchase reaffirms my theory that Defalco has a rich family. Bill is a little bit more understandable here so it appears he's doing better? But essentially he's Defalco's lackey now.

fangs.JPG

Defalco claims his release of Fangs is his "nuclear option" and believes it's going to be a big hit. TBQH, I heard practically nothing about this flick so I remain doubtful. There's more of a cult following for a similar movie called Killer Snakes released by the Shaw Bros. It's the same exact Willard ripoff but with snakes instead of rats and that one is actually pretty good.

Around 22 minutes in, Defalco takes the bait and brings up the Diabolik DVD situation and refers to it as "the label wars." For anyone new to the thread: Defalco and Bill have a very "us versus them" mentality regarding every other DVD/Blu label, specifically; Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, and Synapse films.

that shit isn't so cool when you barely have any fucking furniture
Also the label wars shit is completely retarded. Even in the restoration industry, I'm pretty sure Arrow, Criterion, Kino Lorber, Shout Factory, are all on good terms with each other. It's just as retarded as the console wars.

There was never any bad blood between labels before Code Red existed. I can say that pretty definitively. It's just being professional. I have no idea if Bill has trash talked John Sirabella of Media Blasters but he probably has.

Trivia: Code Red got started as a spin off of Media Blasters' Shriek Show line of horror/exploitation DVD's. Their first release was the 70's necrophile flick Love Me Deadly and some shit was going on behind the scenes because the release was delayed a few times. I think they got to a 2nd release with Don't Go in the Woods and Code Red later re-released it independently. I could be wrong regarding that one. Which weirdly enough this happened with Defalco teaming up with Bill and the creation of Dark Force entertainment (BTW, in the latest livestream Defalco confesses that he worships dark forces...).

Regarding label wars: I had to go back and did as much research as I could because I remember this spat pretty well but the SOBS involved have done a very, very good job burying the drama that they created.

This is going very far back so forgive my 2nd hand recollections.

Back in the day, the very early years of DVD, there was very little drama with labels but with bootleggers it was somewhat common. It mostly consisted bootleg labels like Blackest Heart Media or Video Search of Miami trash talking each other by saying "My copy of Grapes of Death is uncut!" or "My copy is clear and has subtitles!" that kind of back and forth. Enter Midnight Video ran by Bill Knight. Bill was a particular sort and charged out the ass for his bootlegs. He would charge $30 a piece per tape and always tout the superior quality of his wares compared to the competition.

Bill Knight had all kinds of connections with the DVD/Laserdisc makers and had always strived to be a player among them. His closest ally was Dolph (short for Adolph, and yes, his real name is actually Adolph) Chiriano. Dolph is one of those guys that fanboyed way too hard over these movies and via connections and going to conventions climbed the ladder to assist John Sirabella of Media Blasters in releasing several movies. John hit it big with Media Blasters by releasing more lower tier anime and lucked out by hitting it big with releases of Berserk, Kite and later he got into Hentai by releasing Bible Black. So John decided to dabble in releasing older horror/exploitation films including a huge chunk of the Eyetalian catalog. It just so happens that the Italians made shitloads of these kind of movies in the 70's and 80's. John hires Dolph to oversee the release of several titles like 2019: After the Fall of New York and Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals. Dolph is known for being abrasive and not really having a filter. The release of After the Fall of New York had a commentary with actor Michael Sopkiw with Dolph acting as moderator. Dolph said a lot of inflammatory things and casually insulted various people in the business such as writer/critic Tim Lucas of Video Watchdog fame.

Bill made it a point to highlight every little change made to official releases of these movies on his site:

Mostly as a "fuck you" to the people behind these release and also to peddle his wares "Buy the superior Midnight Video release!"

Dolph was fired by John Sirabella and re-releases of the movies he worked on that had his commentary had the commentary removed. I want to say those release are rare and have value but I have no idea. Bill decides to host an essay-long rant on his site written by Dolph that insults just about every fucking person in the business. Especially his ex-employer John Sirabella but it also took aim at Don May Jr of Synapse films and various other critics including Tim Lucas and Troy Howarth (you may know that guy for doing commentaries for almost every Italian/Euro horror/exploitation flick on Blu these days). The rant got so much attention that Don May contacted Bill's provider and threatened to sic his lawyer on him to take the rant down. The rant was completely unhinged, funny and massively autistic. Dolph went down a list, insulting people, and ending each invective with "Take a knife and fucking kill yourself!" I think Bill Knight edited Archive.org pages to eliminate the rant because I'll be damned if I can find it, sad to say.

