When I went to school (here in Leafland), one of our social studies texbooks showed us an old-timey political cartoon that had two panels. The concept being, that tariffs kept the country prosperous because that kept people working in the country and not outsourcing to other countries (god forbid a Canadian farmer buy a John Deere Tractor after all!) It took a long time for me to figure out that all the "TRUMP WANTS NEW TAXES ON EVERYTHING!" ads they ran ad nauseum were actually referring to Tariffs.
