No, you don't understand. Boomers believe if something "worked" for them, then they legit do not compute why it wouldn't work for other people and fail to realize how changing times might inform why their advice is useless. They were lucky enough to find a job easy in times where their dollar went comparatively further for a variety of reasons, they don't actually understand the mechanics of this (post war boom, still lots of native industry left, immigration both legal and illegal wasn't as much of an issue, most areas very (if not completely) homogenous, etc.). From their perspective "just shake the manager's hand" works because of what it is on its face and not because they had none of the obstacles many from younger generations do. They do not see behind the curtain.

And instead of doing what a lot of old people are supposed to do and acknowledging changing times and that they no longer have their finger on the pulse of what young people these days are facing, they stubbornly believe they're always right.
