Wainwright and Hammerlocks relationship is honestly so well written. All of the logs you can find on Eden-6 are optional, but they add a lot of depth. Not to mention Typhon's log saying how he helped wainwright become a badass by recommending jakobs shotguns because of his bum eye. You don't gotta aim with a fucking shotgun!

Also Hammerlock taunted and took on a Siren (Troy) armed with nothing but a shotgun. Dude's a badass and not a mincing fairy stereotype which is probably why they hate him.

I pirated Borderlands 3 nearly a month ago and I still felt like I got cheated. Characters don't feel any different from the 2nd game, aside from multiple abilities. Story is absolutely abhorrent, constant asspulls and story arcs that go nowhere, and characters from previous games only having one or two quests, then never heard of again (Brick, Tina, Mordecai). Scaling is still stupid, but not as bad as the 2nd game. Radiation was underwhelming, and cryo got a complete overhaul, where it slows and after several procs it freezes rather than instantly freezing. After beating the game as FL4K, I had no motivation to play TVHM. I tried another playthrough with Amara, but I gave up after I made it to Sanctuary.

Can anyone who's played the Cthulu DLC tell me how pozzed it is with the whole marriage storyline? The gay shit in the base game between those two wasn't distracting, but I don't want to buy something that's just half-filled with dialogue about being gay or about how the straights are evil that I can't skip or ignore like the base game. I really liked the gameplay of BL3 but there's only so much I can take.

It's honestly written about the same as any straight marriage would be, as far as I remember. I was expecting some serious ~uwu precious gay babies~ but you could honestly replace Hammerlock and Wainright with any straight pair and it wouldn't feel too out of place, and they didn't really touch on the fact that they're gay beyond the obvious changing of 'husband and wife' and such - they let them be just a regular couple with all the flaws and doubts and little personality clashes that entails.

I had fun with it! Some of the bosses were actually a bit challenging (thank god), the general aesthetic of Xylourgos was great, and all in all the writing was better than the rushed mess of a main game, imo. Still sad about the wasted potential there

Welp, I hope you haven't had your fill of exceptional games journo bullshit, because borderlands 3's gay mixed race wedding still isn't woke enough for gamespot, partly because the author is a fucking idiot - Borderlands 3's Lovecraft DLC Dismisses Major Problems With The Author's Work (Archive)

The tldr is that gearbox fucked up simply by using Lovecraft as inspiration and not explicitly pausing the game to insert a wall of text explaining that racism = bad. Hammerlock leaves the rescuing of his boyfriend to you - you know, like every other npc in the series - and therefore gearbox is saying gay love isn't real or something. Also the writer is under the impression somehow that Wainwright is black, and as a result misses the entire fucking point that gearbox is already shoving their disapproval of lovecraft's ethics in your face literally the whole campaign.

I'm sick and fucking tired of "Lovecraft is racist" hottakes. A Lovecraft story can be set anywhere, with a protagonist of any race. The key feature of Lovecraft's work is the fear of the Other - which yes can have a racial element - but it is a universal human fear. Deep down there is a xenophobe in every one of us, and no amount of white man's burden liberal privilege purging can change that. What Lovecraft wrote and felt are not morally wrong by themselves, and if anything he had a healthy outlet.

We're at the point where you can't have honest feelings and deal with them positively; instead if you ever have a wrongthink or like something by someone who did, you are forever damned. And by the end of the purge there will be nobody left.

The DLC is surprisingly fine. There's nothing super woke or progressive about it because it's doing BL best - being weird and shit with different locations, guns to shoot and fun characters. I particularly liked the music in the DLC but it and the Handsome Jackpot DLC have been fine. It's almost like they're having fun with the characters and places instead of trying to be super serious and plot-heavy.

I like the game series in general, minus the pre sequel. That was dumpster fire. Well, minus the claptrap-jack dialogue.

I read Gearbox is actually only bringing in donutsteels in DLC 3. No returning characters.

In a game where the entire galaxy is at stake and they were supposed to gather every vault hunter, they’re even leaving the characters we were promised out of the second-to-last DLC.

Every narrative decision they’ve made with this game aside from the core villains’ backstory has been absolutely fucking stupid.

Advice: Don't pay attention to the main story. Its really fucking bad in the siren based parts. Side missions are great though!
