Being a level 1 fan of Superheroes (only watched the cartoons during childhood and didn't read comics until I learned how to pirate it) I was just so annoyed at how Marvel astroturfed Carol Danvers to being a top billed character in the comics. Growing up I only knew her as the chick who Rogue put into a coma after stealing her power.

And that story as told in the 90s X-Men cartoon feels ironic. During the period when Marvel was purposely burying the X-Men to fuck with Fox it felt like Carol was now stealing the spotlight from the X-Men females. I'd take Rogue, Jean Grey, Storm, Scarlet Witch, and Emma Frost any day of the week over Carol Danvers. All those X-Men ladies have better backstories and more creative superpowers. Even though it's not the best adaptation of the epic, in the literary sense of the word epic, manga the movie Akira is visually stunning and a great and gritty story about a no body who's suddenly given god like powers that he's not prepared for. The only people who are excited for a quirky reimagining of Akira from New Zealand director Takahati Whalawala are faggots like Bob who's only joy in life is seeing the great works of the past torn down and replaced with their own abominations. Its been beaten to death in this thread, Akira really is ill suited for a live action adaptation. I really dont think there is anyone in modern hollywood that I think would be able to bring anything to the table with it. Especially not the Tiki guy.
The more interesting parts of the movie are the creepy edgy bits which are either gonna get smoothed over or played up for laughs. The animation does a ton of the legwork so taking that out having overdone cg is not gonna stylistically elevate it.
