Yeah, some extreme alcoholics can't go cold turkey. For the vast majority however, you can't keep up your substance abuse to try and get rid of an addiction. And the only reason I could imagine trying to ween someone off alcohol instead of going cold turkey would be if a doctor or similar professional told me to. One of the only times I ever heard of a similar situation was I think Lemmy of Motorhead who was basically told if he went off drugs, it would kill him, but that was years of tolerance built up as a literal rock star.

I used to love reading MadGoblin's history of spider-man characters and comics and stuff. (even more than actually reading the comics themselves) One thing you picked up on is when a new character arose and was beloved - like Hobgoblin or Venom - it's that they challenged the hero in a new and interesting way while still being good stories and respecting what came before. This is certainly where I often clash with Star Wars lovers and haters: SW isn't "limited" or anything like that, it just requires good stories and the prequels weren't that good and the sequels were even worse.

It's very sad what happened to Star Wars. While I wasn't a super fan of the prequel trilogy, I did appreciate the fact that Lucas was trying to tell a story there. I don't know what Disney was trying to do with the sequels. Except for the Last Jedi, where

Johnson decided to take his hatred of the concept of established IPs out on the one big Star Wars project he was in charge of. I know some people like the Last Jedi, but I think even those people are aware it is intentionally subversive of the Star Wars IP. I can appreciate liking something that subverts the source material. I like Starship Troopers and The Shining after all, but those were done by people with talent.

The original trilogy (without even referencing the Expanded Universe) was good enough to build other stories off of. Seems very wasteful the way Disney just ran it into the ground.

as much as I hate to credit anyone making Kurtzman-trek, the scene where Data "gave" Lore all his precious memories of things like his Sherlock Holmes Pipe, his poker chips, and his cat Spot, which ironically would give Lore Data himself, was kinda clever. It tricked Lore into keeping parts of Data instead of deleting it all, and then Lore then unwittingly took into himself pieces of Data that fixed his own broken nature.

But you have to remember, Bob is the Foremost Expert in the Science of Blue Curtain Analysis. STD is awful it's not only bad Trek it's bad tv.

Picard's 1st 2 seasons go from pointless mediocrity to just bad. Season 3 is good better than the TNG films and honestly while Seasons 1 and 2 of TNG have some classic episodes I'd say overall Picard Season 3 is better than them. That's thanks to Terry Matalas who took over as showrunner Matalas worked on VOY and ENT as a young guy he knows Trek and loves it and it shows. He also wrote a decent story for the TNG characters and ignored all of Picard's Seasons 1 and 2 only keeping what he had and could use. Picard Season 3 feels less like Picard Season 3 and more like TNG Season 8.

Now for the other New Trek Shows the 2 animated shows also have a respect and love for classic Trek with Prodigy actually being a decent show and continuation of VOY. It also had cameos from the Xindi and Okana from season 2 of TNG. While Lower Decks is peppered with Classic Trek easter eggs and cameos.

As for Strange New Worlds it's decent the 1st season was better IMO than VOY's 1st season and quality wise on par with ENT I recommend any Trek fan to check it out season 1 is currently free on Youtube it's for the release of Season 2 this month on Paramount Plus. The show also looks like TOS if TOS had a cinematic budget in the 60's there are small touches to the sets and costumes that let you know these people watched TOS. The show is even using TNG style Klingon's in Season 2 vs Kurtzman Orcs. Also, the representation isn't in your face or all about it season 1 had an episode with a tranny actress it was obviously a tranny but it never mentioned or any kind of deal of it was just there. Also, Pike is never womansplained he's a Captain and good one and his crew respects him and his decisions.