As an aside, and this goes back to Bill Olsen, Bill had some things to say about John;

The aftermath is that Dolph burned every bridge in the business and was never hired by anyone else. Bill Knight raised the middle finger to everyone and closed up Midnight Video but not before selling off his master tapes for insanely exorbitant prices even back in 2008 before the hipster boom of VHS tapes took off. We're talking over $100 for the Vestron tape of House on the Edge of the Park when I know for a god damn fact that at the time you could buy that tape for around $10-20 with shipping. Of course, NOW the tape is worth $100 on Ebay, so egg on my face.

Then silence...

2010. Bill Knight joins forces with Dolph Chiriano and releases one of the very first Blu-ray's of a cult movie. And that movie is Alien 2: on Earth AKA Alien Terror, an Eyetalian Alien ripoff as only the Italians can pull off.

91tYcGmjbuL._SY445_.jpg

Hats off to them because they went all in and pressed 50 thousand copies of this disk. The disk also cost about $40 as well. Not counting shipping. I bet you can see where this story is going. The disc flops even when they timed the release to coincide with Fox's big Alien franchise box set. No one supported Dolph and Bill Knight especially the critics they insulted. If anyone did want to support them they sure as hell didn't come out for fear of ruining their contacts. The pair wanted to release Ruggero Deodato's Raiders of Atlantis as their next release but it obviously never happened. The two then fucked off forever, Alien 2 has since been re-released on Blu and (luckily) Raiders of Atlantis was more recently released on Blu thanks to Severin.

Moral of the story is don't burn bridges. Also, don't press 50 thousand copies of a very niche movie and charge almost $50 with shipping. Edit: in case you were curious, this was Blu-ray only. This was not a Blu/DVD combo release and this is post-2008 2nd great depression so there weren't a ton of early adopters of Blu-ray especially for the cult movie scene. Blu-ray took off around 2015 for cult films.

Another edit: Bill Knight and Dolph used to post in the Blu-Ray.com forum here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=154874

It's a very dick sucky forum as I warned in the OP post but what's interesting is that it was reveled that 30 thousand copies may have been printed. But if 30K were printed then they're not common on Ebay. The Midnight Legacy copy of Alien 2 goes for about $50 on Ebay. It's likely that they printed somewhere around 1K copies with a promise to go up to 30K. But, the release bombed so badly they couldn't even get rid of 1K copies.

You can follow Dolph's profile here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/search.php?searchid=57988903 where he's up to the same old BS with him trash talking John Sirabella again. To be fair, those Blu's of Buio Omega and Zombi Holocaust put out by Media Blasters did have tons of issues and were hasty upconverts before John lost the rights to those movies, so it's a case of a broken clock being right twice a day.

DeFalco threateningly points knives at the camera and play acts as an executioner.

DeFalco reveals Bill is back in the hospital and has been for the past 2 weeks.

Here's a drinking game challenge for you: take a shot every time DeFalco flexes for the camera and every time he threatens to wrestle people. You will get shitfaced halfway through these streams.

He then challenges another person to a Hell in a Cell match and offers up the entire Code Red/Scorpion/Dark Forces catalogue as a reward. DeFalco then flaunts the keys to his Lamborghini.

DeFalco is threatening to direct another film.

The rest of the stream is DeFalco threatening to fight the trolls and watching one of the movies he's putting out.

Bruno summed up a lot of the history with some of these labels, very well.

I will just add, that one of those DVDs that had commentary removed, one in my mind, could have been two DVDs. Pretty sure it was just 1 DVD. But, from what I recall, it dragged the old site and forum, "DVDManiacs" into it, and they wanted to distance their site from the commentary also, since it was referenced in the commentary, from what I recall. That was a bit of a mess, but, got settled down rather quick, and forgotten about.

Code Red is it's own monster, though, but, I can appreciate many of their releases. I mean, Shakma, on Blu-ray? Well, thanks Twilight Time and Code Red!

I will add to this thread, i recall when Bill brought Maria Kanellis, some, "Professional Wrestling" woman onto some titles, to do hosting. Myself, I didn't give a shit, whatever, I'd see how it went. Bill had already invited the trolls, though, and they shit on her so much on forums, e-mails, etc. Eventually, from what i recall, it got to the point where Maria was like, "Fuck these losers, i don't want to do this anymore, anyway".

I think even Bill posted someplace, "What'yall want, Ron Jeremey doing some hosting, instead?".

