Bam isn't giving timelines in his post but per her website she hasn't been in Glasgow since 2017. If she's actually the sister of Matt Lidwin of 616 then they've likely known each other for years.

That said, I'm curious as to where people are getting that they're siblings. They don't have the same last name (any number of reasons for that of course), but Matt's video and post a few pages back don't mention or even suggest a family relationship.



She appears to be a former PhD candidate who went off the deep end. Many such cases. That said, she doesn't quite fit the profile of the toothless methhead Bam picked up at a gas station as I had figured she was.

I believe the girls. I just don’t know if I believe the rumor that April and the dad let Bam run amok because Vito may have diddled him. I guess it’s plausible but could also be that his parents just didn’t give a crap. A lot of parents don’t.

This was a Woodward in a mall. It was crowded af, full of kids who don’t normally go to skateparks and was in general a terrible idea.

It was only popular because it was indoors, which is rad in Colorado because of snow but the skate turds at the better parks come out in the morning, shovel and have it mostly dry by afternoon. Sadly it definitely wasn’t the Woodward we think of when we hear the name. It was a shitty mall park. And they charged too much for sessions lol.

The lack of self preservation skateboarding requires seems to go along with a combination of unbalanced state of mind and arrogance.

And recklessness and general attraction to excess.

There are two big name sane ones (my reference points are older than Bam, etc.):

Tony Hawk (an obvious choice) and Rodney Mullen, who continues to be cool as fuck [If anyone doesn't know him, he's the OG of freestyle/basically invented streetskating. He invented the flat ground ollie and the kickflip and a lot more. He's magic to watch, going back to his teen days and to this day, at 56. Afaik, never came anywhere close to falling off the rails, just quiet and weird and persistent and brilliant. Special note for KF: he's also likely autistic, and perhaps also a savant (his mother is/was a savant, supposedly). He became hugely rich beyond skateboarding by designing some new kind of board truck, patented it, and sold it for millions. He's still continuously trying to create and perfect moves to this day.]

A couple of other biggies I can think of became crazy disasters -
Christian Hosoi (bankruptcy; evaded arrest on some minor charges, even pulling out of the first X games to avoid it, only to be arrested trying to board a plane while carrying a pound and a half of crystal meth; went to jail for 10 years, saw the light, and I think is some sort of pastor now), and
Gator Rogowski (brutal, horrible assault, rape and murder of a woman who was friends of his recent ex-girlfriend)

Besides, it doesnt make too much sense, especially considering Bam being so comfortable around him.

Turning pro at 14 didn't help, and even though the money was peanuts then, he was not equipped for it or for when skating money dried up, and even before he went total nightmare, the other guys around then (Hosoi, Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain) thought he was nutty and difficult. Daddy issues and who knows what else. He also weirdly got into some strict version of no-premarital-sex evangelical Christianity while with the girl whose friend he murdered (which didn't stop him from obsessing over, stalking and physically abusing her before they broke up). After that, seems all bets of normalcy were off - became a drunk, got weirdly competitive with/jealous of Tony Hawk, who was successfully navigating the industry change, and then went full murdering psychopath. What he did to that girl was horrific, and seemingly for no "reason," even in his own retelling (other than revenge vs his ex/muh bipolar, which is garbage - it was a sadistic control - he made her suffer for days - and arrogance, and I still think there was something weird with his enabling pastor.

I'll have to look at those guys you mention. I don't even know about the current crop of skaters (lol tbh I barely even know knew who Bam Margera was/is, and he went pro in the 90s!). The last time I went on a research jag to catch up with guys who were big way-back-when, I did come across this really young Japanese kid maybe starting to do some stuff in the freestyle space, so I might see where he goes and what's up in the skate space in general.

But I agree, lots of skaters are just fun or mellow...but any sport/activity/lifestyle that comprises primarily teenaged boys/20s young men, doesn't have formal structure in the way traditional sports do, and prizes doing your own thing and badassedness (and therefore attracts, among others, many who constitutionally don't mesh well with expectations and social "appropriateness"/ rebellious types) is probably going to have a larger than average proportion of fuckups. It's all a lot more corporate now, though, and everyone (in general, not just skating) is way more savvy about and into monetization (of everything) than they used to be - and there is now potential money in it, whereas in the 80s it was so much less organized - so maybe the proportion of crazy will lower now, idk. (Bam's trajectory aside, lol...at least he hasn't murdered anyone? )

I didn't realize until now that Phil was calling for Jess at the start of this skit. With Jess always being out of the camera in Jackass/Viva La Bam I assumed he was just working on CKY.

You're right I gotta stop being such a dick to Jess, being a distant spectator I only know the Bam Margera on camera and usually at his absolute worst. Only Jess and the closest members of the family know the real Brandon Margera. For all I know when Bam isn't in character he can be a good guy, he likely has (fleeting) moments of clarity where he realizes that his family wants what's best for him. It's when he starts drinking & tweaking the full BPD monster comes out.

I feel bad for April & Phil. I think to this day they still have control over handling the Bam Margera fortune if that weren't the case Bam would have blown through the fortune a decade ago with a harem of Baby Mamas all clawing for child support. You can argue that they're enablers but if Bam had his lawyers try to break the trust/corporation all hell would break loose. Real "Jarndyce v. Jarndyce" shit.
