It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I report that Bluesky has been the victim of the theft of its most precious natural resource: pronouns.

(Keep in mind, most of those posts are tongue-in-cheek. I hope)

The most popular pronoun labeller, pronouns.diy has been deleted by its creator. How the skeeters are avoiding friendly fire and not fatally misgendering each other while discussing anime is currently unknown. In a completely predictable turn of events, this was caused by the creator being subjected to a prolonged purity spiral and refusing to grovel before the mob, culminating with the unspeakable act of implying the creator of Blacksky (the melanated, invite-only cousin of Bluesky, based on the same protocol) is a hack.

In case anyone cares about the details:
  • Pronouns.diy was created by a French trans Bluesky user who goes by Julie [A] (alt account [A]) sometime in 2024. It quickly became very popular and became the de facto tool for deranged individuals to identify each other correctly. It worked by allowing the user to tag hixself with hix prefered pronouns and showing other people's pronouns next to their posts.

  • Despite its popularity, in true Bluesky fashion, the dev was constantly bombarded by absurd complaints and impossible requests, despite working for free in the pronoun mines. Nothing was ever good enough, and Juli.ee had been complaining about the challenges of making Bluesky users happy in a now-deleted journal [A]. Some small controversies involving the labeller:

    Stopped manually adding pronouns when the list reached 120 (!) different pronouns.

    The labels could potentially be used to hide users tagged with a particular pronoun, or all of them, even. To be fair here, there's nothing the dev could have done about it, but troons complained all the same. There are also allegations that Juli.ee was abusing the labeller to hide sus alt accounts of hix friends from people subscribed to the labeller, but I couldn't find solid proof.

    The labeller had an anime loli cover picture giving creepy vibes (OK, fair enough.)

  • All of this started to wear him down, and he decided to stop actively maintaining the labeller, but kept it active, campaigning for Bluesky to officially add the feature instead of relying on third parties. Juli.ee became increasingly upset at Bluesky's attitude toward the project and started to develop some awareness about the drama spiral that was forming around it.

  • For some reason, he had an ongoing beef with Rudy, the sacrosanct creator of Blacksky. The latest drama involved shoddy implementation of a protocol-breaking feature that would allow Blacksky users the option to post on Blacksky only, leaving regular non-melanated users without the wisdom coming from Rudy's digital Wakanda. As a reaction to that, Juli.ee posted: "I'm this close to just posting "rudy is a hack" and see what happens".

  • Blacksky predictably chimps out, with regular Bluesky following suit, with everyone calling him a racist for daring to imply the potential of perhaps thinking about criticizing Rudy. Juli.ee, already weary of Blusky's antics, deletes everything related to the labeller and throws a tantrum. [A]

  • A rat race emerges, with several new labellers created. Unclear victor at this point, but this seems to be in the lead despite criticism for being run by a cis man. Most people choose to pester Bluesky to natively add the feature to the site instead. Chaos ensues when hundreds of Bluesky users log on to the site to find their pronouns gone, and some even blame Trump or Bluesky's management in the confusion.

  • Rudy implements native pronoun support on his Black Sonichu version of Bluesky out of spite.
TL;DR: User gets accused of wrongthink and deletes everyone's pronouns in retaliation.

I want to congratulate the black community of Bluesky for wiping the floor with the Troon menace in every oppression Olympics battle on Bluesky in recent times. Hell, even Liz Fong Jones caught a stray bullet from Rudy in the kerfuffle:

Bro if right-wing Twitter decided to attempt an exodus, they’d almost certainly try to make a new platform (not that this has really ever been successfully done by the right) as opposed to trying to colonize a site whose management and userbase treats everyone to the right of Mao as a neo-Nazi. TomSka's an example, as despite complaining about Twitter, he hadn't touched his faggotized Bluesky account in months, therefore he realized he didn't have a voice.

A lot of them must have realized that in that safespace they cried and begged for to be away from the icky fascists they were no longer special little creatures anymore. Proving most of these freaks never wanted to be "safe" they want to be made victims so they can be more special, and that's why they run back to twitter. Because they value attention over "safety". It's a clown realizing that once you join the circus, you're just another clown in the tent.

Not to take up residence there, but I'm surprised there haven't been any coordinated raids, like 4chan did with Tumblr back in the day. Maybe it's too much hassle to make burner accounts.
