Jesus' Ascension, if to be literally believed, is his levitating into "the heavens in a cloud". Foreign objects hit the earth all of the time, the only difference is size. That wasn't the only time something large enough to cause extinction hit the planet. Take for instance Theia. If there was life on the planet at the time, it would have been wiped out due to the surface of the planet turing into magma.

In the past ten millennia, the earth has been hit 350 times by asteroids that were capable of doing a lot of damage, such as the one that hit Siberia in 1908.

The asteroid that hit the planet 65 years ago wasn't even the first time one would cause extinction either. There's the one in Argentina (that was approximately 3.3 million years ago). We also have the Barringer meteorite crater in Arizona which was created 50,000 years ago.

God has nothing to do with these hitting the planet, they're just random chance encounters.
