Bon Appetit is a foodie youtube channel, with over 6 million subscribers owned by Conde Nest. It got even bigger during the lockdown, because it made a big push to up production rather than ramping down. If you watch cooking videos on YouTube then at some point a Bon Appetit video will have been dumped in your feed.
The editor Adam Rapoport resigned today after a picture of him in 'Brownface' from 2003 was circulated. Something he had previously apologised for in 2014. See below, I don't see it myself, but since he'd previously admitted in 2014 that it was brownface he wasn't able to deny it now.
Anyway, what makes it significant is that his team of 'editors' aren't even pretending that it was about the picture. They're flat out admitting that they took advantage of the Gerorge Floyd chaos to get rid of him, because he wouldn't let them do videos on Peurto Rican food, because he said US audiences were unfamiliar with the cooking techniques involved.
Anyway I think it's interesting, as an example of companies cleaning shop. It got some coverage from an actual brown person on The Hill.
What's most unctuous is the reaction of the white members of his team (ie the ones not covered in tattoos). Who are desperately trying to ingratiate themselves with the new regime.
Including Blonde Totty Molly baz, who of all the editors worked most with Rapport. Hilariously her colleagues are claiming he only worked with her because she was white.
