Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

This game looks badass, even better than the BL2 for damn sure. Honestly though, there are things I want to note as a long time fan and observer of the series.

1: Randy Pitchford is much more on hands with this Borderlands than the last one. Could be a good thing, could be a bane. Don't wanna elaborate. Late news, up to bias. I'm assuming the best, if he had anything to do with this really badass trailer. Hopefully it won't be a Far Cry 2-3 thing and more like MGS 2-3, not that they're similar at all.
2: Lilith and Brick look really weird. I didn't notice Tiny Tina looking that different, but she's probably pretty jarring too. Lillith doesn't have puffy cheeks, and now, somehow, she's almost dude like with that jawline. Brick looks more like a girl than her, and how he's a thin-ass motherfucker now I don't know... He looks like freaking Mordy. Was he just Mordy? Idk.
3: even bigger worlds means more travel distance. I'm like, fuck. The more mileage I have to walk, the faster I get tired of it. Why I stopped playing 2. And the FOGGGGG IS SO THICK. holy shit that's some thick fog. This game won't have shit Draw Distance, right? Bl2 has great shit to get around it, but maaaan. I've never seen fog in Borderlands before.
3: No guns, no gameplay, but all in- engine with SFM? Uh, does this mean anything? I got to see one gun! A spinigun eridian rifle? Wtf? That's balls. Eridian is balls. But okay. Show me an exploding, walking Tediore rifle when it reloads. Or something. Please.
4: The characters that were leaked beforehand are seemingly here, and they sounded boring in the leaked info, only the Reaper Edgelord one seemed cool, and knowing we stepped off some of the funnest characters to learn how to just massively break and turn into beasts, like Lillith, Salvador and Zer0 and all their fun shit and great, relistenable lines. Kreig is my baby, and I'm gonna miss him.

Overall though, seems pretty badass. New story, cool new worlds, and most importantly, not a fucking word from Claptrap, and confirmed no Burch. yes.

Wait... FAT MARCUS? WHY?

Looks promising but I'm gonna miss Handsome Jack.
HEY GUYS, HANDSOME JACK HERE. IM GONNA BITCH AT YOU, THE PROTAGONIST, IN EVERY SHOOTER AND LOOTER YOU PLAY FROM NOW ON, EH? HOWS THAT SOUND? ME, SAYING THE SAME CRACKY VOICED NARCISSISTIC CRAP IN A NEW INSTALLEMENT OF THE BORDERLANDS FRANCHISE!
He got old, not really fast, took about 5 years of constant replaying, but I'm happy to not be even picturing him in the next game. We got to play him, see his rise, be his fall. I'm done. With. Jack. I want some Borderlands 1 shit again. No more whining from a narcissistic, manipulative snake who would cry if you came up to him with a gun and he couldn't stop it, and still has the gall to act like he's stronger than you, or a fucking hero of a pile of shit that he's no better than.
Jack was a creation of Burch, just like Kreig. His two best characters, too. They die with his cuck lineage. Thank fuck. Great characters, glad to be done with Jack, at least.

130% sure it'll be Epic exclusive, no doubt.

And that's the reason why I'm not hyped. I'm going to get it after 1 year on steam with DLCs and discounts.

Confirmed non-Epic Store Exclusive, there was a PAX announcement where Randy himself said it. Not that he couldn't be lying.

Meh, i'm sure it'll take place on the same planet as the last few. Even though Borderlands2 ended with the discovery of like a million vaults or whatever we gotta keep hammering around on this one planet because boring.
It's on a new planet. If not partially, entirely. We haven't seen all of Pandora and that shitty Battleborn had a hint that it's on Prometheaa, and that Tannis wasn't who she seemed. Tannis seems to have become more logical and more of her BL1 self again... At least, she doesn't seem like she's gonna sperg out and she started eating again. So she's probably way more important than she was before. The trailer even has a moment with Hammerlock that seems ominous, maybe she's got a connection to Eridans now.

Well the fact he is such a despicable, cowardly cunt is what makes him so memorable. He's a character you love to hate.

But yeah, it's better they don't bring him back aside from mentions and maybe a small cameo. Overusing a good villain can turn into a bad thing (I'm looking at you Arkham games).

I must be a mutant, because there is nothing in this trailer that makes me excited. If anything, it's goddamn embarrassing. In fact, it's like a benchmark of embarrassment that counts up until the trailer is over. It's such a dry, boring ass trailer that looks like it could totally be done on the 360 or ps3, or fuck, it might as well be dlc for 2.

I thought I was going crazy, but then I went back and watched the borderlands 2 trailer.
There's character intros, there's interesting enemies and abilities being shown off, unique environments for the title, skill trees, etc.
The 3 reveal looks like a highschooler's trailer done in sfm and edited in sony vegas. I have no fucking clue why the majority of people are freaking out about it, but I'm gonna sit here and clutch my "they live" glasses and stare in utter disbelief.

Oh, and if you think just because Anthony "Fuck my wife, please" Burch isn't there that this game won't be full of identity politics, you clearly didn't see all the dangerhairs in the trailer... or this fucking thing... whatever it is.

It's gonna be weird with Ellie in the game after Jamie Marchi spazzed out and wanted a public lynching of a guy on Twitter.

I'm more excited for the rerelease of the first game than the announcement for the third one at this point. I guess I'm just hoping that 3 isn't as political, which... SHOULD be better now that Burch is gone?

Maybe this'll bring in a new batch of BL fans who aren't idiots obsessed with Handsome "dindu nuffin" Jack the way the Pre-Sequel and Tales did. Those fans pissed me off. Either way, I'm stuck playing it because I got my crew that I've played every other game with all ready to go.

