Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
They were bad, but nowhere near as painful as The Secret Armory of General Knox only having ONE fucking fast travel point, in the middle of the map.

Some missions in that DLC ended up being 40 minutes of driving, using the intensely awful vehicle controls of the first game, and maybe 5 minutes of firefights. Having to go from one end of that map to start a mission, then go right back to the other end to actually do what you were supposed to be doing was the worst.
I never finished this DLC because of that.

Just play Borderlands 1&2 and you already know how Borderlands 4 will be.
It’s been interesting to watch Borderlands degenerate into gay wokeshit after Burch was brought in to write BL2. Wonderlands was the final straw for me. I don’t care if BL4 comes with a thirty minute foot massage from Sydney Sweeney, I ain’t buying it.

Add to that the EULA basically saying “if you install this game we have the right to harvest any and all data from your device including cookies, browsing history, accounts etc” and it’s a no from me.

It’s the perfect example of how companies play woke gay and progressive up front to conceal nightmarishly evil dystopian shit going on behind it all.

For me, the maps in BL3 were just too big with nothing in them except some scattered collectibles. Got old quick.

I'd argue the opposite. I think base game BL3 maps are great, and a lot better than base game BL2 maps. The expansiveness of maps like Devil's Razor lends itself to more sub-locations, and therefore more things to see and do. Sprinkling in the Crew Challenges was also a cool feature, gives you more of reason to look for hidden mini-bosses and explore the map in general. Maps in BL2 on the other hand, felt a bit too small and at times linear.

The planet navigation and overall variety of the maps also really added to the enjoyment. In BL2, since you were limited to Pandora in the base game, you were more or less exploring the same environments. The only ones that stood out to me were a handful of maps, like Opportunity, Eridium Blight, and Sawtooth Cauldron; the rest were mostly empty landscape with more or less the same hills, cliffs and rock formations.

With BL3, while you did have the same old maps on Pandora, you at least had the option to travel to other planets, and explore modern big cities (Promethea), sprawling swamps (Eden-6), Eridian landscapes (Nekrotafeyo) and a space station as a cherry on top (Skywell-27, a nice Pre-Sequel throwback. Athenas was also a nice throwback as well, to BL2's Dragon Keep).

So overall, the expansiveness, variety, and planet navigation are what put maps in base game BL3 above base game BL2 maps, imo.

It's too bad that some really cool maps like the drained seabed are stuck in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Never have I played a game where the writing and voice acting could be so bad that playing it on a handheld with the sound turned off didn't degrade the experience, other than Wonderlands.

Assuming that BL4 would be an "improved" gameplay of The Handsome Collection, which I bought for $10, I don't think Borderlands itself would be worth $80 for the price of admission IMHO. At least we have an idea of how much GTA 6 could potentially cost.

At the same time, people need to understand their own priorities. If you think Borderlands 4 would be worth $80 forthe BASE edition, more power to you. Just know that it's only an encouragement for Take Two to double down on the "value" of new games.

IMO Borderlands died with Handsome Jack... You cannot change my mind on this !

kinda liked pre sequel soely due to handsome jack and the playable jack character interaction... that alone carried the game for me. But BL 3 ? the writing is so abismal dogshit not even a superb gamplay hook hold my intrest to play it...

Timothy is a fan favorite for a similar reason, given just how not Borderlands he is in terms of backstory. He did the whole "I got student loans to pay" from the Saints Row reboot but it was actually funny since the contrast added to the absurdity instead of being something taken seriously in universe.

Honestly the best part of Borderlands 3 is the Handsome Jackpot DLC, as far as tolerable writing and enjoyable narrative goes. Some of the area designs are questionable (run down shacks and mailboxes sporadically littering a space casino? Really Gearbox? Couldn't have put in some unique texture or objects themed for your DLC), but the meat of the story isn't bad. I don't completely hate Digsby Vermouth as a character and Timothy is pure fan service. He's still a charismatic guy minus all of Jack's shittier traits and you kinda have to feel for the guy who was unfortunate enough to end up a body double for the biggest jackass in the BL franchise. He even gets the girl in the end and does a little Uwe Boll heel click into the sunset.

And then you go back to the main story and the Calypso twins and then you're reminded "ah, yes, that's right, the rest of this game is cringe".

Really the only game IMO worth $80 at this point is GTAVI. Even then, i need to see alot more of the game before i plop down for a new console or PC parts. I built my current PC back in 2020.

But a florida man simulator and online that will allow me and the boys to commit hate crimes alone is worth the $80. But definitely need to see how much content is offered.

Handsome Jackpot is the only BL3 DLC I own. I heard the other three were cringe and in the case of Love Guns & Tentacles literally gay.

im willing to drop 80 bucks on gta 6, hell 100 bucks, because it's gta 6. any other game asking for that price can go duck itself

I played the first game for a while. It was good.

But why would anyone want like 100 sequels of this shit?

