Tbh, the best kind of boss is the last one, as having someone who is nice and helps out does make a ton of difference when working. These people either have never worked properly in their lives, or just hated work that much, that they somehow saw a nice boss as being patronizing or something.

I am not an aquarium expert, but looking around, there is absolutely nothing wrong that I can see with having the filter hidden by plants. The only issue it could cause is if the plants get stuck in the filters, but there's ways around that. If anything, hiding the filters keeps the fish themselves from getting stuck in them instead.
