I’d suggest the complete lack of parental discipline is a bad thing in his case. I’m not blaming them entirely, they seem nice enough, and god knows they’re paying for any neglect a million times over now.
I’d also suggest that this was a modestly lower middle income family, working class, in the beginning of Bam’s notoriety, but their lifestyle changed dramatically in a couple years time, and Phil and April were right there for the ride.

I think April and Phil came at it like this, their son was a troublemaker/class clown with no real respect for authority. They figured he'd never be a celeb and when reality finally hit Bam would have to grow up. Either go back to school (FYI they made him get his GED) & get some decent normie career or be blue collar. They wanted to be positive parents and support their children's passions. 9 times out of 10 I'd argue that's decent parenting.

Could they have changed things by putting their foot down? I don't know. A great historical example comes to mind being Jim Morrison, his father was a Navy Rear Admiral and like most military dads was strict as hell. He never beat his children but he'd scream at them like a drill sergeant when they fucked up reducing them to tears. When the first Doors album came out Jim's father wrote to Jim that his music was garbage, which is hardly surprising what WW2 Vet would enjoy that hippie shit? This resulted in Jim cutting off all communications to his father and claiming his immediate family were all dead when press asked. Everyone knows the end of Morrison he OD'd in France at the age of 27, which is just ridiculously young for someone who had a decent upbringing and wild success.

Parents are essentially damned if you do & damned if you don't when it comes to childrearing. Give tough love and you're a monster, always support and you're an enabler. Personally I believe Bam would have likely died a decade ago had it not been for his parents. Once Bam got the rock star life though there really wasn't much they could do to stop Bam from partying, although I'd argue they should have cut off contact with Bam after dropping out of rehab continuously in the early 2010s. But I'll be the last to judge them because I'm certain they've had the nightmare Bam would go out like Morrison. The majority of parents would rather their children be shitbags than be in a body bag.

Bam screwed Bam. Any time I start to feel bad for this guy, I remember how truly loathsome one must be to use your best friend’s death as scapegoat for never growing up or assuming responsibility for your own actions.

Bam’s “fans” are his worst enemies though. If you check any of these Instagram posts made by he or his team, the comments are split between detractors and people who still believe the year is 2000 where Bam, like JNCOs, is relevant. If the dude weren’t also so addicted to the little dopamine ticks he gets from social media asspats for doing fuck all, he would probably have a better chance at recovery. The shaman bullshit is something he has done before and is a meager publicity stunt attempt.

I think he’s starting to realize that the public eye is most interested in the drama surrounding him. He has posted videos of himself trying to interface with the younger generation of skaters, and it’s heartbreaking how not only does his audience not give a single fuck, but neither do his young peers. I imagine when Bam waddles up to the skate park, the younger kids roll their eyes, sigh, nod and smile for his benefit while hoping the crusty old man leaves them alone soon.

what a unit this man has become. not to blog post but who was once a bit of role-model for the hard living/rocking/skating/closeted young man has now become a cautionary tale, just in time for a lot of us ourselves who were there at his heights to start growing up.

i do hope he's a wake up call to some of us plebs; no doubt both us watching from the balcony as well as random cunts he bumps into irl, who may not even know his rise and fall such as we do.

i realise cky evolved independently and all that cal but we can all agree the amalgamation was a real tipping point: god Tremaine must feel like a bit of a Dr Frankenstein sometimes.

I love watching behind-the-scenes bits where he, knoxville et al. have to egg on/bully/coax members of their gang into going through with w/e stunt especially really early stuff where you get longer examples of those sorts of interactions.

i mention cky so as i can say that it's not like margera is some skaterfag homunculus created by Tremaine, more just after all the shit Bam put Jeff through lately part of him must think on what a great percentage of Bam's life he effectively was one of his 'handlers' for want of a better term.

Most skaters who go through rough patches can usually make a comeback if they've got talent: just throw up some footage on YouTube or Instagram and people will watch it.

Only the ones who haven't thrown their talent away chasing pussy & a different kind of pipe. Meanwhile, the smart ones who weren't any good stopped hurting themselves & got real jobs.

There's one or two of his kind at every park or rink it seems like. Mostly they just lurk near the edges, often chainsmoking, but they never drop in. Otherwise they keep to themselves, and nobody pays much attention. But whenever a greasy wreck like Bam shows up trying to reclaim his glory days, juiced on gas-station stimulants & hyping themselves to anyone within earshot, everyone wishes they'd just go away; it's not just the kids.

The only thing that's kept Bam from having his face & board broken against each other (multiple times) is his notoriety & fame. But I always figured one day someone would forget or not care, though it looks like he might not make it that far outdoors anymore.

I won't PL too hard but from people I've known who've abused drink and drugs, suffering from seizures for any reason is basically the beginning of the end. It seems like Ryan Dunn dying was not just the worst thing to happen in his life but perhaps the ONLY bad thing to have happened to him to that point, his parents are like something from a tv sitcom in their affection and fawning over him his entire life particularly in youth and after that he was in a position to spoil himself, he was and remains totally sheltered from life's true harshness and as such developed zero tools to cope with it.

his parents have honestly been a blessing and a curse to him i would say. on one hand without them i really dont think he would have been able to get as big as he did. plus one of the reasons bam is even popular is those parts in jackass episodes where he fucks with his dad. his parents reactions to the dumb shit he did really made it into something different at least for the time. however i think they both are to blame for bam being the fuck up that he is today simply because they were too nice. they let him get away with too much too often and that combined with the sudden fame cause him to believe he was unstoppable and he could just do whatever. but times change and nobody gets to live that sort of life forever. now bams finding that out the hard way.