Then there's STD which feels like the only Trek the creators of that show watched was the Kelvin movies. The show revolves around an awful main character I could only imagine the phone call Kurtzman would have gotten on day one from Gene if he saw the script were the main character knocks out her commanding officer over a command disagreement and committed an act of mutiny leading to war. Hell Strange New Worlds season 1 finale dealt with that very idea of Pike and Kirk along with the Enterprise crew having a different of opinions on a command decision and it was done civilized and ended with them respecting Pike's decision as he was the commanding officer. It feels like Kurtzman is now confined to STD and it's spin off the Section 31 film and this awful sounding Academy series.

STD used Diversity as a shield from criticism and it's honestly insulting to minorities and real diversity because there being used but you have fools in the media like Blobby who see "Diversity" and will do exactly what Kurtzman wanted and that defend the show because they don't want to piss off the Alphabet Community and also they think STD pisses off the "Right" People. If by "Right" people Blobby meant people with working brains vs his empty head he's right.

People give Berman crap for not being "Inclusive" enough during his tenure as head of Trek ignoring he ran Trek during his golden period simply because he didn't have queers in it. Then they praise TOS for it's Diversity while ignoring the fact that yes TOS was diverse Blobby and Gene wanted to show a future where all came together but he was also practical like Berman because while diverse TOS also focused on 3 white dudes. The amount of insubordination alone in STD - particularly unpunished/underpunished - is mind-boggling. Tell me your writers and production staff hate the military culture of Starfleet, without telling me your writers and production staff hate the military culture of Starfleet. So many inappropriate discussions about feelings in hallways. It's like those comic books where nearly the entire book is the characters sitting around in a cafe talking about their feelings. Instead of, you know, stopping the bad guys.

Romulan Legolas just seemed a big waste. Then they unceremoniously dump him/kill him off. And what happened to Picard's Romulan Housekeeper/Girlfriend? It's like they forgot all about her, not even some closure after Beverly comes back into Picard's life.

While Matalas did improve things for Picard S3, you have to remember Kurtzman was still involved behind-the-scenes. There were still fingerprints of Kurtzman and his cronies in the dialogue and some scenes. The fact that they kept Michelle Hurd's character Raffi and her stupid character arc, speaks volumes. At least they didn't keep Jirachi err I mean Jurati, although Jurati-borg could have been used in a way that would have made sense in the whole Borg showdown. They still don't have near as much respect for the characters as the original TNG writers did.

The secret problem of S1/2 of Picard - ok well maybe not that secret - was Patrick Stewart, of all people. As in, some of his cuckoo ideas went into the whole mess.

The Jap and Black chick never even got 1st names on film while Gene was alive.

Yeah while their names appeared in books Sulu's first name of Hikaru didn't appear on screen until Undiscovered Country and Gene died during production and had nothing to do with it. Matter of fact his last conversation with Nicholas Meyer was a fight where he threatened to call his lawyers. As for Uhura her 1st name didn't appear until the 2009 reboot film.

I agree there are still small prints of Kurtzman on shows like Picard Season 3 and even Strange New Worlds but it is a controlled version. In most of the Picard Season 3 interviews you can see Kurtzman isn't too happy with how successful the season was given he had little to do with it. They did a nice piece on recreating the Enterprise-D bridge and Kurtzman only real comment was you had to wait until season 3 for it or it wouldn't have been meaningful. Like Bullshit fans had waited 25 years since the D was destroyed in Generations before Picard even aired to see it again. I will give Patrick on the other hand a little credit he did embrace season 3 fully even though it basically threw out all his former mandates.

I tried to find the art work of these Guerilla Girls who are participating by having an exhibit in the Picasso stuff where they call out sexism but an image search only brings back them in gorilla masks and no art work. The only bits that I could find on their website and a few others are really shitty, Andy Warhol knock off pop art, feminist propaganda. Example:

Picasso seems to me a very empathetic man. Only someone who is attuned to human suffering could have created Gurenica. Look at the sensual curves and soft colors of the Marie-Thérèse paintings, and compare them with the angular forms, darker colors, and explosive emotions of the Dora Maar series. It sould tell you how well this man understands women's inner world. Feminists don't understand Piccaso; indeed feminists don't understand women.
