That seems to be a cross generational thing. I know loads of millennial 6 fig income types with no savings right now. The typical reason for it is high spending on vacations, pets, clothing, and food. Without derailing the thread, it's almost always women acting this way. I suspect they plan on using a husband (who they'll magically find in their late 30's once they're done having their fun) as their retirement plan.

Oh well, seems this goes back a long way. Aesop's fable of the ants and the grasshopper suggests that people have been like this since time immemorial. Tragically, we no longer get to watch these people starve/freeze in brutal winters.
I’m a millennial and it seems like how people save comes down to how they grew up. Most who grew up and had some social mobility tend to be the biggest savers. The ones who grew up affluent or easy tend to be the spendthrifts because they believe money will always be there and there will always be more of it next year.
This is my parents. They like to talk up their grandkids on social media. Meanwhile my mother in law is heavily involved with our kids on an almost daily basis. I don’t even bother to let my parents know about their goings on because they just don’t care. They don’t ask.
My guess is that the change of tune from "Fuck the boomers" to "Urm aktually boomers aren't bad" is because they can sense/know their older boomer parents aren't long for this world and will be likely entrusted with their full trust fund.
That is very generous to assume there is an inheritance for them to blow. Boomers, who got sizable inheritances from their parents who saved every cent they got because of the Great Depression, believe they should leave their kids nothing because fuck you, that’s why.

One of the biggest differences between the successful and absolutely fucked millennials was just whether or not your parents gave you a dime. Boomer parents loved the mantra that suffering builds character. Naturally, they should inflict as much suffering as possible on their kids. Middle and upper middle class boomers didn't bother helping their kids get set up in life. It's amazing how starting life with even $50k is life changing (~$3k/year after the kid is born into a trust). When they received their inheritance from their parents, boomers blew it on pointless home renovations and retirement cruises. Once again, the generational wealth was pissed away and the grandchildren were told to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Boomers have lived high on the wealth of a generation before and after them in violation of historic trust between generations.

I’ve mentioned this before but figure this would be a more active place to get more insight.

So, what’s the future of boomer retirement towns?

Yeah, those ones found around Texas, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina which have seen a huge influx of wealthy silent Gen/boomer retirees within the last 10-15 years.

The town infrastructure is built up around said old farts. Wineries, new and expanded hospital units, salons, banks, ranches on the outskirts, and country clubs.

What happens in the next 15-20 years when silent Gen is all gone, and boomers are nearly all gone or are sitting slack jawed in a nursing home?

Starter houses here in central Texas in non shit neighborhoods are nearly 400k. The cost of living continues to balloon. Millennials don’t have the money to live in such places, and zoomers sure as fuck don’t.

So what is the future of boom(er) towns in central Texas/Florida?

Ghost towns? Bought out by corporations? Given how Texas and Florida are/were the big places to escape to, but have been boomerified in terms of cost of living, Where is the next place that people would flock to?

I think they will die.

It's not necessarily because of the cost of the houses but because they're designed with the intention the people there do not need to work or have a social life for kids/younger adults. No one but boomers wants to live there. I mean those places are pretty much designed and planned for them.

Its interesting where I live. Its a rural county near a major metro but all the young families are millenials who got the fuck out of the bug hives. The boomers are the people who just always lived there and never left. Its an interesting dichotomy, and honestly the future I think. The big suburban sprawl is going to give way as the boomers die off. Younger generations are either gonna want to live in an apartment condo near to bars and urban conveniences, or else they are going to want a 3 bedroom, an acre and a neighbor they might see once or twice a year. The intermediate stage that of planned neighborhoods and cheek by jowel housing is going to fade away.

What is going to happen to things heavily marketed towards boomers?

The place that Big Lots had been in for like 20 years finally got bought out by a new store called "Ollie's" and its in the same vague category of discount retail but it's extremely strange, it's very over-done and performative. most discount places are obviously running a skeleton joint but ollie's lays it onto the customers, it has tons of wall posters and wall hangers and jingles playing on the radio with the titular Ollie and they're trying to sell you a really worthless loyalty program tied to a physical card. And a Visa. All of the signs are hand written but they're using the same QR barcodes Ross/Marshalls uses for stock keeping pasted on every item, and 2/3rds of the things in there are totally being sold above MSRP but the rest are dirt fucking cheap. a third of the store is dedicated to books and as-seen-on-tv knick knacks. It's so laser focused on squeezing the remnants of a baby boomer's social security check out of them that the whole place is beating you over the head with the fact that you're being manipulated in a retail environment.

