Genesis 4 -- Cain slays Abel and becomes a fugitive. He settles in the Land of Nod and builds a city and names it Enoch after his son. A fourth generation descendant of Cain slays a man for wounding him and laments to his wives that he is more cursed than Cain.

Genesis 5 -- The genealogy of Adam, including the story of Enoch's ascension.

Genesis 6 -- GOD sees the evil of mankind but finds good in Noah, so He tells Noah to build an ark.

Genesis 7 -- GOD floods the Earth.

The "brief sketch" to which you refer is in chapter 5 only, not in 4, 6 or 7.