I enjoyed the first game but loved the second game. Picked up the 3rd on release since i thought it would be as good as the first two. Boy was i wrong. The gunplay and loot were fine but the storyline was absolute dog shit.

The hype on this one will be out of control. And it’ll be the most hyped game until we get to Elder Scrolls 6 release. And i can see that game possibly getting way overhyped because of Skyrim.

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. I liked it mainly because it was compact, most of the maps had convenient travel points, dialogs and characters were less cringe then in 3 or the rest of the DLC's. The NPC's were mostly likeable, even the commie nigger in the trash heap, Timothy also had something of a character development, going from someone, who wants to get the hell out of dodge by any means nessecary, to someone, who is willing to sacrifice part of himself to save others. All the other dlc's were just tedious (Bounty of Blood especially) and were a massive wasted potential (The Bounty and the Krieg Fustercluck ex aequo). They have turned Gaige into a washed-up, self-loathing alkoholic, who claims that being a wanted fugitive fucked her up soo much that she couldn't turned her life around in any way (despite being a robotics prodigy and ex-vault hunter) other, then becoming a second-rate wedding planner. Amusingly, the only good and compelling part of that DLC is the side quest (and the subplot tied to it), about the father, who tried to regain his lost memories and at what cost. Krieg's DLC is equally pointless, because, in the end, it changes nothing (ultimately, "sane" Krieg decides to remain in the subconsciousness with Maya's figment and allows the Psycho Krieg to remain at the helm, instead of just moving on and taking back control) and adds nothing to Krieg's story and background, that the player didn't know at that point.

I have played every Borderlands game so far (minus the Tiny Tina Wonderland) and after 3, i have no intention of wasting my time on the 4th installment, because i know it won't get better then 3: they may add QoL and mechanical improvements (sliding, vaulting, relics that boost movement speed), but it will be just another looter-shooter, with annoying, unfunny characters, cringe dialogs, boring plot and tedious gameplay.

I won't even give Rockstar $10 if they haven't ditched that bullshit control scheme that never should have made it into GTA III, let alone still be here a quarter-century later. There is no reason to have to tap a fucking button to run when analog controls have been standard since 1999.

@Your Spiritual Liege

I would say all BL3 DLCs were good. The best one, for sure, was the Handsome Jackpot DLC, in terms of music, environments, enemies and storyline. Close second for me was Bounty of Blood, then followed by Fustercluck and Tentacles.

A lot of my favorite soundtracks come from Handsome Jackpot specifically, and the re-introduction of loaders and Hyperion locations were awesome additions. The Spendopticon reminded me a lot of Opportunity from BL2, and also the Hyperion Hub of Heroism from the Pre-Sequel. The designers really do a good job at taking the right amount of inspiration from their previous games, without making any carbon-copies.

Speaking of the Bounty DLC, it would be interesting to see Butcher Rose in the next Borderlands games. After you defeat her, she doesn't technically die and just disappears, meaning that it's very likely she'll come back later. In addition, the Ruiner was a really cool boss (despite it being very similar to the Warrior), and the locations were nice; the Japanese-Western aesthetic was especially eye-catching to me.

Fustercluck was a deeper dive into Krieg's character, which I found pretty fun overall. I really like the way Krieg is written; he basically just communicates normal, rational ideas through insanity-riddled metaphors. Fustercluck really reinforced this process with Sane Krieg producing the rational thoughts and Psycho Krieg communicating them in the most absurd way possible. On top of that, the exploration of Krieg's past was very interesting, and I especially liked the part where we explored the Hyperion laboratory, and looked into how Krieg became insane to begin with (Dr. Benedict should've been stronger, though).

Tentacles is last on the list, although I do consider it good. The Bounded were a cool faction, Mancubus was an awesome NPC (probably one of the best in the game) and I liked Gaige's reappearance, despite the fact I never played her in BL2 (only the original cast + Krieg).

All in all, the DLCs in BL3 were great, but just wished they were longer, like the BL2 DLCS were.

The DLC was great. Gaige my beloved. The lack of new characters because "nobody replays BL"? Randy is fucking delusional. Piss-hungry cunt. Why the man's career isn't over following all his controversies is beyond me.

Eh, it was okay. The way they handled Moxxie in BL3 kind of put me off her character. She was fun and enjoyable across BL1, and whilst running in place for BL2 was still pleasant. BL3 just had her irrationally mad about that ex-boyfriend and going through that map slowly was an exercise in patience thanks to her constant arguing.

Tentacles DLC was just gay, I guess. Recontextualised I might have liked it more, but it felt like it was obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. Kind of a summary on Borderlands in general, really.

Can't remember anything about the Bounty one, was that forgettable.

Fustercluck was pretty good, but it was spoiled by Maya's memory having to tell you that she really wanted you to worship the ground Ava the Megadouche walks on.

After trying out some of that PUBG nonsense and finding out that the next DLC was going to be some Ava detective story, I noped the fuck out. The game was already wearing thin by then.
