I'm working with a buddy on an analysis of the original star wars because people like Bob have convinced me that nobody can see the blindingly obvious about it any more.

Kenobi and Vader are the representatives of "The Force" in it. During their duel, Kenobi even warns the other, "strike me down, and I will become more powerful." What does that mean? We're told earlier by Vader himself: "The power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

So there, at the climax, when we the audience hears Kenobi's voice, it's not explicit but implied that it's not just the Force Luke is using, but Kenobi himself is also joining with his protege to strike down the Death Star, proving that yes, in the Force he became even more powerful than a giant battlestation able to blow up planets. The entire original movie is "set up-set up-foreshadowing-set up-PAYOFF."

There's none of this shit in the sequels. A single scene of Rey at the beginning making an offhand comment about "not feeling the other jedi" is not a set up or foreshadowing make. I personally am getting sick of a lot of these writers thinking that if they just toss off a line or two that's all they need. NO wonder AI writing could replace them in writing.

And no, Bob, just because you could in theory read all of Matter-Eater Lad's appearances in 40 minutes doesn't mean you'll actually understand any of it. There's an appearance in one comic over here, then he has a run in a few more in this unrelated book, then a miniseries, then a couple more scattershot appearances. Actually tracking down these copies would be a pain in the ass, and without a guide telling you where to go, you're shit outta luck. On top of that, you won't have the context required to understand who they are without also reading a bunch of other issues, so it's a lot more than "40 minutes." It's why nobody gets into comics anymore, because even the high-profile superheroes will have their story meander through dozens of different books, making it a pain in the ass to follow even one story thread.

Just look at SFDebris covering the history of the comic lead up to the original Infinity Saga. It's 5 parts now and each part is at least 40 minutes.

I’ve only seen female marines when it’s been built and painted by a dude (sometimes a dude in a dress). Half of the time it’s an unofficial mini that’s pornographic.