Code Red is such a shit show, but, at least a bit less than what it once was, I guess due to his health and DarkForce taking the reigns.

I will say, Bill's trolls have been part of the problem, though his reactions invited a lot of the shit. Over the years he did release a lot of obscure stuff, though not without difficulties... Such as, "OH! I can't get someone to translate the Scavollinni interview!". Then, some dude on Cinemageddon did it for free.... LOL, there is such a history with Code Red, but, i do wish Bill well, and hope he gets over a lot of his health issues.

I remember a Bill interview on Deadpit Radio, their show was how I became aware of Code Red. Deadpit really pushed Savage Streets, the only og Code Red DVD I bought. I'm happy they did because otherwise given what happened shortly after release I wouldn't have seen it for a long long time. I remember him saying that Boardinghouse prices were going to skyrocket so everyone had to buy it. No nutsack tadpoles or making decisions based on decades old his personal video store metrics.

I think Bill created the trolls. Other DVD/Blu producers have dealt with fan back lash like Synapse films taking forever to release Street Trash (largely due to Roy Frumkes dragging his feet completing a feature length docu on the movie) which forced Synapse to release a single disk edition about 1-2 years before the special edition, then the endless delays with their Suspiria release. Then Grindhouse Releasing dealt with that a lot because it takes them forever to release shit (with good reason, it was a 2 man operation before Sage Stallone passed and Bob's lucrative editing work in Hollywood keeps him busy). But you don't see Don May Jr. or Bob Murawski putting on a costume and creating unskippable intros where they insult their customers and the filmmakers and the actors and society and the universe as a whole.

I talked to that guy who did the subs for the Scavollinni interview (Scavollinni is the director of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain which for some reason Bill insists on releasing it with the far more generic and lesser known title of Nightmare... Yes, I know the movie was originally titled Nightmare and that is the North American title but everyone and their fucking mother knows it as Nightmares in A Damaged Brain which is the British title plus it's a much better title that will easily stand out in a Google search) and he confirmed Bill just didn't want to pay for the subs. Then Bill was like "Someone should do it for free!" Then a guy did it and I don't think he was credited on re-releases of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain.

Shocked the Deadpit guys dont have a thread here. CK has ripped off so many people and ran so many scams. And with Uncle Bill there is all the stuff with his ex wife and him banging Tiffany Shepis at some con.

Damn. I stopped listening or paying attention around 09 after they talked about all the movies they wanted to and did all the interviews they wanted to. The show became all about like convention logistics and occurrences. Did you know one time Steve Dash and Warrington Gillette once had a brief argument? I sure fuckin do. For the 3 or so years the show was good it was really good imo.

The Street Trash release. The first one. From what I recall, Don was waiting for the guy making the documentary to track down that main female character. So, that first release came out that had that, "Viper Liquor" sticker in it. Then... I am being lazy, going by memory, not going to research while typing this.... The 2nd DVD release had the documentary, but then the Blu-ray release had the documentary + an interview with that main female actress that finally got tracked down. I am pretty sure it was included as a separate interview, and not inserted into the documentary. I understand why that was done, people wanted Street Trash, documentary was being worked on, so, here you go, a release without the documentary.

Code Red had unskippable intros? I don't recall them, nor do I recall others mentioning them. Was that the earliest releases or something? The players I've used and use have always been able to skip unskippable crap, so i never noticed it. Also, I don't recall Bill shitting on everyone when he first started. I am unsure what started it, other than his reactions to certain shit. He didn't go all, "Banana Man" from the start, when he first started I recall it all very pleasant, but it didn't take long for The Code Red we all know and love today to take form!

The Scavollini interview. Also, my mind being fuzzy, but from what I recall that Nightmares in a Damaged Brain release was anticipated, and delayed, and led to a similar situation as Street Trash. Also, it does puzzle me why it was just called, "Nightmare" for his release. I think... Shit.. Was it Severin, Dark Sky, whatever label released that Australian horror film, "Nightmares" at the same time, and that led to lots of confusion. Back to that interview... I recall Bill saying it would cost some crazy shit like $10k to get the interview translated. Other forums were like, "Huh? how so?" and explained how it could no way cost that much, even though it was a 1 hour + interview. Bill brought up timing subtitles to the speech and timing it up was a big cost or some shit. Wanted it done for free, as you mentioned, then he said, "Fuck it, here, the Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, with the interview untranslated".

