He's right, 2023 was a pretty bad year for movies. Five years ago or so, I'd head out for a movie at least once a month, if not every couple of weeks, because there was almost always something I was interested in seeing. This past year, I saw only eleven new releases in theaters, not even one a month (though I did catch a couple more on streaming). It really was slim pickings when one of the highlights was my yearly rewatch of the Lord of the Rings trilogy at one of my local theaters.

That's not to say there weren't good movies released, but when there's not much jumping out at you that screams "must-see," then it's not a great year on the whole.

Also yes, Bob is so transparently seething at Drinker continuing to maintain a higher profile than he has. It obviously tears him up inside that someone without "real media training" can so effortlessly dunk on him, simply by being a much more likable person.

It's not film studies, he's talked about doing an actual 'media criticism' course at Salem State multiple times, insisting that because of that, he's more qualified to be a critic than most people around today. However, that course wasn't offered until 2004. If Bob did a four year degree, he would have graduated in 2003. So either he's lying, which is probable, or he failed so many classes he had to stay in college for an extra two years, which is also a likely scenario.
