Brave Browser General - I’m feeling Bullish on $BAT

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
he seems to be banned.
well, before that lol.

for whatever reason, over the last month or so, kick streams would intermittently stop on brave. may have been something to do with the way i had things set up, but firefox fixed my issue.

Brave browser is bad browser. They are literally run by an advertising company. They are a bit shady and have had a number of controversies in the past (check wikipedia). Their spyware level is also high according to spyware watchdog (https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave).

Tor browser is good browser. Use tor browser.
That is some of the most absurd FUD I’ve ever seen. Every browser defaults to some kind of search engine and every search engine by assumption is compromised.

The browser literally asks if you want to enable telemetry the first time you start it.

It’s still pretty shitty but you can’t expect any browser to be not shitty in some way nowadays. The web is fundamentally a broken privacy nightmare. The best you can do is control your power level and your own behavior. No, I’m not going to turn my internet into dial-up by using Tor Browser everywhere.

I've used it for 3 or 4 years now. Use to have bat on auto donate to Josh but I don't know if it ever paid out. Stopped worrying about it when Josh said the Brave guy told him he wasn't eligible or whatever.

It started crashing on youtube, and only youtube, this past Monday afternoon so idk maybe they will have an update soon.

3.5/5 Pretty all right

I will grant that it is good that brave browser integrates the Snowflake extension into the browser. That way, people can run a Snowflake proxy for tor users directly from Brave Browser, which is something that helps a lot.

It is not that slow anymore, although it will always be slower than using clearnet. Regardless, you get used to it.

Bigger problems are the number of sites that block tor and the number of sites that require javascript to function properly (since ideally you should be using tor on the highest security level, which disables javascript). Still, blocking javascript can make sites load a little faster.

Anyone who links to Spyware Watchdog without proper context for that site is a retard. Spyware Watchdog is ran by Stallmanists, they'll consider a basic ping to a server to compare version numbers as an equivalent of selling all your personal data for advertisers. Their "spyware level" rating means shit, the shit they describe below it is what matters and is actually informative. You just have to be very critical of it, because again, it's written by the most insufferable Linuxfags for the most insufferable Linuxfags.

I wish Eich would finally truly fork it from chromium. Still tags along too much with the rest of the chromiumverse for my taste, regardless of what Eich claims.
I wish they would get rid of the bloat. It is embarrassing that Brave is more than double the size of any of my other browsers. I don't use any of their lame addins.

has brave began running like slow and laggy as shit for anyone else lately? Osx btw. It's never been a problem before, but recently even the typing of the text can take moments to catch up. It's really going to be no option but firefox if this doesn't work out. Maybe I caught a Brave virus?

Currently I've partially switched to it for about half a year already, I think what it needs most improvement on is its search engine. I tried to use Brave's own search engine, but it just felt too inferior in use compared to Google's and Bing's, it was especially lacking on its image search function, where I felt that a majority of the images shown did not fully correspond to what I had searched for. I would later end up switching the search engine to Bing's search engine, which also has some flaws, but it's better to use for me.

That being said, its battery usage is really good. I ended up making the full switch from Chrome to Brave on my phone just because of the difference in battery usage alone when comparing the two.

Yeah, I agree with that. Brave has an issue with searching for older sites and for things that are location dependent, like local stores. Their image search has gotten a lot better since they rolled it out. It's far from perfect, but I get a lot more relevant results. These issues aren't enough to stop me from using their search as my daily driver.

If you are using their search, make sure to use their onion version on tor.

Remember, they are a U.S. company, including their search service, and the U.S. is not a privacy-friendly jurisdiction (see PRISM, etc.). DuckDuckGo is also a U.S. company, so you do not save yourself by switching from brave search to duckduckgo.

Still, blocking javascript can make sites load a little faster. The only thing I like about the Brave browser is that it automatically blocks ads. But other browsers can also do this using add-ons. They say that it has increased privacy, I have not checked. I read about private browsing on iphone, used https://moonlock.com/private-browsing-on-iphone for this. Right now I'm just on safari. For some reason I trust him the most. As a result, I am neutral towards him.
Everything leads to JS, unfortunately this is the current problem with this browser.
