One thing I remember about Muslim civilization was how worse it was compared to feudalism. Reading a book about the Crusades from Muslim Eyes, even the author had to admit that the Crusader lords treated Muslim peasants with more respect, allowing them to make good money so long as they didn't turn against the Christian ruling class.
That's right, the way the Muslims rule each other is so bad that feudalism is a fucking improvement compared to how they usually live. Put a Muslim country under the oppressive thumb of a medieval Christian ruler, and dollars to doughnuts, the average Muslim pleb will live better under the Christian ruler than his own kind.
Modern academia usually blankets the mind with stories of how good the Muslim rulers are to their subjects, how tolerant and scientific they were. Which is, of course, complete hogwash; most of their science was stolen from the Byzantines and the Persians, and the tolerance came with a price of the Dhimmis constantly being humiliated and forced to pay taxes, and they could be massacred anytime.
Shaun doesn't understand that, and so, when he sees the Israelis retaliating against the Muslims, all he sees are evil white colonialists killing nice and tolerant Muslims, so of course, the Israelis, despite bringing money and jobs to the region, are despised as invaders because they're white people colonizing and oppressing those oh-so-tolerant Muslims. Nevermind that the Muslims do it to each other, like when the Seljuks conquered a chunk of Muslim and Christian lands and took away power from the local Arab rulers, or how the Ottomans united most of the western part of the Muslim world under them-through violence.
