I consider myself a 90s kid but there's a whole bunch of shit I never knew about that was going on at the time. Tupac and Biggie dying, the end of the cold war, the shit going on in Croatia and that area, Bush Snr being president, there's a ton of shit that I barely noticed because I was a kid and had no interest in it. But I had access to cable channels that played 80s cartoons and sitcoms, so I probably have about as much knowledge, if not more, of the media in the decade than Bob does because I doubt he was into sitcoms that weren't animated. My family moved in 86', new house, new city, new school, more rural, etc , so there's a big fence there in my psyche where major life events happened "before" or "after" that, to further confuse things. Guess what the first thing I got to do in my new school was? Watch the Challenger explode. (I guess I really was an 80's kid, but I "grew up" in the 90's for sure.)
Everything Bob tries to hold up as an expert on that's from "The Eighties" seems to go back no further than Captain N and the OG Super Mario Show... and those just barely scrape the very tail end, even accounting for a little bleed-through, and had the majority of their run in the 90's just as the traditional big-3 network model was starting to get serious competition from the then-nascent Fox network and the first cable "cartoon" channels like Nickelodeon.
It's just part of his insane need to be the smartest guy in the room. In media, nerds are smart and magically know everything. Bob is a nerd. That means he magically knows everything and the bullshit he pulls out of his ass must be true because he's a nerd.