Once the boomers really die off they're gonna have to do a 180

There are quite a few suburbs that have fallen apart in the last decade or two. A notorious example is Ferguson, Missouri where Gentle Giant Michael Brown got shot-lynched by a yt cop. I think many of them will follow the same path: decay, then collapse, and then renaturalization. Large swaths of planned community townhomes and McMansions will just crumble apart. These houses are shittily built so it won’t take long for them to fall apart.
What is going to happen to things heavily marketed towards boomers?
The concept of malls, especially those outside malls, will just shrink and many will go away like they have been the last couple decades. Real estate developers will kvetch and they’ll probably get bailed out somehow. This country will look a lot different in 20 years. The deboomerification is going to be interesting to see play out. Generation X is generally not interested in shit boomers like so it’ll be a rapid transformation.

I thought about this thread when I was driving and behind some boomer who was doing 35 in a 50. And even at that speed this senile old faggot was repeatedly weaving off the road onto the shoulder. No way should this guy have been on the road.

You’ll get pulled over and given a speeding ticket by cops in my town if you dare to try to pass up a boomer

Ooooh boy, are you in for a surprise. We have a thread about Ollie's here, and several Kiwis such as myself have given our anecdotes about shopping there. There's a whole mystery about the store as to whether or not it's a money laundering front or a social experiment. I went to an Ollie's store a few weeks ago and saw an entire aisle of Black Panther action figures.

Yeeeppp. "Girl math" means just paying the minimum and ignoring debt.

I am convinced that by the end of decade he will be the next Steven Seagal but instead of larping as some bullshido master it is a delusional cowboy larp.

IIRC there was only supposed to be one season and it really shows.

My dad is so fucking useless he somehow managed to put on weight while on ozempic. Fucking boomers man:stress:
Nah, he'll larp as a Navy seal (he already does in Lioness lol)

All of those fucking wineries will go bankrupt

I also forgot to mention the future of the real estate mogels in such towns.

It seems that millennials/zoomers in real estate business selling ranches/McMansions/country club homes to boomers might be one of the few standouts of their generation who are making good money.

What happens when that money dries up when boomers croak?

They'll have to move on to other ventures.

Anything like that will always be a bubble. I think if you haven't planned for having to move on then they deserve to get fucked.

If that. 48% of women have missed a credit card payment versus 35% of men per the Fed. 60% of Klarna users are women.

There will always be real estate bubbles. To keep those bubbles inflated, they’d rather have those houses go unsold than lower the cost to make them affordable. If housing prices drop, so does property taxes. Most of these suburb governments survive on little other than property taxes. They won’t be able to maintain their inflated costs and there will be swaths of land that will just get written off and unincorporated. Hope those water or sewer lines hold up because good luck getting those fixed. It’d be better off to just shut off services to those areas and unincorporate.

I'm convinced all of clownworld was a creation to satisfy boomers. From big line go up to cheap third world slaves, DEI to cripple young people to prevent any one taking their positions, now falling for Indian scams at work and at home. Enshittification of everything to keep the lie going up, the displacement of jobs and everything else. They also have the hubris to think they will rule and live forever, which has led to the governments of clownworld being hilariously crippled and retarded at this point.

EDIT: This includes the lie that you need to be an eunuch to get women.

you already posted this yesterday
I was thinking of defending boomer drivers but then today I encountered one, some senile old faggot going 35 and sometimes even slower in a 50. And despite that this worthless croaker was swerving off the road onto the shoulder repeatedly. Why the fuck is a senile old fuck who can't even do the speed limit allowed to drive? Get these cocksucking fairy faggot geezers off the road.

let's get you inside, grandpa. it's time for your nap

It's disgusting how much of central TX, one of the most understatedly beautiful areas of the country, has been carved up for boomer developments. They'll say they're moving there to 'get out to the country and have some country atmosphere' but the vast majority of those developments are glorified spec house suburbs with bigger lots and manicured lawns while the Edwards Aquifer continues to get sucked dry, and of course they need all the strip mall developments along the I-35 corridor eating away whatever greenery is left. They're just suburbs with artificially inflated commutes (of course the boomers will get massive pickup trucks with shit mileage and complain about having to pay for so much gas while choosing to move to a place a 30-45 minute drive from anything worthwhile). I imagine the massive liminal sprawl (shit feels like something out of a David Lynch film) west and north of Houston and around DFW is going to become a real hellscape (much like the Detroit burbs) once the boomers die out.

Who am I kidding. It'll be repopulated with Indians.

The irony, Pajeets are only here because they are hunters specialized on boomers.
Edit: I wouldn't be too sure of pajeet presence continuing once boomers get removed from power. Even leftists are calling for TPD.
