Breaking Bad General Thread

Not gonna lie, that's an awesome movie, and Breaking Bad may have paid homage to it in that scene.

The Mexican standoff is pretty much a classic that has been done a million times. The one in RD was really good, but so was the one in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Tarantino, as a giant cinema nerd, has done endless references to that film.

Just not a fan of breaking bad. Just my opinion

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however wrong it may be. I do need to check out TP, though.

Thanks for pointing that out. The scene I posted wasn't really a Mexican standoff like in Reservoir Dogs and The Good, the Bad and The Ugly so much as it was an intended execution but there is one in the fourth-to-last episode. Sergio Leone's films were a huge influence on BB.

Recently got a buddy of mine into watching Baking Bread. Shit's good.

That show does provide a good look into the seedy, sometimes nutty underworld of illicit bread making. It also sheds a light on just how far people will go to make a little dough. The film quality is too grainy though, unlike the 35mm glory of Breaking Bad.

See avatar. I can tell you with confidence that Rothstein/Nucky/Lansky/Luciano/Capone > Malcolm in the Middle's dad, and that's even without watching his show (though I will grant that BE's season 5 was crummy). And of course both shows are dwarfed by The Wire.

This is a cool thread, and I've noticed you keep spelling Breaking Bad correctly. Like in the title, for a start...

ftfy, and thanks! I won gold medal for spelling in high school at the district literary meet, and I've retained those mad skillz.

Breaking Bad
The Wire
Deadwood
Sopranos

Lost was still a better show. Don't be mad about it guys.

If BB has one feature that takes it from outstanding into the realm of the immortal, it's that it maintained consistency over its whole run, with the possible exception of a somewhat rocky first half of the fifth season.

While I can think of shows that had single seasons of higher quality (like Season 2 of the X-Files or the first season of Six Feet Under), they also had some downright bad seasons (like S4 for SFU).

Also Ozymandias may be the strongest single episode of any TV show ever aired.

And in the "gift that keeps on giving" department, Better Call Saul is finally the show that Bob Odenkirk has deserved for years.

It was ok.

O.K. as in Oh my god Kill me now because i'll never see another show that's better than this one? Could not agree more!

Trailer Park Boys is better.

Trailer Park Boys has a pretty good rating on IMDB. But it suffers from being Canadian, and as this chart below clearly shows, the US is #1:

No idea what this represents, but the US is practically twice as much as Canadia and isn't sovereign to the Queen of England. So sorry, Breaking Bad is still the best show ever.

Yes! The show consistently earned higher and higher ratings as it progressed, and never actually peaked. It went out on top, and left people begging for more, like a spiteful lover who pulls out right before the climax.

And thank you for bringing up Better Call Saul. It's a worthy successor. I wasn't sure what it was going to be like, but I am pleased with the direction it's heading and with the additional exploration of Vince Gilligan's creation.

I loved the use of symbolism in Breaking Bad. Especially with the whole aftermath of the Tuco Salamanca arc.

The show follows the rule of Chekov's gun, where nothing is just "there" in the show; everything is used, everything has a purpose for being there. From the color preferences of the different characters, to the way they dress, even the vehicles they use have a meaning. There are so many layers in the show, and each character is important. Breaking Bad is to TV what Watchmen was to comics.

Except Walt Jr. Kid was worthless.
