As someone who played Mass Effect 2 and 3 for the first time just earlier this year, the fans back then were right to want such a thing. 3 has so many issues not even taking the ending into account. The plot was terrible and it wasn't just the creators having a "different artistic vision" or anything like that. That game is a failure in so many ways.

Despite my fondness for ME3, the original ending was absolutely a trainwreck, and there are issues throughout the game as a whole (though they don't ruin it for me, and I continue to enjoy the trilogy tremendously). Thing is, you and I can have that argument and agree or disagree. Bob continues to smug about a game he's never even played, even though he was roasted for it a decade ago. It's amazing to me, the things he just won't let go of.

Most people understand "politics" in the context of the story as an immersive factor. If they do it right, most people won't immediately pick out what IRL the story has to do with, they just go with it, and maybe think about it later. This is far different from the current tendency of garbage writers to insert [The Critical Drinker]THE MESSAGE [/The Critical Drinker]as blatantly as possible into any and all media.