Dude, I don't even think you liked the series at all to be this cynical of an actually decent, if not top tier in engine traier. This is SFM, but this is definitely ij engine graphics too. Sony Vegas, as much as it's hated, is still a preferred video editor for trailers like this. It's cheap, easy, and efficient. Trailer looks good. Not great, but its showing off the improved art style of UE4s engine. Personally, I'd be more worried about the generic PC's... Check the leaked character info. They are bare as fuck, and almost feel like another game.
And remember, Tony Burch inspired Nakeyjakey. That fag. Nobody is those two dweebs. Have some faith. Or don't, I actually dont have much faith, I just know Gearbox has one IP they don't lie to you about, this one.

Pray for 8 player Co-op and shit, cause I don't think the story or the lack of Burch or Jack will redeem the fact even if it was gender politics loaded, the last game had a good story, and new writers don't always add up to good stories, if ever in gaming. It just messes up the lore and makes characters seem way different than they were. Burch already made a generation of confused BL1 fans going on to BL2, just picture what happens now.

Which last game? If we're talking about 2 then I disagree because the story in 2 was really simple and contrived. I'm having trouble thinking of anyone I've talked to who played the FPS Borderlands games for the story. The gameplay and humour is what sells Borderlands so if the writers they get are funny, then it doesn't really matter what the story is. People who have been fans of the whole series starting with the first one should know by now that shit's liable to change arbitrarily depending on the writer and I can think of games with better stories that I'd rather that not happen with. The fandom has a tendency to flandarize and bastardize characters anyway so it doesn't really matter.

If you're talking about Tales, I agree that the story was good because it kind of had to be in a story-driven game. That being said, some players' story is gonna be ignored or retconned because of the whole choice system and they can't go with all the choices so even then, some people's stories aren't gonna coincide with whatever decisions they make in the third game.

There's not a single nigga in that trailer lmao

I guess they spent all their political correctness in The Pre Sequel
Hell they killed off the main black guy in a completely fucking stupid way in 2.

But between 1 and 2 Mordecai became a drunk Mexican for some reason so you can't say they're not diverse.

If I can tap into my inner Borderlands sperg, I could list off which "important" minority characters are still alive and might show up in the game

vs those that aren't.

The trailer clearly shows giant metropolises which aren't a thing on Pandora, and while time has certainly passed that would definitely feel incongruous with the cartoon Mad Max feel.

The game has to bring something new to the table and different worlds definitely feels like the easy answer that Gearbox couldn't ignore.
It's been hinted that part of this installment will take place in Promethea, a planet that's been said to suck more balls than Pandora. Also where Atlas came to be, which the TftB's character Rhys, now owns.-sperg over- for now...

That is not going to be an issue, you really think they're going to address every single character and story beat that was in Tales?

They'll just aknowledge the really important parts that happen no matter what the player chooses, which are:

  • 1. Scooter is dead.
  • 2. Hyperion and Jack are gone for good.
  • 3. Rhys revives Atlas and becomes its new CEO.
  • 4. Fiona becomes a vault hunter.

Gearbox finally officially revealed the newest Borderlands game not written by Anthony Burch. The reveal trailer itself looks like they took a bunch of untextured models and posed them in SFM, but I'll take what I can get.

Gearbox has already confirmed that the game won't be a Battle Royale, thank Christ. This might actually turn out half-alright.
Looks like they were done in ZBrush.

I was just saying that in response to someone saying to ME that the story in "the last game" was good. The comment was "new writers change up characters" and my counter-comment was "some character's gonna be changed up anyway because of the nature of Tales". Like I said, I don't really care what the story is regardless of the beats as long as it's funny and I have a nice Jakobs sniper.

I played BL2 for the first time last year. Looked the games, not crazy about them. That said, one billion guns don't impress me if the loot roll system is as shit as BL2. It'd take me about 3-5 levels to change up my guns cause 99% of the drops were worse than what I had. And that was with me using like 10 Golden keys a level up (I had 150 from all the still valid codes over the lifetime of the game from the start).

Borderlands 2 is what I meant. Yeah, the story was simple and contrived. Take this with a grain of salt; it's replayable as fuck and fits the gameplay. You won't really fret about it in most of your playtime of it. For me, it's like a really absurd comedy or something. It's what it's supposed to be, nothing more or less. You forget the story when you're done, and laugh at it because you forgot the joke the first-fithtieth time. It's not a groundbreaking piece in gaming. As a fan of Borderlands since forever ago, yeah, it's all about the gameplay and no matter what the story isn't gonna cover old ground, and is guaranteed to change things up. It's not a big deal compared to the amazing flow of combat, cool ass guns, and really stellar characters.

Yeah, as a fan story writer on the Gearbox Forums, the characters get pretty Flanderized. Krieg always comes off as a dumb Shakespeare quote riddled softie for Maya, Brick is always turned into Generic Quote Machine, and I remember stories about Roland always making him come off as if his change in persona wasnt a change made for the fact he never wanted to be a leader but was forced to under the situation; he comes off as if he was a heroic Knight thrust to glory with all the powers, like Tiny Tina's DLC warns about idolization of Roland as a leader figure. Ironic for sure.

I respect you. All I needed was ny Maggie and my Skullmasher, fuck every single one of the enemies.

While everyone waits for BL3, the current BL games are getting an update in a week or so (free for those that own them) that basically remasters them in different ways and backports nicer features from the later games to the earlier ones.

"Wait, no mention of the Hammerlock siblings, who both show up in the trailer? Psht, Some Borderlands sperg you are." - Agent Nahman Jayden, Borderlands sperg and hypocrite
