Postmortem Blinded by the Light

  • Happy Easter!
Since a recent change to the styles the embedded posts display the username of the poster at the bottom of the embed instead of at top next to their pfp.

I think the way posts embed now needs a better visual separation from the self-written post body, because it's really hard to tell where what a person wrote ends and where the embed begins.

I suggest adding a background color to the embed part (that is currently only delineated by a very thin line) that is sufficiently different from the regular post background to make it immediately apparent what is going on.

The color of time stamps used to be noticeable different from that of the text, which served to visually separate the metadata from the content. This applies to both post lists on a user profile, and to proper posts, but I don't have an old post screencap at hand.

I think it would make reading threads more pleasant if this visual separation returned.

I'm not sure if it's intentional, but when logged out the site is in light theme again. Wasn't Dark supposed to be the new default?

Also that top header is hideous in light mode, but I'm not a light mode connoisseur so maybe those deviants like it.

Edit: I re-tested across a few browsers. Brave, Edge, and Firefox all start in light mode. However OperaGX starts out with dark mode. Weird.

I want my "download original image" option. .webp is nice and all for the webhost because of bandwidth, but it significantly contributes to bitrot and I've seen the conversion system fail multiple times already (generating weird purple/green striped images). I archive everything locally, and having the hashes destroyed through conversion ruins a part of reverse image lookup process that could verify an image's source. Fuck webp, give me JPGXL and APNG instead.

EDIT: One of the posts with an image fucked over through conversion.

Technical Grievances thread is locked so I'm posting it here. Right now, connecting to kiwifarms.net gives an occasional "this site does not support secure connections" error, the one you see when HTTPS doesn't work. If I refresh immediately it stays, but if I wait a minute to refresh it forwards to Kiwiflare on .st like normal.

Maybe one of the cycling reverse proxies has an expired certificate?

This is going to sound super picky but I use the red theme because it's easier to read and the red text on post bodies, such as names who reacted and links, is just a touch on the dark side and a little hard to read. A small nudge making the red text lighter would improve it a lot. Thank you.

Select-text replies to OPs / long posts that can't be fully quoted seem to work now.
Thank you, Cheese Man.

Still have offset for random.txt quote (vs. aligning it vertically with thread name), but not a big deal on desktop:

1,920 pixels apparently aren't enough to keep the hovering sticker popup from going to a 2nd row.

However, if I give it a rating, the popup then moves to 1 row on hover.

It goes back to 2 rows if I click and remove the rating.

That's due to hardened Firefox (e.g. Tor Browser, Librewolf) canvas fingerprinting protection. Webp conversion is done on client side (as I just checked by uploading true & honest PNG and checking the requests) and usaing <canvas> is the easiest way to do it, but that interferes with this protection as it spoofs it to random stripes nondiscriminately.

Upd: disabled JS and tried uploading PNG again and it got converted to webp server-side this time. Bummer.