Myself, I knew of a guy who translated books from one language to another in his spare time. It didn't pay a whole lot, and was something he did in his spare time at work, since he worked front desk in a hotel. $10k for translating some guy speaking for over an hour, and creating subtitles seemed a bit steep to me.

Someone did eventually do the translation for free, and many a people who were a member at Cinemageddon downloaded it, and it got around that way soon after the DVD release. I did buy the Blu-ray, but never bothered to see if the interview on there now has subtitles. I guess he did get that translation for free!

I remember hearing that subs cost $10K for other releases too. I specifically remember that number being thrown around for Grindhouse's The Beyond DVD and that's why the rest of their DVD's didn't have subtitles. Discotek Media used a guy who frequented forums to do the translation and timing the subs for their release of Ebola Syndrome presumably to cut costs. Nice guy from my limited interactions. The subs for Ebola Syndrome keep changing from release to release and the Vinegar Syndrome version has some very different lines when compared to Discotek or the old VCD release.

People told Bill he could save some money if he timed the subs and just took the lines that needed to be translated but he wasn't having it.

Nightmares in a Damaged Brain was a very, very long awaited release. Another company by the name of Lucky 13 that put out 2-3 movies one of which being Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh and another one was Slaughterhouse. The company went all out on the extras and just stopped all at once soon after starting. These guys held the rights to Nightmares in a Damaged Brain and from what I understand refused to sub-license to anyone else either out of spite or they demanded a fortune. So, we had to wait several years for them to finally lose the rights to it and then Code Red comes along and then takes several more years to get the DVD going.

Updated the OP thread a little with links to the Dark Force Blu-Ray.com thread and a gif.

Latest livestream was so bizarre I had to update the thread. DeFalco appears to be streaming in a nursing home (?????):
darkforce 1.JPG

He humors an old woman with dementia at her wheel chair.

Two minutes in and guess who:

darkforce 2.JPG

Big time Shining vibe here. You know the scene.

shining-freaks.png

The black maid/helper seen in the video where DeFalco shows off Bill's rotting legs makes a return here.

4 minutes in: Bill claims the actor Bo Svenson (?) gave the order to give him a 2nd blanket (?????). Bill seems completely out of it. He's also still drinking soda, candy, and eating fast food despite the beetus.

5 minutes in: the old woman asks if DeFalco is strong and he flexes in the mirror. She also calls him Ray.

darkforce 3.JPG

The item on the chair is adult diapers.

I think this might count as elder abuse. A double whammy of it and I'm not trying to be funny. Bill has a companion dog named Bandit. DeFalco keeps the old woman in the room and humors her rambling.

9 minutes in and a woman appears in a hallway. This is clearly the asylum wing of a retirement home.

darkforce 4.JPG

12 minutes in the old woman keeps talking about bananas. I am not sure if she's cognizant of Bill's costume. Bill tries to talk but he's stammering and not making a lot of sense.

This is legit fucking sad. I don't like either man obviously but living in an asylum with your mind going and your legs rotting away is fucking rough.

15 minutes in: the old woman asks DeFalco to "cut a piece off" to give it to the dog, DeFalco does as she asks and with a pair of scissors snips off a piece of her coat and lets her give it to Bill. DeFalco remarks how hot is it in the room while the woman has a coat on.

18 minutes: DeFalco just lets the woman keep cutting off pieces of her coat. Throughout the video she keeps trying to find something to feed the dog.

Note: there is a constant hum from the black helper who is completely checked out. He gives no fucks about anyone in this room. The humming adds to the surreal nightmare tone of this video.

28 minutes in, the old woman just pours some sugar or sweetner onto Bill's carpet for the dog and Bill thinks it's fine.

darkforce 5.JPG

31 minutes: DeFalco sneaks away into the bathroom and announces that he's going to get Bill into another place. There are so many questions here: did the hospital Bill was at put him in there? Was it DeFalco? Was it Bill's brother? Was Bill's brother trying to keep him in Seattle because of his mind rot? DeFalco proceeds to talk turkey with Bill while they're alone.

32 minutes: DeFalco say's that he had Bill in a 4K per month luxury place and claims "They screwed it up!" Whatever that means? He say's the place Bill is currently living is temporary. Bill rants that his other friend needs a blanket and he's freezing? DeFalco prods the chat to ask questions.

33 minutes: DeFalco say's they're working on a 4K release of an unnamed title.

Does DeFalco have Bill's power of attorney? WTF is going on?

