Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

I certainly like the look of the game but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed.

The two things TPS did better than 2 (Increased mobility thanks to jetpacks and more interesting talent trees) are not in the game. Also the writing seems to have somehow got even worse and guns sound really anemic. I want my gunfire to be loud for fuck's sake.
The attempts at humor are so hit and miss to me you can see this with Borderlands 2 and strangely enough it's accentuated with Battleborne.

This sleazy crap around the game and even little things sort of upset me. Pitchford is acting like such a little baby when people critique his game and these are grown ass adults crying like babies because people are saying something bad about their shady ass decisions. I saw some gameplay and something that was a nitpick is a gun that shoots other guns as loot and from a gameplay perspective it seems like they're just going to meme the "GAZILLION GUNS" thing. Why would I need a gun that shoots other guns that seems counter intuitive to the fact that you don't have unlimited backpack space.

Well, if 'sleeaze' could be distilled into human form, it would be Randy Pitchford. We're talking about a guy who literally embezzled money from a game he was contracted to make, to make another game. But part of that is Sega's fault, since they really fucked up with that contract and couldn't take any punitive action except to never, ever fucking work with Gearbox again.

It was never a gazillion guns. It was 'There are five gun models for each weapon type and an infinite number of random colors we can give them, no one will ever notice'. It'll still be like that. I guess if you wanted a Borderlands 2 Expansion you've got it here. I don't see anything new or innovative. Not even Pitchford being a little whiny bitch. Same boring shit.

Thing about Borderlands as the guns visually mean nothing it's about the numbers that are attached to them since this is a Diablo styled game onf "What loot will let me kill enemies faster"

Sad thing is you can add a prefix/ suffix system to any game, it's rather easy to code. It also doesn't need to be just for weapons, you can do it for randomly generated levels and monsters. It's like Gearbox is desperate for money again. They'll probably even send people codes and NDA's to play their game for free during the Alpha and closed Beta builds like last time too because they're too cheap.

It's why they're doing that cosmetics microtransactions thing. Won't take too long before they're doing that with rarity of guns and honestly It floors me how anyone can defend it. Just having it to where someone has to spend money on virtual dress up for characters they probably won't be seeing to much of is a bad idea.

I'm okay with it if it's a 3rd person game so you'll actually see your character and if it was a unique mesh and not just a retexture of an existing item. It takes more time to make all new meshes compared to a retexture.

It's honestly why in games like Paladins or overwatch you can get away with it even though I don't personally wanna pay money to dolly up a virtual character. Paladins has a third person mode and both games have tons of emotes and animations you can fully see your character. Borderlands 2's customization was superficial and unnecessary as the game is about its guns and your guns are what your characters are even when the characters themselves have unique special abilites the guns far outshine them.

I won't even hide it, I'm pretty much autistically in love with Borderlands ever since the first. Lately I've been really sucked into the Borderlands 2 Reborn mod, actually, which I'm coming to love far more than the vanilla game, and BL2 was my favorite of the three.

I'm looking super forward to this even if I will be waiting for it to actually come to Steam before I buy it. Saw the recording of the gameplay reveal stream and I mainly skipped around to the actual gameplay, it was fun. Also they really do pick good music for their trailers:

EDIT : May as well consider this an offshoot of Randy's lolcow thread now, especially since I just realized he had one there's nothing else about the actual game to talk about.

The controversy is overshadowing the game though I say this as someone who cares about the inner workings about the game like the people who make it rather than just it being a product I buy with money.

Im really curious as too what the borderlands team has been doing these 6 years? From the trailers and prerelease footage it looks like basicly no mechanics of substance has been added. Just a rework of talents and sliding, slaming. Have they really spent 6 years on GuNs WiTh LeGs.

I tried playing the first Borderlands and it bored the shit out of me. Fuck fetch quests. Fallout 3 and New Vegas handled that 10 million times better.

I liked the first and second for the same sort of superficial reason I wanted to get into Diablo which is the loot grind. Personally I kind of liked the idea of of being rewarded with better and cooler guns the more I progressed in the game and leveling up my character (Choose Roland and maybe Mordecai on nearly all my breakthroughs) but to me the first did kind of had boring fetch quests as it didn't feel like you were directly effecting what ever semblance of a plot was there just going places shooting dudes in the face for loot.

How's Metro Compared to borderlands? I think I'm skipping 3 until they bother to release a GOTY edition because it seems they're going to need to tweek it and actually finish the game post launch.

I played some of it earlier (I pre-purchased it on Steam long before the Epic bullshit which I'm an idiot for criticising apparently). It's very good but sorta slow and awfully quiet a lot of the time. Borderlands 3 isn't really comparable as that's more over the top and fast paced.

I would advise waiting until 2020 to buy both either way, because fuck Epic.

I'd buy it for consoles before PC TBH

There's only 5 sniper rifles in the game, with some mix-matched parting and randomized accessories and bonuses. With 6 weapon types, there's effectively 30 guns in the game with some give & take on rare drops and extra unique guns & parts.
