I have no smoking gun, so this will all be mostly theory, but this is what I believe transpired...
Pre-2018, Tumblr was one of the hottest places - if not the hottest place = to be, especially if you operated in any sort of creative sphere. We're talking writers, artists, comickers, graphic designers, the whole gamut. This meant Tumblr became a morningstar to follow for people seeking out fandoms for shows, books, and other media they were invested in very easily, especially when other options were fading.
Tumblr inherited a lot of users who found Livejournal was going the way of the dodo while also drawing users from multiple other platforms, so when it hit its stride (which I want to say was around 2011-2017) it was basically the number one spot to go to if you wanted people to see your work whether it was original content or fandom content. Fandom content isn't necessarily NSFW, but a great deal of it is much to its own detriment. (The reason this is relevant is because fandoms are one of the most efficient ways for women, in particular, to frogboil themselves into extreme fetishes. It also helps promote the concept that NSFW content and SFW content can, should and must coexist without any sort of barrier between them.)
This has been discussed from time to time in the Pooner Zoo over in the Stinkditch as an origin for a lot of female depravity (as well as a motivator for FTM transition), but to put it concisely: women egg each other on and get more and more escalative in terms of fetishes, especially as common fandom parlance is "don't yuck someone else's yum," "don't kinkshame" and "don't like, don't read." This is important to note because after the porn ban of 2018, users had grown accustomed to having all of their interests in one place. No longer was there a need to go to X website to get photoedits of celebrities from your favorite shows and Y website to read 350k word pornfic about your gay fixation du jour; it was all in one nice, tidy place. This erosion of the 'after dark' delineation (in which one would at least try to separate their inappropriate, NSFW interests and content from a milder SFW account) has done permanent damage to a lot of people's sense of boundaries and appropriate behavior. Sure, some people made attempts to have +18 accounts on the side, but the fact that hardcore porn could coexist alongside cooking recipes meant that there was never a time to just put the fucking porn down for a second, which I believe contributed to its normalization outside of sleazier spaces.

By making it so that everything is all in one place and then having peers that normalize and even encourage keeping everything in one place, we've now reached a point where any sense of shame or propriety has long since left the premises. Tumblr's retarded queer discourse, brought on by kinksters trying to make their fetishes a moral imperative, is a mental infection that's been carried onward as users voyage to other platforms, spreading and mutating further until we've gotten to the point where separating your filth from your main account is actually framed as denying one's true self, a grave indicator that one hasn't truly 'killed the cop in their heads.'
And now we're here at Bluesky, where this disease has reached its terminal stages, worsened by the walls of the echo chambers closing in. I find it ironic whenever republicans get banned off a mainstream social media they create their own platform and usually just has a bunch of boomer Trump supports to unhinged alt right that post extremely edgy content, but it’s usually centered around politics and non sexual. I was thinking the same thing, but you also added some stuff to what I was thinking. The only thing that I don't think you put was that I think a lot of this stuff got more extreme because it fucks with your brain more, like how corporations add sugar and corn syrup to everything. But I don't think it started out as extreme for that reason, just when people discovered they can get more attention with extreme stuff (which is also how artists like Shadman got famous.)