34 minutes: DeFalco shows Bill's legs without asking his permission.

Darkforce 6.JPG

Darkforce 7.JPG

35 minutes: Bill randomly brings up Fia Leone (Real name is Alfredo Leone) trying to sell his movies like Fulci's Voices from Beyond. He claims he wants 30 grand to sell the movie to Bill. I don't know if Bill means sell as in sell outright (which would be dirt cheap even for a later day Fulci film) or just license it. If it's the later then it demonstrates Bill's cognitive decline because he already put it out on Blu.

37 minutes: DeFalco say's they "consummated" a deal with an A level movie. He then plays congratulatory music as he does devil horns.

darkforce 8.JPG
(Yes, I know that's the sign for "I love you" but this is DeFalco so it is debatable if he fucked up or not)

DeFalco dances in front of Bill and zooms in on his roided arms and legs.

40 minutes: Defalco starts laughing at the old woman and remarks how Bill is living in an insane asylum. DeFalco plays some metal and rocks out to close it out.

Update. It's the May 9th stream. I may edit this when the latest stream is out

darkforce 1.PNG
darkforce 2.PNG

Firstly, Defalco shows off more gaudy and expensive furniture in his apartment:

darkforce armor.JPG

Bill is still in the insane asylum BTW.

4:30 in check out the latest "work of art" from Dark Force Entertainment DeFalco expects people to pay $40+ for:

darkforce slipcover.JPG

In keeping in line with previous "work of art" slip covers it also glows in the dark. Most of the stream is DeFalco watching the movie on his TV and goes over the extras. DeFalco promises to show the cover's glow in the dark qualities in the next stream.

Another live stream. Bill is still in the asylum.

Defalco does the Pink Panther theme (presumably to give Bill time to put the costume on) and upon entering the room is horrified at the amount of junk food there is.

bill8.JPG

2:30 Dave asks about his legs. Bill stammers "There's a cut on my left feet" it sounds like he had a stroke and can't move the right side of his body or something. He claims his leg is cold.

3:15 Defalco "It's not looking good folks." Then he looks at himself and flexes in the mirror. Bill apparently can't move much.

bill1.JPG
5:00 Defalco doesn't ask permission and gets a nice extreme close up on Bill's legs:

bill2.JPG
He then scolds Bill "This is what happens folks when you don't move and this is your diet." Where's the lie?

Dave keeps prodding him if he can stand up but Bill stammers "It got cut."

8:50 Defalco demands "Get up!" Bill responds "I can't or you'll see my dick." Bill complains about the bed being lumpy. Dave then compares his leg to Bill's:

bill3.JPG

Reminder: this stream is to sell Blu-ray's...

12:00 Bill stammers out that the Chuck Norris/Billy Drago movie (Delta Force 2) only sold him 500 copies. Not unless there's a way more obscure Chuck Norris movie with Billy Drago in it (which I am unaware of) it should be noted that Bill never released this movie on his label. Yes, a straight to video Chuck Norris movie is way above Bill's level. I present this as further evidence that his mind is going.

12:30 Defalco announces more Dark Force titles like: Hundra, Drive-In 17, and "more horror titles." He keeps chiding Bill to move around.

18:50 Dave calls Bill out "You have every excuse in the book." Bill stammers back "If I bleed all over what do I do?"

Throughout the whole video Defalco is just in pure disgust as Bill's life style and the condition of the room. Making comparisons to The Exorcist.

19:45

bill4.JPG

Bill pulls off a bandage on what he calls his dead arm. He really struggles with this task. Defalco continues to shame Bill for becoming like this.

26:00 shot of Bill without the mask on:

bill5.JPG
You can see it better in motion but christ almighty. This guy is not that old. I think he's in his late 50's/early 60's at most? And he's like an 80 year old man here. A male nurse/orderly hangs out and shoots the shit with Dave and I can't make out exactly what the nurse/orderly is saying.

Better shot of Bill here:

bill6.JPG
34:30 Bill screams "Show my dick you gay boy! Cut those gay boys dicks off!" The nurse asks if this is a gay stream. The nurse joins in with Dave in calling Bill the Blob. I don't believe this is the black helper we've seen before.

The stream ends on this image:

bill7.JPG

Edit: slight correction in that Billy Drago was in two Chuck Norris flicks with Delta Force 2 and Invasion USA. But, Chuck's son Mike directed and starred in a movie with Billy Drago called Death Ring which Bill did distribute. I'd still argue that this is an example of Bill's mind rotting away.
