I wonder if the economic inflation is starting to trickle down unto the YouTube cooksphere. All those garbage "pre-prepared ingredients" meals are incredibly costly than just buying it yourself, and I wouldn't be surprised if people are less inclined to watch fancy dining while on a budget. It makes all those YouTubers try to show how relatable they are with eating frozen pizza and hungry man.

Meal kits started to die before COVID, and even the "heat and meat meals for one" are diminishing rapidly. For a while even during 2020 was okay, it was kind of equivalent to fast food but they've changed ingredients as prices went up. Can't get steak, potatoes, and asparagus anymore.

On the business of wagyu beef, it's kind of the opposite of "tube beef" but still the same principle.

One is a mark of an uncultured boor where you're not saving money over the typical ground sirloin at your local grocer (I would not buy meat at any grocery store where there is no butcher or service meat counter), one is the mark of a douchebag who larps as having superior taste over the plebs he dances in front of a camera for.

No because Alvin is a YouTuber, not a Chef. An actual Chef would smack him. I particularly recall an episode of Chopped where Martha Stewart was a guest judge and immediately chopped a guest for cooking expensive truffles. She said he disrespected the expensive ingredients. I always wondered how good Wagyu was, whether it's that good or just the usual muh Japan high price export. In general I never understood using top grade meat for a hamburger (or any other highly seasoned dish). Yeah, you'd want quality meat, but anything more will just vanish in the vegetable, cheese and bread.

Wagyu is worth it but go for the Australian wagyu or American. If you don't want to bother with that, go to the butcher and ask for a ribeye cap or surprise steak. If you want to treat yourself, get a 30 day dry Aged steak.

It’s not worth the money. It has a distinctive flavor due to the extra fat, but it’s a lot more subtle than YouTubers would have you believe. It’s definitely not worth twice the price of a good quality “normal” steak.

When I was young I learned my favorite dish, Aglio E Olio and just started adding random stuff to it.

Red onions, cherry tomatos, cannced clams with some white wine is a go to for my household when we want a quick meal in 20 minutes.

Just about every beef wrapped with dough is extremely hard to fuck up. My issue is the culture of heaping the food with spices, to the point the question what is even the point of using beef when you won't taste any of it (even how much texture you get is debatable). Might as well use chicken or potatoes.
