A friend of mine used to work as a corporate lawyer, big building downtown, first worked a cubicle open space farm, then got a controllership role and was on the fast track for a leader/executive position. His father owned a shop (not saying what kind of business though) and told him to come over and work for him. Around 2019 his father oficially retired and gave him full control of the business and the money was good enough that opening a second location made sense. The leases, loans, etc were signed in february 2020 and I don't need to say more.

We talked quite a bit at the time so I'll try to summarize his feelings as best as I can. Imagine waking up and every single day that passes you have a doomsday clock that you activated willingly. Every day is another day in debt that can't possibly get out because you cannot earn. You have piled all your cash reserves, the covid relief funds, ppp loans, etc and are slowly eating away at them. It's not only the business that you need to keep afloat. It's also your family, which you have just put at risk that you have to feed. Since you are now on lockdown, you need to wake up and look your father in the eye and resist the urge to say you're sorry 20 times per day. His father tried to reassure him he couldn't have known but you can't really say anything in this situation.
The second shop sits there unopened (it's seasonal business) and it's bleeding you dry - the god damn place crashed and burned before even taking off. The guilt was quite unbearable to him. If only he had waited 6 months to see if summer season 2020 was good just to pad the savings a ccount a little bit.
That, and the pure rage of every low IQ mongoloid suddenly becoming health experts "quadruple masking, infinite lockdowns, make businesses purchase 300K laser guided thermometers! It's common sense, people!" when they are living off the dole of the taxes YOU are paying from a business that is not even operating.
At some point he couldn't take it any more and really lashed at me. I don't blame him, I worked from home, so he saw me as a grifter that was getting paid while he was being bled dry.

In the end they were close to losing it all but thankfully the 3 day military operation started and the NPC's changed their programming. It's 2025, he obviously hasn't recovered but the is on track. We still talk every now and then but he no longer believes in expanding or making new businesses. "Just be glad for what you have"

They are action movie spy thrillers with Tom Cruise. If you like any of that and you like Tom Cruise in general for being the last old style Hollywood Actor and doing his own death defying stunts, you will like Mission Impossible. Some movies are better than others, but in general, its a very easy franchise to watch and get into. No deep lore or any bullshit. Start at movie 1, go to 8, the most recent film and last. I imagine Bob doesn't like it because its not very colorful, its not Marvel coded in any way whatsoever, its grounded in reality in terms of the bullshit factor, and he might hate Tom Cruise idk.
